Zidane Sack Watch
He is about to be appointed as team manager, it will happen sooner or later
I will say it now, people expecting miracles as if Zidane is the greatest coaching talent in the last century have never seen his castilla play
It will be just as bad as Benitez, but the excuses will be "Benitez ruined the team, he came in mid season, not much that he can do"
oh well

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
Agree Nick. He will be able to handle the primma donna's better (but then again I'm not sure if he has handled Odeguard that well), but from what we've seen at Castilla, his tactics are also questionable.
Being a great player does not necessarily make a great coach!

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
I know it will flop just as bad, because we have structural problems that are to sensible to adjust for a newbie manager like him. But he was always going to coach the team so he might as well come in and be killed by the machine so we can forget him and move on.

You seem quite knowledgeable about Ødegaard's antics, despite not being able to spell his name correctly.

Is he gonna be a Pep Guardiola/Simeone or a Tim Sherwood/Maradona?

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
We should rename this Sack Watch.
But then Zidane won't get the sack nearly as fast as Rafa since he's been a backstabbing, bootlicking sycophant at Uncle Flo's court all this time, angling for the manager job without any credentials

As long as we don't get relegated, I don't think anyone cares what he does this season. We weren't going to win shit with Rafa anyways. Let him experiment

Well, a Maradona/Sherwood then. Flop & sack.
Now it's when he turns Madrid around and triumphs unexpectedly like Guardiola...

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
Coaching a 2nd division team requires a different skillset than coaching a worldwide top5 team. Idk if Zidane is good enough, but I won't judge him based on what he did at Castilla.

Oh that That was more like a 6 month vacation for him than a real job, by that point Simeone had already coached 4 teams and won 2 titles in Argentina.

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
Ah true , he had even coached in Argentina ( and very well too ).
Well , exactly he wasn't a rookie when he coached Atletico. -- what I meant
So it hasn't to do with Guardiola or Inzaghi about it
I don't believe Zidane will perform exactly for this reason , experiance is fundamental if you want to lead these teams ... Guardiola is just an exception and anyway Barca is a particular situation because of its cantera's world , the system etc even Luis Enrique is working

Re: Zidane Sack Watch
I said this in the Madrid section and i'll say it again... since Mou took over, he fought with the Castilla coach then to make Castilla's tactics mirror the senior team's... and he won the battle. Since that time (Mou's last year then Carlo and now Rafa), Castilla has implemented the same tactics as the Senior team. Under Mou, it was the 4231, then last year it became a 433 and then back to a 4231 this season.
This was an executive order regardless of roster. The reason? If a Castilla player needed to be called up on an emergency basis to the senior team, they wanted the player to be tactically familiar before arriving.
So you can't say that Zidane has implemented his style at Castilla... he hasn't. He's implemented the style of whoever was the manager of the senior team. Now we'll see what style he really wants.
Given how he's continuously praised Guardiola (and basically campaigned for this style to be implemented at Madrid), i predict he will try to transition Madrid to a 433 with an emphasis on ball possession. He won't get it completely done this season. But it will be 100% done for the next one.
