Re: Manga and Anime
Reading Monster atm as well. Surprised the art is not as bad as i thought given the age.
yea Gintama is over 600 eps lol. But it's surprisingly addicting. So many parodies and references.

Not sure if you are into survival mangas (like btooom or mirrai nikki) but reading Darwin's game atm and it's pretty addicting.

Re: Manga and Anime
yeah this latest episode is probably one of my favorite parts of part 4 tbh
the last few arcs were boring as hell in the manga but the anime actually made them good

I watched the anime years ago. I enjoyed some parts, others not so much. I'll leave it at that, since I don't want to imply any spoilers lol.

Re: Manga and Anime
Finished a notorious series recently, didn't realise it was done by the author of a GOAT lvl manga I'd read (Homunculus), I'd heard of it years ago, has a movie adaption that is gruesome as f apparently - Ichi The Killer. Easily the most batshit crazy manga I've ever read, but worth a read, love the art and setting, but it's crazy violent psychological series

Re: Manga and Anime
yeah, frequently listed in the most disturbing movies ever lists
the author of the mangaka is something else man..for Homunculus which was a psycholigcal masterpiece, he spent some time being homeless so he could accurately depict it ffs
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296042/
give the manga 7.5/10
Monster is really good, actually didn't find it a top series until the last 1/3 where everything came together, definitely have some issues with it though, with that author you gotta suspend your disbelief about certain circumstances because it seems too convenient, read 20th century boys in the future though, plot is ridiculous but it has more of an 'epic' feel to it and goat characters

Tenma doing some major ass surgeries with basement equipment doesn't really make sense but allow it.

Re: Manga and Anime
Finished Monster.
Loved the journey from start to finish. However don't know how I feel about the ending. they wrapped up the characters nicely apart from Johan's but I was expecting a bigger payoff. Specially with Johan.
But it was Tenma's journey in the end and from his point of view he stuck to his morals and finished what he started.
From Johan's point of view I don't really know.
Characters were great. Grimmer was GOAT. Some of the mini arcs were amazing.
I'd rate it 8.5/10 overall.
What did you guys make of it? @Casciavit @Firenze

Re: Manga and Anime
yeah I have it at 8.5/10 too, rounded it to a 9 because it was better written than most, Grimmer was the best character Think Johan is overrated among anime/manga fans
a lot of people say the author has trouble wrapping series up
try 20th century boys if you can get into it, like I said, plot is ridiculous in comparison, but it's more of an adventure and has better pacing IMO, also a large cast of characters, i enjoyed it more than Monster, has way bigger high points, actually hit me in the feels hard a few times too

Re: Manga and Anime
Problem with Johan was that the author hyped him into an anti-christ type of character but in the end he had no idea what to do with him or how to wrap the series up. At one point he started introducing layers of bosses on top of each other and that's where you knew he was having problems ending it. He still did his best though. At least all the other characters were wrapped up nicely. I really liked Eva's character as well.
I'll read 20th century boys because Urasawa's style and art is nice to follow. I'll see if I like the story.
tired of reading on-going mangas. When you catch up and wait a week or month for an issue it becomes depressing.

Re: Manga and Anime
you read any 20th century boys RG
thinking of going to watch that new Makoto Shinkai movie next month, showing in select cinemas
absolutely smashing box office in Japan and the novel based on the movie has been first on the best seller list for a few weeks too, supposed to be his best work by far

Re: Manga and Anime
Yea reading it along with some other stuff. Tried reading 'Rain' but it was garbage so dropped it. Also started re-monster (really weird so far).
Kimi no na wa is the first non-miyazaki film to earn over a billion yen. Nearly reached 10b. Smashing every record. It does seem like its his best. Would be his 3rd masterpiece and by the time he retires he is definitely going to rival Miyazaki.
I read that it's gonna be showing in a lot of cinemas for a limited time. If it's anywhere near me then I'll go as well but won't travel too far.
Have you read Pluto btw? Is it worth reading?

Re: Manga and Anime
I saw that Rain you were reading, looked average. Yeah, I thought it was only showing in london but it's only a 30 min journey to the nearest one for me so I will probably go watch it. Not a fan of watching subtitled movies in a group though.
Pluto was very average. Would only recommend it if you're bored and there's nothing else you're interested in. Gonna read the author's other work Billy Bat which finished a month ago when I've finished what I'm reading atm.

Re: Manga and Anime
I know few people who have already watched it in shit quality on fan subs lol. At best I'll wait for 1080p at least. And I still have to watch Garden of Words before that.
Koe no katachi also got released. It's doing really well despite coming out at the same time as Kimi no na wa.
All the mangas I have to start or going to start are heavy. Just reading few light stuff for now before i properly binge on 20th century boys

Re: Manga and Anime
lol I finally watched Boy and The Beast after putting it off for 6+ months saying I'll watch it in a few days, heard it was kinda disappointing and I agree completely, still pretty good but not even on the level of Summer Wars from the same director. Seemed too ambitious and rushed for a two hour movie. Gonna watch that Kokoro movie you mentioned sometime this weekend.

Re: Manga and Anime
Yea recently put that on plan to watch. Don't plan on watching it anytime soon but MAL rating is high for it.
btw Re:Monster is actually a pretty good manga. I am glad i didn't give up when it was a bit slow at the start.

Golden age arc burnt him out. He knows that he will never write something as good again so probably lost all motivation.
