They need to scrap the last few episodes of season 2 somehow.

Nah, first half of season 1 was great. 3/4 of the season was great. Just the ending was so rushed that it didn't do the arc justice

Had me invested in the mystery from the start. What could have really happened that led Hannah to her decision. In between, it felt really dragged out most of the times. And I thought wow, nah, she really is just a drama queen, and *bleep* Clay being disillusioned almost all of the time really got on my nerves. And why did they use him staring at people or things for 10 episodes as a transition to their cuts Thought he was such a pussy at times. And that is mainly due to the writing trying to drag this thing out. Worst decision would be if they make a season 2
At the end though they wrapped it up nicely. I don't have big problems with the ending. Of course everything really started to make sense once you knew what happened at those two parties, and you could feel for Hannah. I agree with someone earlier pointing out though that she was very hypocritical at times and didn't take responsibility a lot of times. Like the classic confused girl trope of saying one thing, and expecting someone else to do the opposite.
The suicide depiction was heavy. Expertly done by the actors and filmmakers. Hannah's mum was one of my main irritants throughout, but she was incredible in that scene.
All in all, it's not such a great series, as ratings might suggest. It was very corny at times. I can't deal with high school dramas anymore. I've made a decision to watch less high school movies as well not so long ago, because they just piss me off. But I get why it is popular. Certainly after one of the latter episodes it got me thinking that I was an ass too sometimes in high school. And I even said some terrible things as well sometimes, even if I did apologise and own up to it afterwards. It portrays high school drama accurately in many ways, and how high school students will always act like things in that space and time is do-or-die even when it really isn't, I know I did.
- Spoiler:
- I think Clay's character was entirely on point. That's one of the best portrayals of a wallflower I have seen I think. You have films like Perks of Being a Wallflower (which funnily even have the term 'wallflower' in it as if to shout the point), a film that is so overrated and you see the main lead int that doing things so out of character like for example beating up guys. Here you have Clay who always walks away from situations and tries to be a spectator and not the main guy.
It was just spot on
- Spoiler:
- I didnt have any problem with this series tbh. Like Freeza said, the obvious comparison has to be Brick. I think people who are blaming this show because of the supposed triviality of some of the 'reasons' mentioned should really need to go watch Brick. It was a film that expertly mocked at these supposed 'serious things' we as a high schooler used to consider important. Its the same approach here. Its not about the triviality of the actions or behaviours you exhibit when you are a teenager, of course they will be trivial but only when you are well past that age. So, both Brick and 13RW were able to put across that message I thought.
Anyway, excellent show. Ofcourse had its issues. But still, top top drawer. My issue was basically Hannah. Her character arc was inconsistent at times. 8.5 prolly my rating
My fav characters were Skye and Jeff #Jeffindeeddeservedbetter lol
Yea agree with ya all. Please no 2nd season. It will most definitely ruin this
And I thought the ending was fine.

I guess I get your point.
Fact remains I'm 20 years old, and I can't get any more over high school drama.
It's basically how James feel about animations, even though animations are way much better.

A little bit cringe at times, almost corny in some respects but I thought the character development for a 13 episode series was very strong.
I don't mind the ending, whether or not a season 2 is born- I'm sure it will be because $>, I am ok with making my own conclusions and seeing Clay be the great equalizer in all this.
My main problem is Hannah arriving at Bryce's house, where she was raped. Why did she go? What was her motivation to go to a party at person's house that she knew to have raped someone at a previous party which she witnessed? Also, for Jess's party, she only went for Clay, Clay is not a factor at Bryce's party. It just seemed like lazy writing for a show that was otherwise executed so well.
Watching the entire show I was like none of this seems that bad, this girl is bright and smart, she has very supportive parents- who were great characters/actors (squabbled about money and their business not booming but that's not suicide worthy for me), but the rape, disgustingly powerful scene, really tied it all together. Her suicide at that point, to me, made a lot more sense and brought it from 'cry for help' to 'severely damaged'.
Anyways, as a series, I felt it was really on point for today's pop culture.
- Spoiler:
- Are your sure about that? Yes, he vouched for her to go that too strongly. But dont think he was the reason she went there. Theres an interesting line where she says, 'She turned out just the same even though she tried to start fresh' or something like that. I think she would have gone regardless whether Clay asked her or not. Throughout the series, we see her strong sense of loneliness that she was trying to get rid of and connect desperately with people. Thats why she never missed on those kinds of things. She was always scared of being left behind and being invisible. And thats why I am assuming she also went to Bryce's party as well( which I agree was a pretty lame and illogical thing to do from a character standpoint after what happened)

Looks better than I dared hoped it would. Anson Mount won my respect in Hell on Wheels, can't wait to see how he approaches Black Bolt.

Premier was all over the place, but I still liked it.
Gonna give it a couple more episodes before I decide if I'm all in.

2nd episode was much more coherent to me and I haven't read the book.
Loved the Orlando Jones monolog and Peter Stormare is just great in just about anything he does. Great scenes in this episode.

Agreed. I haven't read the book either, but the premise of the series is very interesting for me. Definitely going to follow it a few more episodes.
I did pick up the book, though I am really overwhelmed with a ton of things at the moment - so I am not sure if/when I will get around to it. (There's also some 7 books ahead in my reading queue!)

Master of None is the best show on "television" bar none. S1 was was a great surprise, S2 is surpassing every expectation.

I watched the first season and it was very well written and relatable to anyone who lives in New York but I found the main character really unlikable. I liked his friends and family way more than him. He was so annoying, if he interacted with me like he did with other random people on NYC like that I would tell him to *bleep* off at the very least.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Have to say you're in the minority there, most people I've talked to about the show had nothing but good things to say about it, but I can see how you can find his personality annoying.
I saw him a few years ago and liked him a lot in stand up as well, so maybe I'm just predisposed to his humor.

Nah I said I liked the show just find Aziz's character annoying. I'll watch season 2 soon. The episodes in season 1 with the parents's origins and Dev sleeping with the married woman are brilliant.

I binged season 2 of master of none this weekend.
I thought it was great, better than the first and I really enjoyed the first season.
His father is the best character in any show
