Re: The boom in Chinese football
And btw,you guys should do more research on the Chinese Super league.
They are only allowed to buy 5 foreign players for each team and allowed to field only 4 foreigners in the starting XI.
So its not like they're just focusing on stacking up as many foreign players they can.

Re: The boom in Chinese football
Those chinese teams are really going to inflate the market if they keep spending like this .
At a certain point , even world class players in their prime will start considering high 8 figure contracts in china over the lure of the champions league and " big league " football .

Re: The boom in Chinese football
they'll either overpay for over the hill players like yaya. Or overpay for lesser known talent like teixiera, who may have turned into a stud, in the right situation, but took longer than expected to make the next step.
Someone like Oscar, whos a star, in his prime, would never suffocate his career by going to china, regardless of the salary. which is why I'm sure Chelsea "reportedly" turned down 75 mil for him.

Maybe its the culture shock. because in theory, its waay more money for you, plus a large enough market to make even more. yet players with reputation usually bail a season or two in.

Re: The boom in Chinese football
MLS needs to get its act together and start some real reforms on how we allocate salary and pay players or were going to fall behind and lose a lot of targets to this league

Re: The boom in Chinese football
i think it will be like basketball in china. they'll attract players from europe, south america, africa (mls got north america i think); but these will probably be players who have played in europe and either considered 'has-beens' or guys who just haven't made it. and the money's there for these guys in china, just look at stephon marbury, he's a big deal over there; a huge icon, but i don't think there's an nba team that wants him.
its may be a "boom" in chinese football, but not so globally; until these clubs can compete with euro clubs for top players in their prime, so until we see say, madrid trying to sign a top talent, and the talent says no he's going to one of the chinese clubs, i don't see it affecting european football so much....even the term "boom" is a bit of a stretch, i mean, it may just be like the mls, which seems to attract some audiences in the states, but a lot of footy lovers are just 'meh' about it

Re: The boom in Chinese football
They have already illustrated why they are going to be a better league than MLS going forward.
It's a boom in Chinese football because this kind of spending is unprecedented in their history almost on par with Europe's top clubs.
It's ultimately being aimed at improving the quality of Chinese football and groom home-grown talents in the process.
The government has also pledged to build plenty of football academies and schools in an aim to improve grassroots football.
The last time they had this kind of dedicated plan was like some 10-15 yrs in an aim to become a top nation as far as Olympics is concerned and guess what happened.
We should not underestimate China's potential. The results will be realized in the long run.

Re: The boom in Chinese football
Fenerbahce winger Nani is uninterested in a move to the Chinese Super League because he wants to win honours with the Turkish club.
Last week, Fenerbahce chairman Aziz Yildirim claimed he rejected an offer of €20million from an unnamed Chinese team for the former Manchester United man.
A host of high-profile names, including Jackson Martinez, Ramires and Fredy Guarin recently made switches to the rapidly expanding league, which has seen its transfer record broken three times in a little over a week.
Nani, who joined Fener from United during the close-season and has eight goals in 29 appearances this term, had no desire to join their number
"Both for our club and even for me, this was a huge bid in economic terms," the 29-year-old Portugal international told Fenerbahce's official website.
"But I look at this offer - the first goal is not to win money. I want to achieve my goals in football.

Maybe this will finally stop Lavezzi to Inter rumors, I can't stand another window of that again.

Re: The boom in Chinese football
I popped in a West Ham forum to see what they make of Payet's apparent wage increase demands and contract negotiations and they had a rumour a Chinese club was ready to pay £38m for Payet.
The Chinese window closes somewhere in the end of February, we'll see if they have any more big money moves up their sleeves.

Re: The boom in Chinese football
will have consequences for big teams IMO
elite players at big clubs will be saying well these scrubs are earning this much then we deserve to be paid accordingly
barca are already struggling to accommodate MSN's wage demands
