And is Trump going to change the laws to allow violence on certain ethnic groups? No. Of course it's sad if some idiots are taking Trump's election as sign to go kick some ethnic ass, but then it will be law enforcement's job to lock up those people. This problem will return to pre-election levels within a year.Betty La Fea wrote:And what if they don't? What if they are emboldened and start killing/interning minorities. Its happened. What they said was still pretty blatant. I mean even if you expected the economy to recover&grow you'd still chose to do it at the cost of other groups of people which is what made this so problematic.rwo power wrote:Yeah. BTW, my granny said when I asked here whether she voted for the NSDAP "Well, they said everything would become better."
Moreover, you need to remember that people didn't have TV or Internet to get informed via various sources, so it was even more easy to tell them whatever they wanted to hear to get them into the bag.
With Trump I don't think he will make the american economy great again - but that's not exactly the problem I have with him.

Re: Donald Trump watch
So Jill Stein is leading an effort to ask for a vote recount in Wisconsin and plans to do the same with Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Trump naturally comes out and bashes this, especially when the Clinton camp joins the effort.
What baffles me is his claim that apparently 3 million people voted illegally. That does nothing to dispel or discourage this recount, it encourages it, which if something big is found, may even affect his standing as President-elect ( I personally don't think this will happen, but who knows?).....I would say this isn't smart, but again it's Trump so I'm really just confused.

Mery Streep went after Trump at the Golden Globes last night in her acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Well, as expected, Trump responded:
The man's skin is so thin I'm surprised we don't see the muscle and bone moving as he gestures.

People are dumb lol. We chose the guy as our PM who is responsible for killing of over 1000 innocent Muslims in one of the worst riots in India. We chose him because he said he would increase employment and growth rate and what not. And people fell for it, they gave him the whooping majority. Now he is taking all kinds of fecked up decisions like banking porn (which was taken back after protest, Indians ) banning beef because cow us suppose to be our mother and demonitisation which has led to loss of probably two million jobs.

I will say this....Streep is probably catching serious blowback for saying " If all of the foreigners and immigrants leave Hollywood, we would only be left with football and MMA and those are not art".
I consider this a bit of a misstep on her part as MMA is made up of a lot of immigrants. Some of its best stars are not from this country. I really think she should clarify and acknowledge that.

Yeah it sure was. I hate that a interpretation of something and an unfortunate way to express something is taking away from her important message.
Also calling Meryl Streep overrated should be a punishable offense. Especially when you consider his roles.
I also don't understand some of the people complaining about Hollywood elitists talking politics considering who they and the system elected.

It annoys me greatly tbh. Especially when you consider the irony of this sentiment when it's coming from Donald Trump. A guy that is probably the personification of what his voters hate of elitism.

Looking more and more like he's a puppet of Putin's.
His inability to admit the election was influenced in his favor, or at least attempted to by Russia is revealing. Any hope he might admit, do, or take to some sort of humbling action is gone. That said, I didn't expect that in the first place.
Russia interferes with our elections and he keeps claiming that we ought to be friends with them
Thought this guy was supposed to bring a strong USA. We look weaker right now than ever before on the international stage.

This is funny:
"Adorno believed that the greatest danger to American democracy lay in the mass-culture apparatus of film, radio, and television. Indeed, in his view, this apparatus operates in dictatorial fashion even when no dictatorship is in place: it enforces conformity, quiets dissent, mutes thought. Nazi Germany was merely the most extreme case of a late-capitalist condition in which people surrender real intellectual freedom in favor of a sham paradise of personal liberation and comfort. Watching wartime newsreels, Adorno concluded that the “culture industry,” as he and Horkheimer called it, was replicating fascist methods of mass hypnosis"
That sounds exactly like something right wingers say, and actually have some reasons to say it given that with the exception of radio, all those mediums are utterly dominated by a Leftwing perspective, and most of the people with backgrounds in manipulation (under the title 'social science') are on the left.
Those mediums did not help Trump either.
I'm speculating here but I don't think any candidate in history has ever been the subject of a hate campaign as intense and wide as the axis of entertainment and news media aimed at Donald Trump.
This guy is whaling about how Trump's success has been brought about by the "culture industry", I'm sorry, this is just retarded. It really is. It's not even that it isn't true, it's projection. The 'culture industry' tried to elect Hillary. This guy should cheer up, the kind of mass manipulation he's talking about failed.
The article finishes off with a subtle call for censorship under the banner of 'fake news' and claims that America's moral mantle has passed over to Germany because of that 'liberal democracy' 's restrictions on free speech. Germany also being a country where it isn't even legal to homeschool your children. A true bastion of freedom... NOT.
That was a shit attempt at Orwellian doublespeak.

Re: Donald Trump watch
I continue to be confounded by this underdog attitude that the right-wing seems to still have.
They keep complaining about the Left controlling the media yet this didn't seem to stop them from winning control in the UK and it sure as hell didn't stop them from winning control here in the US.
Who cares whether the Left has the media. It apparently counted for naught when it mattered so it's a non-factor now. Right-wingers continuing to whine about it are literally acting like the "snowflakes" they accuse the Left of being.
When you win.....you're no longer the underdog. The Right really needs to stop acting like one. It makes them look weaker than they also accuse the Left of being.

It's how populism work. They never quite adjust to not having the chip on their shoulders so they just keep doing the same shit. Been seeing it all my life in Denmark. The Danish populist nationalist party won the election last year but basically deferred the leadership to the usual party because they have built their entire identity on having a chip on their shoulders.

Re: Donald Trump watch
The left doesn't "have the media";
I know Colbert was joking when he said it, but it is true:
Reality has a liberal bias.
Just go onto any fact-checking site. Right-wing candidates lie way more than left-leaning candidates. And it's not because they're less nice. Clinton is a scheming power hungry maniac, just like Angela Merkel, but at the face of it, moderate and progressive policies seem to vibe with actual reality much more than old-school conservatism ore populist right-wing policy.
I'm actually sure people like the Clintons would lie as much as Trump if they didn't happen to play for the team that's more in tune with the actual facts of the day and age. I do believe they'd pick smarter lies, though.

Same thing in Turkey as well, and this was the root of Brexit, too. Trump is based on this as well.
Blind actionism combined with an easy scapegoat and lofty campaign promises get you elected if the fact-checkers are asleep at the wheel.
Erdogan got elected on the same platform Trump has: blame minorities for the economic troubles, then boost short-term economic growth at the expense of ruining the long-term competetiveness; Modi will do the same.
The root of the problem is all the same:
Right-wing populists will keep winning elections as long as the left-wing keeps forgetting about it's working-class roots. When the left wing is all about climate change, foreign policy, and LGBT rights (all of those are important, mind you) it's very easy to make the (wrong) claim they're forgetting about the "little guy", even though nobody loses more under right-wing (especially the conservative kind) regimes than the working poor.
Edit: Well, maybe the unemployed.

Re: Donald Trump watch
You are definitely wrong about that; but let's just say "no candidate in modern democracies" and you're probably right. He's also the most ridiculous, racist, homophobic, islamophobic, and chauvinistic candidate of a major party I've witnessed in my short life time.DuringTheWar wrote:I'm speculating here but I don't think any candidate in history has ever been the subject of a hate campaign as intense and wide as the axis of entertainment and news media aimed at Donald Trump.

No, he's still right. He's not talking about direct manipulation or brain washing to get Trump elected. He's talking about the celebrity culture the Western World has been cultivating. Trump got elected for what people want him to be, not what he is. That's basically impossible without celebrity culture.

Freedom of speech never covered, or was intended to cover, lying. Freedom of speech guarantees the right to voice your opinion, not to make up facts.
TBH I greatly agree with the prohibition of home schooling because children are minors, they should have the chance to decide themselves whether they want to separate themselves from society when they grow up; home schooling gives parents the opportunity to isolate their kids from society.
I know lots of honest and decent people homeschool, but for me, it just sounds like something the Aryan Brotherhood would do. Or Creationists. You know. Crazy people.
That was a shit attempt at Orwellian doublespeak.
I give it a score of 2/10
Even if I were to agree with you, which I don't, my focus on the article, the part I greatly enjoyed, was the notion that the Left f*cked up and forgot about the economic aspect. Not the policy part, but communicating it.
There is a huge disparity in division of income and wealth, and until the poorest parts of society receive a bigger piece of the pie, you will have unrest. And the American left has, bar Sanders, and a while back John Edwards, completely ignored that part of modern Liberalism.
Ironically it was Trump who figured out that this might be his ticket. And it's double-irony with extra sauce and a topping of sarcasm that all his policy changes will absolutely f*ck anyone over who has an income below 250k.
