The Matip Effect
From one of the worst defenses in all of Europe to the best This with Lovren as his partner. Makeshift LB in Milner. Dodgy keepers in Karius/Mignolet. And Henderson as the DM giving him protection.

Re: The Matip Effect
Klopp's system makes it work. These guys will all fail outside Pool similar to Kagawa, Sahin etc.
Defense is mostly about defending as a unit & not as individually.
Also Matip is a clown IMO for a top team & it's good Schalke lost him. If Pool wants to win they should buy Van Dijk & hope Klavan & Lovren perform well.
Or you depend on Van Dijk to make Matip look good.
Liverpool fans are the most delusional bunch I have seen - There was this ridiculous guy in this forum arguing Pool doesn't need a Winger & a CB - I said those are the 1st things they need & should dip into the Winter Market & that is what they will probably be doing. In general Pool fans tend to ride the bandwagon & overestimate players

Re: The Matip Effect
I wouldn't call Liverpool's newly found defensive ways to be down to one player but I would be very disingenuous to say he hasn't been an integral part of it. That being said, if I have to give any credit to said defensive solidity, it would be to Klopp. Footyfan maybe correct in what he wrote in that respect.
I can say, without fear or favour, that if it were Brendan still running things, those very same defenders would have been on McAgger's shit list.

Re: The Matip Effect
Liverpool also have the 2nd most possession in the PL (Just a bit behind City)
Who would have thought having more possession means opposition will have less shots? Uncanny.

Re: The Matip Effect
I don't disagree that Klopp is the real MVP. But we conceded 50 goals last season with Klopp and again started this season horribly defensively. But the second that Matip has stepped into the pitch it's all been rosy. I don't need glasses to tell me that Matip is the main reason why we the change in fortune happened.
He's the best defender in the league and one of the best in the world (probably the best).

What?
Arsenal have like 13 shots per game, Liverpool have around 18.

Oh sorry that pic RG posted above is for the defensive table only, meaning we have actually conceded the joint-most shot attempts amongst the top 6 teams

Re: The Matip Effect
I have seen so many Bayern force over the years tinkering with formations, Dante seeming like a Superhuman under Jupp & then fading.
Was Dante the reason for Bayern's defensive stability or Jupp's system in which even Robbery put huge defensive work?
Pool fans really have a ridiculous discussion. I have seen Matip for years & I mean god damn many years since he was a Schalke youth. He is an average defender IMO but not bad, probably better than Klavan & Lovren, nothing exceptional.
Let us give Klopp full credit for turning Pool into a strong defensive unit without major financial spending!

Liverpool's DEFENCE have created 37 chances this season, more than any teams ATTACK other than Man City, Man Utd & Everton [OPTA] #LFC
Found it on twitter but did not check if it is correct ! We play Peps football better than Peps own team

Re: The Matip Effect
Mostly due to Milner and Clyne, who are far away the top 2 offensive fullbacks in the league in terms of production and chance creation. I can't find the picture that was on MOTD a few weeks back but it's insane how much more offensive production they give than other fullbacks.
