Matic is decent but probably shouldn't be paired with Kante. A bigger problem for Chelsea is that if you play Matic and Kante together, you really need a good CAM in front of them to pull the strings and bring everyone in midfield into play and Oscar just isn't up for it.

ManCity finished 4th last year without Pep and Chelsea was 11th, 16 points behind. So Conte I think has much more work to do than Pep. ManCity on paper is the better team.

Also the same squad finished 1st in the PL the year before that

Would agree but at the same time, there was never ALOT to do with this Man City team to compete for the league.

The fact they haven't lost a game yet with practically the same players backs that up, only Stones has been a significant part of the team so far.

As for Chelsea this seems like a massive overreaction to me, he seems to have approached the Liverpool game wrong which can happen but the rest seems to have been fine so far?

They have just been very unimpressive. Results are not too bad but if you look at the actual games.. they needed very late comebacks against West Ham, Watford and Swansea. They are obviously not bad but they look really average.

2 of those Costa should have been sent off, So they've been riding their luck. He's a fraud for now but will improve and guide them to a top 5 finish.

Chelsea are always unimpressive early on (except for Ancelotti) I don't read much into it.

Results are all that matters atm and for the most part they are getting them.

To be honest 10/15 against these 5 teams isn't exactly getting good results either

In fairness you can say that about every Costa game ever.

This Chelsea team has an identity crisis as well, half the team is Chelsea old school while the other half is made up of flair players like them Hazard, Cesc etc.Something has to give, the entire squad needs a revamp. It will be interesting what style of play he goes with when he builds his team or even if Chelsea give him the time to do so.

Conte is very tactical so there will be an adaptation period. The players' instincts aren't in line with the new tactics yet.

What are the new tactics, though? I haven't seen any. Pretty standard 4-2-3-1 stuff, just like Chelsea have been playing for a while. The only real change that instead of Fabregas, you've got Kante in midfield.

That's a naive assumption. The main problem is Matic not being good enough. And I think maybe Cesc isn't good at covering ground so he sits on the bench. Idk, that's what I assume on that one. Otherwise, there's no reason he shouldn't be playing ahead of Matic.

Also, most of the goals we've conceded have come from stupid elementary mistakes. Which points to the same defenders from last season still being shit or not adapting well enough to Conte's system. Lovren's goal should never have happened. Simple defensive coverage. But Cahill is an idiot, so there you have it. Henderson's goal should never have happened either. Simple case of failing to close down a player (which happened a lot last season) but Cahill is an idiot, so there you have it. If we could flip Cahill and Ivanovic (and Matic) for better players, we'd be neck and neck with Man City at the top of the table right now.

There's a lot of work to be done, for sure. It's too early to panic.

Conte purchased a CM (Kante) for big money in the summer, yet you're saying your CM situation is bad. Conte purchased a CB (Luiz) for big money in the summer, yet you're saying your defence is shit. And this is why Conte should be off the hook. Does not compute.

Same shape... different execution within that shape however. Azpi-Ivanovic are asked to stay somewhat conservative because Matic is being used as an attacking B2B. Under Mourinho, the two CMs in the double pivot stayed back while the fullbacks bombed forward.

The movements of the back 4 and CMs are different basically.

Conte is making due with the squad he has... but he still needs quite a few changes. Matic, Ivanovic and Oscar aren't up to par or miscast.

conte needs to be more attack minded in England.

If the EPL were so "tough" the EPL teams would be steam rolling over teams in European competition.

Chelsea is just not a great team in terms of personnel. It's a team that finished 10th last year in the league.

If the Chelsea management think that top 4 is easily achievable in Conte's first year, they are delusional. If Conte does it, it will have been miraculous. Conte will be doing very well if he can get Chelsea into the Europa League.
