Re: Thibaut Courtois
He hasn't been outright bad, but he hasn't had an impressive start either. The season has only just begun, and he's barely had a chance to play. I get the impression that he's a convenient scapegoat when the team, and the defense in particular, doesn't play up to expectations. His poor footwork is nothing new, but he has shown in the past that he has other qualities that are rightfully, highly rated, and those aren't going to disappear over night. I'd be more worried if we had conceded these many goals on a night where the opposing team wasn't steamrolling us.

Not at fault for any of the goals. Why cant Hala and D.O.C blame Ramos and Marcelo? Both were the biggest culprits in Madrid's loss today

Listen Chelsea, I understand. I do. We sold you the biggest fraudulent forward in a long time in Morata and you sold us a slightly taller version of Cudicini. Let's write this off and give each other back the players and start from scratch.

Morata has just started scoring again.
We'll swap if he stops again

I can only recall one solid performance so far. It was against Atlético Madrid where he made a series of vital saves and was amazing throughout. Other than that, he has been pretty average (and I'm being nice).
But I maintain that the GK position should be the least of Madrid's worries.

Courtois has been good for us, he was amazing in the derby, killed two 1v1 chances from Atletico which should have been goals.
People looking for someone to blame, he is certainly not at fault here lol

Re: Thibaut Courtois
Navas has been better Nick... he's a better shot stopper than Courtois. His problem was ball at his feet and handling balls coming into the box... Courtois is no better honestly. He sticks too close to the goalline and is downright clumsy handling the ball with his feet.
Certainly not an upgrade so far. So far, a downgrade.
I never understood the fascination with replacing Navas who has always been quite good. BUT, given Navas' age and the price of keepers, getting Courtois for 35 mil is a steal and it should help us long run when Navas invariably slows down.
I think we should just give the job to Courtois and be done with it. This rotating keepers has never worked. It might be a reason for the hesitancy in Courtois.

They've only been rotating for a month. I agree that the goalkeeper position wasn't a high priority, but like you say, we got him for cheap and it will likely benefit us in the long run. Despite Courtois' well documented, poor footwork, I don't think he's been featured enough to warrant the harsh criticism he's already receiving on here.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
I'm going to agree courtois will be beneficial in the long run for that price, but he is not a massive upgrade and as hypelords make him out to be no surprise really, tbh I liked Navas better he is quick and agile makes courtois look like a tall clumsy old man, I feel he will improve eventually once he settles.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
Good day Chelsea, it's me again. I hope I ain't disturb your day. Listen, take this fucking piece of shit goalie back. Just take him, we'll still pay him his salary, just take him. And take Nick as well while you're at it, always liking the worst kind of footballers. You know, the footballers that suck at their job.
I'm sorry about Morata, I really am. He fooled me too but let's not be filled with hatred. Take back Conetois and let him just stay in London. You don't have to play him.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
I have no intention to defend Courtois’ poor form, nor his occasionally underwhelming performances for us, but this is the same kind of overreaction that was displayed when De Gea underperformed in the world cup. Unless it persists, it means very little in the grand scheme of things. Somehow, I doubt he’ll make this type of blunder into a habit.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
Courtois already has a habit of making mistakes. He is not a bad GK, but he is not really a very good one like many people say. He's very insecure. Also, not sure if it was discussed here on GL, but to me even the 4th goal conceded against Ajax was half his mistake.
These are just some of his mistakes (one of Messi's goals is not really his mistake, but the video is still pretty conclusive). The problem is that when you compare him to De Gea, you can't truly say Courtois improved over the years, while De Gea only used to make such mistakes in his first years at United and has greatly improved season after season. Since then, he was incredibly solid in many many games and those mistakes from the WC and the couple more recent ones from the club are absolutely nothing compared to his usual weekly performances.
Plus, I've said it a few years ago when Real wanted to buy De Gea, that I can't understand why one club would want to change the GK of a winning team. Keylor Navas was great for Real Madrid and was definitely not a problem for the team, but the club insisted in changing him, first with De Gea and then successfully with Courtois, which is shocking to me. Why even consider taking a risk when it is unnecessary?
It's not too late to improve and turn everything in his favor, but I wouldn't be very confident as a Real Madrid fan with him in goal.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
I do think he was poor for both of Messi’s goals, and he definitely should have been prepared for the second one. I was referring to the type of blunder he made with his national team recently, which is more of a brainfart or error of judgement than a goalkeeper blunder that occurs due to lack of ability. That said, based on that video, it seems he’s no stranger to that type of errors as well.

Re: Thibaut Courtois
I understand. Agreed, Thimmy, but as you can see, he had more of these kind of brain farts in the past. Can't say for sure he won't continue to make a bad habit of them.
