The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Higuain AND Jovetic?
Never gonna happen. I EXPECT Higuain to arrive now following tonight's events.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Michael Cox @Zonal_Marking
Stevan Jovetic, Fiorentina to Arsenal
There’s something refreshingly understated about Jovetic’s football – he’s not an elaborate stepover merchant or a player who depends upon raw pace. Instead, his football is controlled, efficient and mature beyond his years – and such a forward might be perfect for Arsene Wenger.
Able to play behind a main striker, as the central forward, or cutting inside from the left, Jovetic’s versatility would provide Wenger with another attacking option in an Arsenal side that depends on goals from variety of sources, rather than one outright central striker. With Chelsea seemingly also interested, Arsenal face competition – and with Jovetic almost sure to leave Fiorentina, Arsenal must pounce quickly.
.......................
Gonzalo Higuain
It seems unlikely Arsenal will sign both Jovetic and Higuain – so it seems a choice between the two. The Argentine is a less adaptable player, but more experienced at the highest level, and a consistent goalscorer.
With 106 goals in 118 La Liga appearances, the signing of Higuain would be a blow to Olivier Giroud’s hopes of commanding a regular place in the Arsenal starting XI next season – both players are basically number nines, and it’s difficult to see Arsene Wenger fielding a 4-4-2 as his first-choice formation.
Higuain would be a positive signing on an individual basis – but Wenger might prefer a more well-rounded, versatile attacker.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Apparently we've "almost officially" signed Barca Cadet Julio Pleguezuelo (defender, 16 years old). Another U21/18 signing.

Yea Julio is coming. Toral/Bellerin/Miquel will help him settle i guess. No idea why we decided to get a CB from La masia though lol.

Arsenal are close to signing Higuain in a £20m deal. Wenger has met the striker & his father in Paris. (Via @johncrossmirror )

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I don't completely buy into this talk that Higuain isn't a fit for our system. While Jovetic is an ideal due to the skills he has, I imagine Higuain playing in a similar way to van Persie during his last season with us.
It sounds like a strange comparison, but think about it. Although van Persie was pretty much the complete striker, he primarily played as a 9 for us in his final season. Quite often he'd take himself out of games and stay up front and central, and there were plenty of games where we said "other than his goal, he didn't contribute that much". Then you consider that the majority of van Persie's goals came from his movement creating excellent tap-in and one-on-one opportunities.
So would Higuain be anything different? Sure, van Persie's skill were much broader than a usual number 9, but contrary to what seems to be popular belief, Higuain is no donkey up front.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Did a quick 10 minute research thanks to ESPN Soccernet/Soccerway websites and worked this out:
Higuaín record in all competitions for Real Madrid: 254 apps (173 starts), 119 goals, 43 assists / 32 caps for Argentina, 20 goals.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Breakdown:
Gonzalo Higuaín (Real Madrid 2006-13)
06/07: 23 apps (17 starts), 2 goals, 3 assists
07/08: 30 apps, (8 starts), 8 goals, 3 assists
08/09: 42 apps (36 starts), 23 goals, 9 assists
09/10: 40 apps (35 starts), 29 goals, 6 assists
10/11: 25 apps (22 starts), 13 goals, 6 assists
11/12: 50 apps (28 starts), 26 goals, 9 assists
12/13: 44 apps (27 starts), 18 goals, 7 assists
Total: 254 apps (173 starts), 119 goals, 43 assists
----
Watched Spanish football for about 10 years straight now. Seen a lot of Higuain. Always thought he wasn't top top level for Real Madrid. He & Benzema are not Falcao/Cavani level. But what Higuain is, is a wonderful striker who is undervalued by Madrid.
His stats are even more impressive when you consider he was never loved by Madrid and often played second fiddle to Benzema.

Well said. Arsenal needs somebody who can finish. Somebody who can get the ball in the box and put it in the net. Higuain fits that bill perfectly. Arsenal has plenty of other players to do the fancy stuff.
