I haven't watched NJPW at all, but from what i read on reddit and that Okada is having a prime Ric Flair standard of a run atm in terms of consistently putting on amazing championship matches again and again with different opponents.

So i'm liable to say he probably deserves it.

Yeah the list is based more on kayfabe accomplishments I believe.

Okada has probably had the best championship run of all time.

I watched the entire G1 Climax and was stunned at how good the tournament was. The unpredictability of it made it so great like Evil an upper midcarder beating Okada's year long unbeaten streak, Juice Robinson beating Kenny Omega, Zack Sabre making Tanahashi tap out etc.

WWE if they ever did a round robin tournament would have the winner win all the matches, the runner up too probably. Naito lost clean to Ishii and Fale while Omega lost clean to Juice Robsion and Michael Elgin. Okada their face of the company lost to Evil, Omega and drew with Suzuki.

And the match quality was insane. Okada vs Omega 3, Omega vs Naito, Omega vs Elgin, Naito vs Ibshui, Okada vs Elgin, Tanahashi vs Naito, Suzuki vs Okada would all be MOTY in WWE.
