Re: The Official Dwayne Wade <<<<<< you thread
Rose had a meniscectomy which is a removal of the meniscus, partial or fully. Stupid and desperate move from Rose. Could really hurt his knee down the line.

I don't think comparing him to Roy is fair anyway, Roy had degenerate knees as bad as Rose is he's still nowhere near Roy.

Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Dani from what I understand it was a very minor tear, they cited Mcdermott as having an identical tear and he was back to practice in 3 weeks.
Obviously Mcdermott doesn’t have the history Rose has, for a more high profile comparison it's apparently similar to what Westbrook had and he was back in a month.
The tear doesnt really matter, relatively speaking..its about what they did to get him back on the court. If what Freeza said is true, its a grave mistake.
Westbrook being back early was a miracle. Because he didnt remove anything, he had it sawn back together.

Out of interest because I don't know much about these things what would be the difference between a complete removal and a partial removal?

From what I can read about it, it increases the risk of knee joint degeneration with a complete removal giving the highest risk of degeneration.

Re: The Official Dwayne Wade <<<<<< you thread
The simplest way to put it;
If you tear your meniscus, traditionally its been a pretty tricky operation.
If you remove the torn section, obviously you no longer feel the pain of the torn area and you can get back to playing much faster, as quickly as 2 weeks in some cases but safe estimates is about a month.
The downside is, the rest of the meniscus is obviously thinner and once it wears down over time you get the two bones of the lower leg and the big femur of the upper leg rubbing against each other with no shock absorption (which the meniscus provides) and it becomes very painful and arthritis nearly always sets in. Once that happens, playing becomes very hard, sometimes impossible and in your later life its very likely you have to have a knee replacement.
If you chose to stitch the torn section back together, its a difficult process as I said. If you go back to more than 2 years ago, you sew it back together but always its almost impossible to do it perfectly and there is always some section usually at the ends of the tear which you cannot get to hold together and therefore heal. Recently, new methods have been found and you can actually hold it all together quite well. Either way this method takes a longer time to heal compared to removing the torn section, in Rose case you would imagine he wouldnt be back until next season. But the plus side obviously is you keep your meniscus and wont suffer arthritis (and the problems that causes) and even with today's methods the stitch acts like another fibre in the meniscus and makes it less likely to tear.
So overall, you have to make a choice between long term and short term. I understand maybe Rose feels like time is running out anyway, so why not just do it...but man...like I said, the problems is can cause down the road.
I hope he hasnt removed any, or if he has as little as humanly possible.

Cheers Dani, if he has removed any it's quite the departure from "I want to go to meetings and my kids graduation without having problems ". Not that I felt that there was anything wrong with that but it's quite the change of heart if so.

Not really surprising Love struggled tbh, he needs to be given the ball in effective places and without Lebron and Kyrie whose going to give it to him?

They looked really good earlier in the year but have looked like crap recently sadly. If they can't beat Philly it's a new low.

Going to OT, been a really great game IMO. Harden and Lebron going at it and both teams seem to dislike each other somehow
