Re: Conte sack watch
What were our 2 bad seasons in Europe with Conte? The one were we hadn't been in CL for a couple of years, and then knocked out Chelsea, won our group and lost in the QF to the would-be champions Bayern was bad?

Re: Conte sack watch
Ok maybe not "BAD"... more like "DAB" (an acronym for Decent At Best)
The year with Chelsea, Shakhtar, Nordsjealland we have struggles in group stage and and a easy path to QFs. Then we cease to exist in Munich.
The year with Galatasaray in snow was disappointing but at least we reach far in Europa League, for what's it worth.
It wasn't impressive because he didn't believe himself that we could be relevant in Champions League. Therefore failed to implement in players mind the same grinta that won us some championships in Italy.

Re: Conte sack watch
Even Arsene Wenger did well in the CL until facing champions like Barcelona, Bayern etc... doesn’t mean those campaigns were not underwhelming/mediocre.
Not questioning him as a manager but his CL campaigns have been crap with both Chelsea and Juventus and he keeps proving it this season again.

Re: Conte sack watch
The second one with that game in the snow was bad although we got to the semis of EL but the first one was good.
That was a very good Shaktar and the CL champions Chelsea. We topped the group. Then we beat Celtic convincingly 5-0.
We had no business beating Bayern at the time, it wasn't a surprising loss. The were fresh out of putting 7 past Barca and we were in our first CL season in a while.
I remember we conceded the first goal because of that 30 meter free kick from Alaba. Can't really account for that tactically. Matri-Quags had nothing to do vs the GOAT Bayern team.

Decent At Best is the best rating you can give to losing 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter finals.

Re: Conte sack watch
So far Conte never achieved in Europe, if anything he was decent (at best) in 2012-2013. Still to me it was unsatisfying.
Someone will downgrade as a whole when the best parts of him are downgrading, not when the average parts of him are downgrading. Conte's best part is being a motivator, his average part is being a tactician. So he becomes worst when the motivator part in him is affected.
That's what we see in Europe, he stops believing, and this translates to the players. As an average tactician he cannot fix the problems soon enough.

Re: Conte sack watch
That's Costacurta.
Just said this week that he wants Conte (ex-NT teammate) for the NT coach job after the FIGC went into commission (of which he is part of) and would go talk to him, but Conte pledged his commitment to Chelsea saying that he would see out his contract.

Why would Conte take over a job as dreary and unpromising as Italy NT coach?

Re: Conte sack watch
You guys need to chill, unless there's some personal issues backstage he won't be sacked.
Only time clubs like this sack their managers mid season is when they are grossly underperforming like Mourinho at Chelsea.

@Hans
Have you ever heard a Conte interview? he lives for that. Plus this team is 100x more promising than the one he actually coached. He said he regretted leaving and that he wanted to come back in the future.
I don't know if it will happen ofc. Just wishful thinking but he has been confirmed a candidate and said he wanted back at some point so might as well dream.

At this rate, we won't finish top 4, which is all Roman cares about. He'll be sacked soon.
Probably after we lose to WBA, because that it how we sack our managers.

You'll be fine, unless of course Roman fears that too but I doubt he's as knee jerky as the average forum poster tbh.

Do you actually think he might take over the Milan job? Assuming Gattuso isn't fortifying the position? Would that be somewhat possible or a Milan fan pipe dream?

Doesn't Chelsea have as many coaches as season under Abramovich? he is famous for this.

If we were talking a few months ago when Montella was still in charge I'd say its a given that he would take the Milan job.
Now that they just hired Gattuso I don't think that they will fire him just after two months on the job while he has actually performed. Can't imagine that going down well with many fans. Hiring and firing (unfairly) a Milan legend to hire a Juve Legend.
Another detail is that Conte would want assurances from Milan that they are not about to be sold to creditors and that they can actually invest. He is bitchy about transfers and wants a big investment and some freedom. Didn't have it with Juve, didn't have it with Chelsea, complained both times.
If those conditions exist then I'd say its a very real chance. Probably more likely at the end of the season when Gattuso can simply not get renewed and its no big deal.

Re: Conte sack watch
Whats been the problem for Chelsea lately though? I've always felt squad wise they arent all that, and Conte has got them to over perform a bit, maybe now its just the normal level? Or luck? Or tiredness or what?

They replaced the 2nd best striker in the league with a guy who is absolutely average, and are having to deal with the champions league on top of everything now.

Re: Conte sack watch
"Having to deal with CL"? When did playing in CL become some tricky, unsolvable problem for top clubs? CL is normality ffs. Besides, the last CL game was early December, so I don't see how that makes Chelsea lose vs Bourneouth and Watford now.

Chelsea could do with someone like KDB and Salah.

Could also do with a Lukaku since they want a target man.
They have one of the all time worst transfer records.
