His Athletic side finished 7th in La Liga which is essentially 13th in the EPL, 1st in Serie A and legendary in Bundesliga. They were, um, yeah, they were good throughout the season but it's Athletic so their player talent pool is limited due to their policy (which I still don't like but whatever). To me, he is a boring choice. He won't bring any real difference in how Barcelona play since I doubt he'll have much of a choice there but he is better equipped tactically speaking than Lucho so there is that plus.

Futbol, if you have something to say, say it. Don't play you hiding in the shadows, up voting men.
Also, never said he was "tactically incapable". Just said Valverde is tactically better equipped. I liked Lucho to be honest, think he did what he needed to do to get his side to win games (which Barcelona did. Quite a lot of games too.).

Barca needs to not only win, but also to do it in style. Lucho made us win a couple trophies but apart from 14/15 season, we've played like crap and I even started to miss many games which never happened before.

That face couldn't motivate me to get out of my bed to penetrate Amber Heard and Priyanka Chopra in a free birthday present threesome. How is he going to motivate Barca to penetrate other teams? To be a successful coach you need to be stylish and charismatic.

Yeah, that whole "win with style" usually gets thrown out the window when you watch your team go through a couple barren seasons. Lucho's team may not have been stylish or ground breaking but he won. A lot. Even this season where one heard stuff like "worst Barcelona in ten years" or "terrible Barcelona" still managed to reach 90 points with +80 GD, a UCL QF exit from a very good opponent and, in accordance to the Firenze School of Trophy winning, just a trophy short of a treble (Super Cup, CDR).
I know Barca fans don't like Lucho all that much and as part of another fan base of ridiculousness, I understand, truly, but for 3 years, he has kept Barcelona winning. You can talk about style when you're winning. If you wanna know a proper fall from grace when it comes to that argument, see Utd fans. That whole "the United way" has essentially come to a halt.

You need to do more than "just winning" when you have players like Neymar, Messi, Suarez, Busquets, Iniesta etc. That's all I have to say.
I don't claim Lucho was a bad coach, I respect him, but with such a squad style needs to go along with winning,
long balls or individual brilliance is nothing to be proud of when you're Barca or RM, obviously some games require dirty measures but there are limits.
His first season was brilliant not only because of actually winning all most important trophies but the way we played, we actually dominated champions from every leauge and the players knew what they needed to do when they go out on the pitch.

I wonder how Lucho will do elsewhere, aka another big club. People like to take digs at Pep for relying on individual brilliance, but Lucho relied on those individual moments of magic much more than Pep ever did.

All I ask of Valverde is that he makes Barca fun to watch again, irrespective of the winning. It's frankly disgraceful that a team that has MSN was so boring at times, although I'll admit he got better in the last quarter of the season.

(Not) Shocking how little people know of Txingurri here given no one watches Athletic in this forum so why in the world does it have to be posed with ignorance or just ruling him out cause he hasn't won a league or CL title.

I think it's a pretty decent appointment. Like BC said, I just hope he makes Barcelona play good football again and put emphasis on their midfield. Sure, MSN are amazing but barcelona played some terrible football because of the mediocre midfielders they had behind MSN.
I do wonder if he will persist with 4-2-3-1 which is anti barca or will he change it to 4-3-3.

4-2-3-1 is impossible.
4-2-3-1 would mean Messi as #10 and to make it work with Messi as a #10 you would need a double pivot consisting of Vieira and Makelele.
