£80m for Sanchez? I would sell him tbh.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The only scenario I'd even consider selling him to be a good thing is if we get Lemar and a really good CM before we let him go. If we can't get those we absolutely should not sell.
£80m is a lot but there's the issue of their not being another 30 goal forward out there who can come in and do what Alexis did. We'd be trying to be replace a guy who scores, creates and does special things with the ball that turn matches... while City get the benefit of having such a player on their team. Not a good scenario at all.

The only way I'd accept Alexis to City is if we sign Mbappe as his replacement.

Dont think kovacic will leave as long as he eventually gets modrics spot, which he will. He has endless potential
So apparently Leicester blocked the move for mahrez. He made a mistake staying with those hoof ball specialists

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Nah if we can't get Lemar then sign Mahrez asap as we did with Lacazette after failing with Mbappe.
We can still make one/two more signings after Mahrez but we need to sell some unneeded players: Gibbs, Giroud, Perez, Walcott, Debuchy, Jenkinson, Wilshere, Szczesny, Ospina, Chambers, Gabriel, Debuchy, Elneny should at least bring 60m for a CB/CM.

if we continue with 3421 a center back needed
none (bar Per who wont be regular) are suited for that central role for back 3

Agreed, van Dijk would be perfect tbh.
Lemar or Mahrez + van Dijk and we would be ready for the new season. I can take one more season of Ramsey if we do that

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
First time poster here. Came across this place while browsing for transfer rumors.
For me, CB should seriously be our last priority. We've 7 players who can play as CBs.
Also, wanted to know what fellow Gunners feel about Alves' reported move to PSG.
I see it as an opportunity to swoop on either Aurier/Meunier. We'll be surprisingly short at RB/RWB if a few sureshot transfers take place. We'll possibly left with a genuine player at that position, Belle and 4 pseudo-RB/RWBs.
Similarly at LB/LWB. If Gibbo is sold, again we'll be kinda short at that position. We could try and sneak in a young prospect such as Sessegnon or Chilwell.
Now, waiting for Wenger to say that Bramall is promoted to the first team.

Welcome to the forums, Tamam Shud is an interesting sig, from the Adelaide murder mystery?
Meunier would be a better option, considering Aurier and Bellerin will both want to be guaranteed starters.
As for LB, isn't Monreal and Kolasinac enough?

I'm talking about quality rather than quantity. We have 7 CB's but only one of them is world class or close to world class and even Koscielny himself has admitted that he will not be able to play a lot because of his injuries.
Sell Gabriel/Chambers, put van Dijk in the centre, Mustafi to his right, Koscielny to his left and we have a very formidable defence in our hands. As we stand we don't have the best options for our 3rd CB, Monreal is a makeshift CB, Holding is a youngster (and we should remember what happened with Chambers before we overhype him).
Welcome.

I don't usually post transfer rumours posted by the Mail, Mirror, Sun etc... but they all came out at once saying that "Arsenal confident latest £45m Lemar offer will be enough".
Let's hope they were briefed by Arsenal rather than steal each others "info".

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
In the last six weeks I've been writing transfer stories, I've learnt that the words "increasingly confident" mean absolutely nothing. It's literally filler that lets them rehash a previous story to fill in the quiet periods.
As an example, City have been "increasingly confident" of signing Alexis on three separate occasions in the past six weeks. Yet Arsenal haven't even received a bid.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I think what they mean with "increasingly confident" is that the club knows the player wants to join them which means they are confident of getting it done. We have not received any offer for Alexis but I have no doubt that Alexis has spoken with Pep, Bayern representatives and other clubs.
Alternatively as you said it can be complete bullshit. I just thought it interesting that they all came out with the same line and apparently all three of these journalists are with Arsenal in Sydney.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The thing with that is, Arsenal would have been confident of a deal being done when they made the first offer. Nowadays no club makes a bid without first knowing if the player wants to join them. So I can't see what's changed since then to make Arsenal think their current offer is enough.
I'm not trying to put a downer on the move or anything, just that it's very easy to dress up a story as progress being made when in actuality it hasn't. The tabloids will jump on it because they're hyper-active when it comes to rumours.
I hope there's something to it, but we'll see if a better source comes out with something.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I too have been puzzled about the transfer rumour silence on potential right-backs or wingbacks. I understand that if we persist in 3-4-2-1, Ox and Bellerin make for good competition with one another. But what if Ox finds himself really staking a place in central midfield at some point, and Bellerin gets injured?
And in a back-four scenario, Bellerin seems to be our only option. The departures of Debuchy and Jenkinson appear to be matters of time, don't they? (Personally I am not quite as down on either of those players as some are, but it also appears Wenger doesn't see a future for them, either.) I really am surprised that even junk outlets aren't publishing more RB stories.
For LB/LWB, I don't think it's dire. Gibbs will likely go, but tbh it wouldn't shock me if he stayed on due to lack of clubs willing to meet his wages. Still, between Kola/Monreal, Ox in a pinch, and potential cup appearances for Bramall, that defensive left side should be fine.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Maitland-Niles was being groomed as a right back last season and played there in some of the cup games. As a midfielder/winger, he should be fine at wing-back as well. Chambers could probably play there as well if need be.
As for normal right backs, again, Maitland-Niles and Chambers are options. Gabriel did a good job there last season as well.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a really mediocre CM and shouldn't be in contention for a place there if we really want to win big trophies next season.
He is great as a RWB though, sometimes even better than Bellerin. But we definitely have great options in both wing-back positions.

Yeah, my sig is from the Somerton mystery!
Feels weird to be welcomed by a fan from a rival club. Heck, I was expecting the mood here to be tad toxic with the usual fights between AKBs and WOBs. Maybe, I came in at a point where every fan has got some optimism regarding the direction the club is going.
Was browsing this sub-forum and came across the most sane argument between an AKB and WOB. Happy I joined this place.

Quite an interesting case, I doubt it'll ever be solved, it always struck me as a case which didn't want to be solved, too.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Had a long post written regarding the need for sidebacks but I got logged out.
Anyway, it's true that we need a LB/LWB only if Gibbs is sold. However, I'd try and sell him coz I believe he's holding a position which could be given to a youngster, who can potentially replace Nacho down the line.
Other than Belle, I don't any other player we've is a good RB. And our tactics require the RB to make extensive attacking runs, which none of the second choice are capable of making, IMO.
Ideally, we should targeting some like Sidibe, who is equally comfortable playing on either side.
Also, I'm not sure if Chambo will be OK with the Grosskreutz role, where he is everything - from the kit man to the ground steward. His major gripe is that he's not given chance at CM, which I believe he should coz we've changed our tactics now and his best performance for Arsenal came when he played CM.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We really should be doing more to offload some of our shitty players. It's crazy that Giroud and Perez are more likely to leave than Welbeck and Walcott.
Explains the difference in ambition between these players tbh. It's a World Cup year and Welbeck/Walcott are fine with being squad players.
