it's so hard to tell if a GK can become world class.. some argue it's the craziest position to play, but like every promising youngster time will tell if he can reach that so called Pantheon.

He is at Madrid for a medical, it sounds like he will spend the next season at Atletico Madrid.

but damn that was fast, Chelsea has not even announced his signing and a loan deal seems to be finalizing soon.

I dont understand Atletico, they have a young gk in Joel to build up, Asenjo backing up, yet they loan a wonderkid that they will see returning to chelsea very soon... that's retarded imo.

I am pretty sure he will stay at Atletico for more then one season, 2-3 years and who knows maybe even longer. Cech is still relatively young for a keeper, he will be Chelsea #1 for long time and it would be while before Courtois time comes.

In the meantime Courtois gets the chance to develop and play on a regular basis at one of the best leagues in the world. Atletico would get a GK who they rate very highly, and were hopeful of signing him. So they get the GK who they initially wanted.

maybe from where you sit, it's a good opportunity to see a player you own growing.

But if i was a pathetico fan, i would be raging a little bit, they wont get any economic out of him long term. There is much more value in building up Joel, who is another of their talent in the line of Asenjo and De gea.

What happened to Asenjo? When Atletico signed there were some buzz about him being a youngster with huge future. Why aren't they using him?

His form dropped considerably at some point, and De Gea came from behind and never looked back. Asenjo had enormous promise as well, but he didnt live up to his own hype.

Not really. I never understood Asenjo hype. His only asset was that he was the youngest GK starting for a primera division side (Valladolid), but he had litle else to show. His goal tally at Valladolid was quite bad, and while he isn't a bad GK, he isn't great either. He lacks some size and is average in many ways. Then, two very bad injuries made him go backwards.

One goal conceded in 6 games and he had nothing to do with it.

He's hardly having anything to do because he can actually organize his defense unlike Casillas. And I've watched every single one of his games bar the last 2.

He is an excellent goalkeeper with very good awareness. but I am far too biased for Asenjo since I have supported him for a long time now.

Btw, to people who dont know, Asenjo is injured and he wont be back for quite some time now.

I so dont agree with you thats its not even funny. Yes he does make some costly mistakes at times, which is the reason why De Gea took over. But he is still brilliant, and I assure you he will prove everyone wrong.
