Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
I think Allegri is underrated. Everyone disrespects him because he had no buisness being in the ring with Pacman...but he is a B fighter, not elite but more than capable. He beat Provo in a tough tough fight. He deserves more respect, I dont even respect him enough to spell his name right.
I really liked his plan for this fight, he gave himself the best chance he could. This is how you fight Khan...high pressure, high volume, high work rate and throw the looping hook. Hit Khan many times with it.
I think Khan struggled because Allegri is taller and bigger than him and he moves around like a smaller guy. Usually Khan can throw punches when the other fighter is still out of range because of his height, but whenever he thrw Allegri could still throw. Plus Khan likes to throw a combo and come out of the pocket, use his speed to win points and then use his foot work to move away...Allegri followed him as soon as he took a step back, cut the ring and used his own foot speed to get back on Khan and put pressure. Khan was not happy in there, thats for sure.
But overall, Khan obviously won. Khan beat him to the punch, used his 1-2 and hit him with the clean shots. Allegri's problem was he didnt have the power to stun Khan, follow up and overwhelm him with volume and win the round. His pressure was effective, but not to the point of winning rounds. As I always said, you cant win fights by walking forward, not landing and getting hit (Manny) and while it wasnt quite that, he didnt do enough to win rounds. But Allegri impressed me, he didnt try and out box but put forward a good gameplan.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
btw I scored the fight 7 rounds to 5 for Khan.
Alot closer than some cards but there were 2 or 3 rounds in there which normally I wouldnt score for Algeri because he lacked clean punches but Khan literally did nothing the whole round, who else can I give it but the guy who at least throws punches and makes the other guy defend himself? If Khan back with just a couple of clean pot shots, would have gave them rounds to him. I think 8 (or 6, cant remember which) and 10 are the ones I am thinking about.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Spot on with everything. Reached the same conclusion as well.
In a way, it showed how far Khan has come when he won despite putting in a poor performance. But it is also a worrying sign as I mentioned because that if Algieri had more power, Khan would have been stunned in a lot of rounds. Algieri did well overall. Think he knew that he has very little chance if he wanted to depend on points. His plan nearly worked as well so credit to him.
I was biased so I gave 9-3 to khan lol but quite few rounds were very close and it feels like the judges awarded Algieri points based on what you said in the last post.
But what next for Khan now? I'll stick to my words that he needs to fight Brook next.

He has done it again. 13 wins, 13 Kos. Finished it in 2 rounds again lmao.
No offense to whoever Kevin Johnson is but he looked drunk from the 1st second. Hearing he went 12 rounds with Klitschko
Dani if you got time to see this. Tell me if you see talent or not
In other news, Brook retained against Frankie Gavin. Impressively apparently.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
All I'm going to say from the Khan fight is that I would wager a chunk of dosh for Kell or Floyd to beat him.
Chris is a warrior though last 3 fights gone the distance and taken some real hits, a shame he has no power at all even against a chin like Khans.
Anthony Joshua the hype is annoying as bleep, reminds me of when Frank Warren was stat padding for Khan. Sure he's got power and an freakishly athletic body for a HW but he's fighting bums, Johnson came in not looking to win hell he didn't even bring a team in from America for training.
Still though Wilder has gone down more or less the same path so you can't be too harsh, but please have him fight someone decent instead of these bums for me to buy into him.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Johnson was always average but now he is fighting for a paycheck. He lost 5 of the last 6 before this fight, forget about happened vs Vitali, he went the distance but was dominated and it was over 5 years ago. He is a bum.
A.J has talent but its really too hard for me to see how much when he is fighting human punching bags.
He is young, he doesn't have to fight a contender...but I wont learn anything against these guys. David Price, Chris Arreola, Johnathon Banks, someone like that would be the next step I guess.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
RG, my opinion on Joshua is more or less this. We just dont know yet, he isnt getting tested in different types of fights.
All his fights are the same, he comes forward and walks people down..hits them and they run away, he stalks them into its over. Better fighters will have different game plans.

Yea that's what I am really looking forward to seeing. Someone who takes him to 12 rounds. I have yet to see Joshua try and defend. I think his promoters are building his win numbers so they can get bigger fights. He fights every month atm

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Yeah, they have to build his profile up and gain interest from all over. Just like Deontay Wilder...knock people out over and over again and people start talking.
Nobody would care about Joshua if he displayed alot of skills and dominated all rounds, but went the distance every time.

Last fight vs Stiverne was the only guy I consider credible and Stiverne isnt that good and he went all 12 rounds with him.
Everyone else is a total bum, no better than what Joshua is fighting really. Only a couple guys are step up, the likes of Audley Harrison (who we all know sucks) and Malik Scott who I never actually seen but at least been in the ring with guys like Lepai and Chisora.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Cotto stops Geale in the 4th, smashed him with a left hook before Geale got up but was quickly put away. Great knockdown.
Im a big Cotto fan, favourite fighter no doubt. But I have to admit I dont like this catchweight/artificial weight limit trend he is taking part in.
MW limit is 160, they fighting for the 160 title...but because Cotto is the star of the fight, he says Geale cant come in over 157. Geale obviously weight drained, then come in the ring at 180 something after rehydration but the damage is already done. Geale was already struggling to make 160 in his previous fights...157 killed him.
I understand, Cotto is 147-150 ideally, he is a small middlewight..but this is where your fighting..aslong as the guy comes in under the 160 limit then that should be fine. Starving him ruins it.
Obviously Cotto isnt the first and isnt the last.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Cotto has turned into a semi businessman now, clever with his fights which he kind of deserves. After all in his prime he fought almost everyone.
Poor Geale I liked him but he's 0-3 now on HBO, but he was there for the payday.
Funny when he was talking about GGG, stay well clear Miguel We know you don't really want any of that.
Canelo vs Cotto straight up 50/50 in my book, hopefully it happens.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Meh, im not that convinced GGG would win so easily.
Never seen him chin checked by a big puncher yet and im quite sure Cotto can land on him.
The only question is can Cotto stay in the middle of the ring against him. If he runs away to ropes he gets worn out and dominated on a points decision or even stoppage. GGG would stalk him like Margarito did and wear him down. But if this new Cotto, more like the one who beat Marg the second time, can stay in the middle of the ring and try and outbox him, be first to the punch and catch him with a big left. Think he has a chance.
GGG is really great, but there are still question marks..his resume isnt impressive (because nobody wants to fight him). His best is against Geale, who Cotto just beat equally easily.

Maravilla announces retirement
As tribute I wanted the Maravilla documentary film on Netflix today, it's class I recommend it to all!
I'll never forget that fight with Junior, full 11 rounds of schooling then that last round

awful referee. Broner should be deducted points by now. More interested in holding and fouling. Referee has given him about 50 warnings

Looking real bad for Broner right now.
He needs to do something big to win this fight because Porter has him beat easily right now.

Lol that was a good punch. But too little too late.
Not impressed by either tbh. Average fight. Broner is nothing special.

Porter would ruin Khan mate.
And if Khan got hit by a Broner punch, he'd still asleep.
Bigger news to me is Andre Ward is back, time for GGG to stop calling out little guys and go fight Ward.

Porters boxing is well underrated, even by me I was surprised how well he used that jab. That jab gave Broner problems all night, silly pos glad he lost.

Agreed. I had AB winning this one because I assumed Porter the come forward fighter would be outboxed all night.
But Porter was better on the outside, used the jab and took advantage of the flat footed Broner all night.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
AB has always had suspect footwork imo and something is just not right in his head, he'd land 1 single good shot and then not follow it up every single time. Although I wasn't complaining because I wanted him to lose anyway . 147 is way too stacked anyways so AB should GTFO.
Good thing about this is how it makes Kell look even better, I really hope he gets a shot at Floyd.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
He has always had both those issues, its his stance and his desire to be like Floyd.
His style seems designed in a way to fight like Floyd has done the last like 4 or 5 years.
Standing in the pocket, shoulder roll, dont back up or chase, never throw more than 1 or 2 punches in a row, stand on the ropes and pot shot counter.
Look how wide Broner's feet are from each other, he stands in this dramatically wide base to generate power on punches but he gives up movement. So if someone can out jab him (Paulie M, Porter) or touch him up with bombs (like Maidana, Ponce De Leon a bit) he is in trouble because he cant move, cant use his legs. His offence is just like Floyd's in style, rarely puts punches together and pot shots.
The big difference is, Floyd has more speed, better timing, better accuracy and most importantly doesnt get hit like Broner can. Plus he can move if he has to.
I dont know why Broner would adopt this style in his early 20's. Floyd 10-15 years go fought a very different to style to now really.
And yeah Brook is legit. Khan ducking him is looking more ridicilous by the day.
