Re: E3 2016
Sorry I wasn't watching with you boys, I was writing my dissertation during EA's conference and I dozed off in my chair before Bethesda's show started and only woke up during the Dishonoured section at the end lol, but from the reactions I can guess that it was rubbish.
E3 has degraded in quality over the years so its no surprise its been bad so far, I'd honestly prefer that devs announce their games throughout the year instead of leaving them for this one week and making us deal with this cringy nonsense.
P.s. I quite like the FIFA story mode idea, hopefully you aren't restricted to playing in the EPL though.

Re: E3 2016
I thought Bethesda's was alright really.
Dishonored looked great imo and Prey looks interesting although it nothing like the Prey 2 reveal in 2011 and gave an Dead Space vibe to me.
Much better than EA's shit show anyway, maybe I'm cutting them slack because EA was so *bleep* awful though.
Best game I seen so far wasn't actually at a press conference and that was Mafia 3 which managed to make me even more hyped than I was.
Hopefully both MS and Sony are better, don't expect much from Ubisoft though.

Not a fan of Final Fantasy, but dem actors.
Must have cost Square Enix a fortune to hire them, hope they're not cutting budgets on other parts of the game though.

Re: E3 2016
read that square are making something like 5+ million a week from mobile gaming alone and have been for a few years so they aren't hurting for money lol, same reason they can put a game into development for ten years, if the budget for this new final fantasy ever comes out with accurate numbers I'm sure it will shock ppl

Kingsglaive is a movie, apparently. At first, I thought it was DLC or a particular mission in the upcoming FF game. But yeah, I'm curious about how much they've spent on the game.

I imagine we'll see FF at Microsoft's in a couple of hours, doubt Sony are gonna show FFXV and Persona.

yeah I know it's a movie, I'm just saying they can afford to drop millions on things like that which are basically just marketing for the game without thinking twice, obviously I don't know the ins and outs of the budget but I'd be surprised if they manage to break even on this first entry of the Noctis game, of course they're going to turn it into a series like they did the lightning stuff, wouldn't be surprised if Noctis saga dominates the mainline FF series for the next decade

Re: E3 2016
and yeah I think I'm sold on Mafia, haven't had a good open world crime game since GTA and there doesn't seem to be any to fill that void on the horizon besides Mafia. Footage looked good. I'm in.

Re: E3 2016
On Mafia i might as well post this....
It's good that they are not shying away from all the racism stuff which obviously was big part of that time.
"Historical pulp fiction"
“There are a lot of changes,” says Bill Harms, lead writer on Mafia III. “If you go from what the world was in the ’50s to 1968, like, just that era of social upheaval, legal upheaval, the civil rights act, things like that. This is the very first inklings of [other] criminal elements [that] were going to change [the landscape]. In the ’40s, it was World War II, and then later on it was the Korean War, [then the] Vietnam [War]. 1968 is when all of those guys started coming home [from Vietnam] and going, ‘You know what? Maybe everything you’re seeing on the news isn’t jiving with what we saw,’ and that’s when you really started seeing protests and things like that.
“I wouldn’t say it’s the polar opposite, but it is significantly different for how society viewed a variety of things from war to rights for African-Americans, rights for women, and even the music. You hear Paint It Black from The [Rolling] Stones, that is a song of the ’60s, or what I consider one of the best songs ever written, Fortunate Son. That song would not have been written in 1952. In the ’60s, that song perfectly encapsulates what is going on in a lot of ways.”
"Recapture the term 'mafia' to mean more than just the Italian mob"
The ’60s was also a crucial time for the Italian Mob, as this was the time period when organised crime families started to rise from other cultures. “We know that by the late 1960s, the Italian Mafia was not only being challenged by the government and the public, but also other criminal groups,” says Blackman. “Setting the game in 1968 allows us to explore that part of the Mob’s history and recapture the term ‘Mafia’ to mean more than just the Italian Mob.”
Racism as a mechanic
As for threats outside of Clay’s new blood-drenched crime family, these stem from obvious places, such as rival gang members, to the less obvious historically confronting realities of being a person of African-American appearance living in the Southern United States.
“The behaviour of pedestrians and NPCs – certainly not everywhere throughout the game, but in large sections of it – there are places where if Lincoln looks out of place and seems out of place, people will react to that,” says Blackman. “There are places you can go that just being there is an offence and will elicit a police response. We aren’t so naïve to think that a single game could cure racism, but if we can get the player to think, ‘Why am I being treated differently here than in other parts of town?’ then I think we’ve done something worthwhile.”
It’s a landmark gameplay mechanic for the franchise, whereby the player will be treated as hostile just because of the colour of Clay’s skin. As a gameplay mechanic, it extends beyond the usual suspicious treatment that comes when a player enters a clearly flagged out-of-bounds area. As a narrative tool, it creates a powerful empathy between player and protagonist, bringing into question the notion of police and even civilian innocence when racist beliefs result in negative treatment, even when the player may not be doing anything illegal at the time.
It's good that they are not shying away from all the racism stuff which obviously was big part of that time.
