Re: Uefa : The all time XI
lol at ramos being there.
the guy gets in so many awards just for his goals, much less in a position he hasn't played in since 2009

Re: Uefa : The all time XI
Despite one to three positions being a bit meh, which is due to the selection progress (to be in the UEFA team of the year/season/month whatever you team usually needs to do well as a whole, you very rarely get in for a performance of "the team was shit, but this guy XYZ was super great in it"), this is one of those "best of XI" teams that might actually win a match if they were to play.
Sure, their midfield is super leaky, but if they kept possession? That's one mean squad. All of them in their prime? Not any worse than current Barca/Bayern/Madrid.

Yes, how dare they indeed.VivaStPauli wrote:In the UEFA all time squad? How dare they.
If you put it on merit, some South American players had huge success while representing European clubs more so than some of the European players in that list so ofcourse I would question that.

In all seriousness that's just because they didn't do any actual quality statement, they just looked who made the team of the month/year/whatever most often.
So it obviously favors players like Ramos, who tends to have many great, and many shit games, and not too many average games, over players that f*ck up less often, but also win their team the match less often.
This will always be debatable, just like the FIFA rankings are. Once you look at how they selected players you basically go "ah, that's why half of it doesn't make sense", and move on.

Re: Uefa : The all time XI
If I were actually making a team there I would take Ronaldinho over Henry and you would think there'd be a better candidate to play the DM position (just in terms of team chemistry) like Busquets (who I just realized has never been in team of the season LOL), Seedorf or Alaba.
Otherwise yeah, I could see that best XI winning a lot together if it was actually put together.

Re: Uefa : The all time XI
Since it's all of the 21st century, you got a metric shitton of GOAT DMs to choose from, like Van Bommel, Ballack, Frings, Schweinsteiger, Alaba, Seedorf, and many more. But that's not how this team is selected.
That's why I meant it's leaky. The most defense minded mid of those is probably Stevie G, or Xavi, depending on play style.
Edit: or Essien, if you want someone less European.

Re: Uefa : The all time XI
Yeah I was just picking from guys that had been voted into the team of the year (Seedorf 2x, Alaba 2x) and I had posted Busquets before even noticing that I don't think he's ever been in the team which is ridiculous in and of itself.
Lots of other DMs that could have been picked from yes that didn't make TotY though.
