Arsenal Vs Leicester
Arsenal Vs Leicester
Friday 11th August
19:45 BST
Let's hope we start this season better than last year.
Seems like Ozil and Ramsey both trained today. Might be short of match fitness but having them on the bench will be nice.
Can see this team
---------------------Cech----------------------------
--------Monreal------Mertesacker---Holding-------
Bellerin--------Xhaka---Elneny---------TANK------
----Walcott----------------------Iwobi-------------
-----------------Lacazette----------------------------
Bit lacking in creativity tho?
Not really sure what to expect from Leicester. Their team is quite shit. We should beat them really. Starting the season with a good strong 1-0 win will be nice imo. 2-0 if i am being a bit greedy.

Re: Arsenal Vs Leicester
It's the first game of the season so random Iwobi pre season runs that actually end up goals might actually work for another week or so

First game of the season, and already Cup Final.
Can anyone guess what Wengers first excuse would be?

Re: Arsenal Vs Leicester
I expect us to be below par and Leicester to defend as well as they always seem to do against us. A dodgy 1-0 win would be good here.
Ozil will probably start (he has too, really), but I can see us being careful with Ramsey. They and Mertesacker both trained today, so they should be fine.
Leicester have a bunch of injuries as well. No Drinkwater, Iborra or Iheanacho, iirc. Plus this is a prime opportunity for a Mahrez heel turn.

The midfield will have to swarm them lol, if those defenders get isolated

You can't defend badly as this, there is no leader there at the moment in defense and it's killing us. Midfield are also killing us by giving the ball away all the time, they need to show more composure ffs

Re: Arsenal Vs Leicester
And that was just game one
Our attack was pretty good. Lots of nice interplay on the edge of Leicester's box and made enough to chances to win the game. Lacazette looked good. No complaints at all there.
The defending, on the other hand... is not a surprise, because what can you expect from a back three of Holding-Monreal-Kolasinac? One kid, one decent defender and a guy on his debut in a really anxious atmosphere was never going to go well. That's a back three that needs to a steadying hand - a Mert or Kos - but didn't get it. Plus Ox and Bellerin either side of it didn't provide great cover.
Monreal struggled to win a header all night, while Holding was done by Vardy several times. Holding is a talent, but his inexperience really shows when he's got someone running in behind him. Something to bare in mind as the season goes on.
Hopefully things will settle down when Koscielny and Mustafi come back.

yeah I don't think Holding is ready to be a starter in my opinion. Not only did Vardy give him the run around, his distribution was very poor. In fact Leicester players knew he was bad with the ball so they pressed other players around him and let him have the ball because they knew he wouldn't know what to do with it. I hope Mustaphi and Koscielny are played alongside him Next time so they can take the pressure off him when it comes to starting attacks and keeping the ball.

Re: Arsenal Vs Leicester
He's had better games on the ball, for sure. I put a lot of that down to nerves tonight. The whole team was trying to play too quickly and even the best passers in the team we're scattergun. Xhaka for example had an 82% pass success rate.
It's also worth pointing out that Holding had about 135 minutes of football before this game whereas Vardy had a whole pre-season. He's still some ways of full match fitness.
