saw a lot of ppl mention loot boxes got nerfed in main game, i've had a lot of duplicates, got a duplicate legendary skin though and it gave me 200 coins for it, i'm at 575 atm or something, saving up for either the lucio frog skin or the hanzo wolf ones so besides the currency for that epic skin and duplicates i've probably gotten currency in about 3 boxes in 22 lvls

100 lootboxes and I got like 3000 gold. Got plenty of decent other cosmetics but 80 for 3 legendary skins worth of gold isn't worth it imo. I don't see people spending $1000+ on this game like League.

I think TF2, cant remember if its them or LoL first, but LoL propelled that model skyward.

the lootboxes conecpt has been part of web based money sucker games for a while (like a decade or more). I don't think it comes from triple A

CS I think really popularized it though. Some things you get out of CS lootboxes are worth serious money.

Prior to Battleborn's release, Gearbox promised that there would be no microtransactions in the game, and the DLC content unlocked by season passes would be available to everyone eventually. I paid for my season pass, and the only benefit that gave me was 5 days early access to the game's 26th character This kind of goodwill on the part of game developers really doesn't pay off. If Blizzard can get away with it, I'm sure they could've done it too. The game's got equipment, taunts and skins that people are grinding for. Why throw away an opportunity to earn tons of money with little to no consequence?

In fairness to Blizzard all the maps, modes and new characters they have planned will be completely free
