Re: The Mule League Denunciation Thread
I don't get Arsenal's obsession with Wenger. This guy is always taking 1 step forward and 2 step back. If the club had any ambition they would start looking to replace him asap. A few FA Cups doesn't rule out almost a decade of finishing 2/3/4th. Now he might not even get them out of the group.
As for the mule league, it's becoming comical watching them fall apart like this.

Re: The Mule League Denunciation Thread
I don't think these losses are to do with what league they play in. Just a couple of years ago we couldn't get past the last 16 even with all our money but once we broke that trend it became alot easier. Until PL teams get over their mental issue they'll continue to suffer in Europe

farfan is right though.
The current top EPL teams might be in a slump, but things are developing. 2nd-3rd tier teams strengthening with all that money, West Ham, Swansea, getting good coaches too.
At some point all that investment will show results, whether in EL or CL.
There already operating on a massive financial advantage in these competitions. I don't see how anymore really is going to do anything.
I mean Liverpool put a 100 million dollar side out against FC Bordeaux and tied. What more of an advantage do they need?
So you think Guardiola, Klopp, Ancelotti etc will do a terrible job if they take over EPL teams ?
The only consistent English team in Europe in recent yrs is Chelsea and that's coz they have a proven winner at the helm.
Don't tell me it's hard for the riches of EPL to attract high profile managers.

we all agree the slump began some 4 / 5 years ago . so why make that comparison when it's obvious the PL will lag behind ? the whole point in using a decade / 11 years was to showcase that the PL dominated Europe's premiere competition in the recent past , and it has the potential to do so again .
Europa league ? can't be bothered to even wikipedia that crap .

Re: The Mule League Denunciation Thread
the PL did do better than other leagues in the CL during extended periods of time in the past decade .
there's a reason the PL was ranked number 1 in the UEFA coefficient thingy coming into the 2010-2011 season even with the crappy europa league results .

BarrileteCosmico wrote:What style problem? Is Arsenal's style really so different than Valencia's? Yet one is denounced as part of the mule league and the other is praised for being part of GOAT liga. This league vs league stuff is nonsense.
And here we have Dnmac claiming that the EPL can't attract top players when if asked in an interview almost all top players will say "I'd like to play at some point in England"
Are you kidding? I mean really are you actually being serious?
Man United tried to throw the kitchen sink at Neymar and Muller this transfer window, basically a blank check approach and there wasn't even a 10% chance of either player moving to the EPL.
Top players and I mean the real cream of the crop best players in the world do not want to play in England. The proof is in the pudding.
Look at the best players and where they play NOW. It's not by happenstance.
I don't know how anyone could even argue this point.
I mean England does have great world class keepers but look at De Gea, he wants out of United ASAP just as he's becoming one of the best keepers in the world.
The bottom line is the EPl doesn't have the game changers like La Liga. Case and point Barca lose Messi, they wee in a dog fight yesterday and Suarez bailed them out.
There was no one on Chelsea or Arsenal yesterday to do that. And that is where the gap is. You can have all the money in the world but if the best players don't want to go to your league then your stuck buying 2 or 3 good players for the price of a great one which hasn't been working of late.
The EPL has been relegated to buying that second tier of top players and when they do get a great one, again of late they are not able to hold onto them. It's like once they reach that greatness status it's off to a different league.

LOL, if we all agree the slump has been in the last 4-5 years why are you using the last decade? You are just using what ever number suit your propaganda.
If your so inclined to not focus on the current situation why don't we just go back a couple decades and then again you will see where the EPL has been underwhelming in Europe.
You just want to use a time frame to squeeze in that couple years of dominance and forget anything that happened before or after that time frame.
Your cherry picking, and it's obvious. England has never been a powerhouse in Europe historically and has lagged behind Italy and Spain if you look at the big picture.
But were not talking about that, were talking about this current run of bad results and the reasons why.

Re: The Mule League Denunciation Thread
do you get the concept of " recent past " ?
ok forget the decade part ... the PL amassed more coefficient points than any other league between 2006-2012 with CL performances alone .
the EPL had massive success as recently as 5 years ago . there is no reason to assume they wont get back to winning again , especially when we know for a fact that all leagues go through a down period .

because it went from being a thread about one league to bring one about a comparison with another league, something you played no small part on. Thus it was moved to the appropriate section for league vs league threadsDnmac4 wrote:And why on earth was this thread moved?

Are you saying the recent decline in the Champions League is down to the managers?
Are you going to sit here and tell me that Mourinho, LVG, Wenger and Pellegrini are bad managers?
Are they not better than,
La Liga- Luis Enrique, Rafa, Simeone, Emery, Espirito Santo (Don't even try it with Rafa, the guys been a running joke on here for years, especially from EPL fans)
Italy- Allegri, Garcia, Pioli
Germany-Pep, Schubert, Schmidt, Skrypnyk
I mean the EPL managers are more than up to the task and frankly outside of maybe LA Liga and that's a big maybe they have the best group of managers already with good Champions League pedigree.
It's like for the EPL to succeed some people on here think they need every single built in advantage, a stacked deck if you will. And some seem to think there entitled to it.

Sure, everything is cyclical. But again England has always been behind other leagues when it comes to Europe. They have taken it to an extreme level these days.
But this thread is about why is it happening now, not forget now it will change in the future with money. The money is already being spent and has been for years now.
You seem to want to shift what the thread is actually about and just arbitrarily through out that the EPL will rise again in Europe with no reason why or when.
Everyone knows sports a cyclical, that doesn't take away from the embarrassment the league is feeling now.
BTW, This thread was created as a semi-joke but the EPL has played right into the OP's hands.
I mean there not just not as good as other leagues in Europe currently, they are losing to teams they outspend by the hundreds of millions.
People seem to want to gloss over that and just say forget it, we were good 6 years ago and that will happen again sometime (who knows when). Not a good argument.

Re: The Mule League Denunciation Thread
the main problem with the PL teams is the footy being played in the league is meh, pace and grit lost its edge, its more and more coming down to style and tactics, something the prem has always been behind in imo, no amount of money and managers gonna make a difference, if the base footy in the league doesn't improve or just gotta wait until la liga start to decline.
