Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Quick, skillful type of striker. Think he'd be a decent alternative to Giroud, but he's not a massive upgrade and is 27 so doubt he'd improve that much.
Tbh I think Sevilla/Villareal is his level, but we do need someone...

Mustafi & agent met Valencia officials yesterday. Told he can leave if adequate offer made. Suggestion Arsenal deal could be agreed at £26m

So it's a player he rates, at least.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
So if he comes then we'll be behind him. Might turn out to be the Spanish Vardy which we need at the Club. Although this means Giroud starts another season as our no 1 striker lol.

Could be a late bloomer, for all we know.
Sri wrote:This is the agent trying to drive up the price for Everton. Simple as.
The quoted fee is a release clause, which Everton reportedly already agreed to pay.
Marca this morning are saying there's "total agreement", that the player could sign a three to four year deal, and that Depor are looking for replacements. They also say the player can still turn the move down but they seem confident he won't.
Usually if agents/clubs are trying to drive the price up you don't see words like agreement and imminent in reports.

It's a mess of our own making but we either have Giroud-Lucas for a season or Giroud-Walcott-Alexis-Sanogo-etc for a season.

There was better out there and there's still a couple. I don't get what this accomplishes other than depth.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal very hopeful that £17m deal for Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez will be done. Maybe Champions League football swung it.
— John Cross (@johncrossmirror) August 25, 2016
Arsenal interested in signing Deportivo La Coruna CF Lucas Perez. Not done deal but #AFC in contention - 27yo, 17 gls in 37 apps last season
— David Ornstein (@bbcsport_david) August 25, 2016
Estimate by @AST_arsenal was £96m for signings. After Xhaka/Holding/Asano/Kalechi & £40+m CB (Mustafi 1st choice), not much left for CF #AFC
— David Ornstein (@bbcsport_david) August 25, 2016
Everton had done all the groundwork on Lucas Perez Martinez & sorted deal with Deportivo - but Arsenal came in with late interest.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Thanks for those details, Jay.
I still find it amusing that in a summer where 96m was our estimate, and we spent 36 on Xhkaka, we had about 60 left. That is basically 20 Vardy or 35 Laca bids in there - plus kids. Kelechi really shouldn't count in there, since he was scouted and negotiations began in Jan or something. So basically, we never wanted to dip into the higher end striker market all along.
That is, we never really wanted to look to displace Giroud. Telling.

@arseblog in principle, yes, he should be. Quick, very busy, will get the space he likes, a more open, faster game.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
West Brom want him as well, offering bigger wages than Everton did
I like to think we can beat out the competition here but you never know.
I wonder about that estimate. I'm convinced we have more money that that, and we can raise funds by selling players. We threw out a good £70-80mil on players in 2014 (Ospina, Chambers, Alexis, Welbeck, Debuchy) which if you total up the wages would easily put the outlay close to £100mil, and we've only gotten richer since then...
Just seems odd to me that the budget has seemingly shrunk, especially after we only spent about £20mil last year.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Anyway, 7amkickoff on Lucas:
Lucas scored 17 goals on a mere 100 shots with just one goal from the penalty spot but, crucially, he scored four goals on the counter attack. Arsenal were one of the worst teams in England on counter attacks last season, scoring just three goals in 38 games. Lucas also added 8 assists for Depor, often playing as the lone striker up front and creating for late-running midfielders. All combined Lucas scored or created 25 of Deportivo’s 45 goals last season, carrying 56% of the scoring workload for his team.
Lucas took 100 shots and also created 72 shots for teammates, that means 38% of Deportivo’s total offense ran through Lucas. This season he has already scored and assisted both of Deportivo’s goals in their opening match against Eibar. It remains to be seen if a player who is used to being the number one option will be happy playing in the Arsenal system or if, perhaps more crucially, the Arsenal system will be happy playing him as the number one option.
Lucas’ total shots numbers are low for a star striker at 100. However, his team only took 455 shots in the whole season. In contrast, Arsenal took 574 shots last season, 119 more shots total. Arsenal also created 467 key passes last season and Deportivo 331. The shots will be there for Lucas at Arsenal if he wants them.
Lucas is also not the type of player to just take shots from distance. In a typically Arsenal style, Lucas took 66% of his shots inside the 18 yard box. He also scored only two goals from outside the 18 yard box, one from a direct free kick.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
@joes_96 Links are credible. Personal thoughts are he’s fairly cheap, and it’s late in window. It’s a gamble. Not Arsenal quality at all.

@GeoffArsenal @AST_arsenal AFC have funds to spend huge if AW wants player & deal is possible, as he said. But outside that, this is budget
