Arsenal v Beşiktaş
Arsenal v Beşiktaş, Wednesday 27th August 7.45pm, Champions League Play-off 2nd Leg, Emirates Stadium, Sky Sports 5
Giroud & Ramsey saved Arsenal on Saturday but are both missing v Beşiktaş
Asked on Tuesday afternoon whether or not winning the Champions League was still the ambition, Arsène Wenger responded bluntly: "Yes, of course.....but first we must qualify."
Beşiktaş travel from Istanbul to London with the hope of fulfilling "a dream, a hope" as coach Slaven Bilić put it ahead of the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Turkish side are aiming to join the European elite for the first time in 5 years, whilst Arsenal hope to make it 17 successive Champions League seasons.
"Experience plays a big part and we have a lot of it," Wenger told reporters. Wednesday sees a scenario in which Arsenal are familiar with. In recent seasons, the Gunners have seen off the likes of Twente, Celtic, Udinese and, most recently, Fenerbahçe. The 2011 trip to Udine, which brought about a scare or two - including a Wojciech Szczęsny penalty save from Antonio di Natale - was the closest Wenger's men came to failing en route to making the group stage. Wednesday's tie could be a similar, edge-of-the-seat night.
"Of course we are not the favourites. They are the favourites – they are Arsenal - but we have a dream, a hope," said Bilić.
The pressure is on Arsenal to deny Beşiktaş their dream.
Match Facts
* Arsenal have never conceded at home to a Turkish team and have never lost to one in 90 minutes.
* Beşiktaş have played 14 matches against English teams, losing seven, winning four and drawing three.

Kind of scared about this one. Not going into it with any confidence. No idea what our lineup will be. Not sure where any goals will come from.

Re: Arsenal v Beşiktaş
Before worrying about where the goals are coming from, we need to ensure that we don't concede any. Besiktas scoring one means we have to score two, so it's absolutely vital that we keep a cleansheet.
If we do that, then all we would need is one goal. That goal can come from anywhere - a tap in, screamer, set-piece, penalty, etc. You'd think guys like Cazorla, Ozil, Alexis, Chamberlain, Campbell and Podolski should be capable of that.
This is one of those games where the performance is irrelevant so long as we go through. Qualification is all that matters tomorrow.
My team would be:
Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Flamini, Wilshere; Campbell, Ozil, Chamberlain; Alexis

Yeah it's a weird one, we'll miss 3 of our best goalscorers... we need to be at our absolute best to score goals and if we manage to concede we're going to need 2 which will be an even bigger problem with the lack of goalscorers for this game.
I'm expecting to see this team:

Szczesny
Debuchy Mertesacker Koscielny Monreal
Flamini Wilshere
Alexis Özil Cazorla
Sanogo
Wilshere usually steps up in European competitions so expecting a good game from him. We better win, I don't really fancy the Europa League much.Debuchy Mertesacker Koscielny Monreal
Flamini Wilshere
Alexis Özil Cazorla
Sanogo

Re: Arsenal v Beşiktaş
I am shitting it. Don't know why.
Maybe the pressure is on too much because of our signings. Or the pressure of the absolute backlash by both the fans and the Media if we don't go through. But I am very nervous.
We really should be beating them convincingly but without Giroud, we are going to have trouble holding up the ball. Sanogo will do his best no doubt but he isn't the one to inspire confidence.
Hoping for an Ozil masterclass and our midfield should work better with Jack being a b2b and Flamini being a DM. More balanced than Ramshere.
Let's hope we don't concede.

Re: Arsenal v Beşiktaş
Got a bad feeling about this one, not sure who is going to score since Ramsey is out. Playing Sanogo right after coming back from injury will be something Wenger will do and I hope it wont backfire on him.
Wenger will try to show the world Sanogo is a wc player and Arsenal dont need a striker.

With suspensions and injured players, adding to the team not finding it's chemistry yet. Basically what we need is a few players to come to the fore and step up and win us the game.
Özil pls

Re: Arsenal v Beşiktaş
Bilic has balls and Besiktas will approach the game like 1st leg, pressing and go 50-50, could play to our advantage though just hope our Giroudless team wont butcher those crucial chance

Do not like the lineup. Will have to wait for the subs and hope the game is not past us by then.
