Markovic vs Iturbe
Cost Liverpool and Roma around the same amount. Similar age. Occupy same positions and play similar roles. Both had a stint in Portugal for the big two (Porto/Benfica).
Who is the better player?

90% haven't seen either play more than 10 times at best. 95% even.

Yeh, I've seen them play a few times. Seen some youtube clips too.
From what I've seen, I'd take Iturbe. Much better dribbler and he's similar to Messi.

Who doesn't have time for Hellas Verona and Benfica? Two European heavyweights there.

Benfica have more European pedigree than Chelsea, in case you didn't know mate.

Re: Markovic vs Iturbe
i have been following Iturbe since 2010's SA u20s, dude is a beast on his day.He has great technique and combines it with goat athleticism, too bad he didn't get enough playing time at Porto.Last time I watched him was with River Plate, can't say I followed Verona this season.Could well end up as just a promising youngster, let's see how he does in Roma.

Better start watching Nottinham Forest then, since they've got such good European Pedigree.
People do not watch teams for their history, they watch teams for the current players.

Benfica have been in 3 European semi-finals in the past 4 years.
Only Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and Atletico and indeed Chelsea can match that.

I was counting the 60s triumph as well
If we conveniently ignore those, we may as well not call Real Madrid's CL win "La Decima" , instead "La Quinta"
Point was, Benfica are a European giant. And soooooo many of the players in the richer teams in bigger leagues in Europe have come from Benfica/Porto and Liga Sagres.

Re: Markovic vs Iturbe
Your point makes no sense.
Benfica have spent three of the last four season in the Europa league. Chelsea, on the other hand, have spent only one of those in the Europa league, which, we won, beating Benfica. Thats not the only time in the last four seasons we've won against them either. The rest of the time, we've been in the CL knockouts.
Hey, I could go back over the past decade, since, Chelsea have been in Semi finals of the CL a insane amount of times (More than any other team, I believe). But yes, lets look at the 60s to work out who present is the better European team.
Benfica are not presently heavyweights of Europe (I'd aruge only Chelsea, Barca, Real, Atletico Bayern and perhaps a few more are).

Re: Markovic vs Iturbe
I only saw Markovic vs Juve and he was impressive. He has excellent speed on the counter and makes driving runs through midfield without being dispossessed or doing something stupid when it's time to release the ball.
Iturbe was part of an incredible Hellas Verona midfield trio this season - Romulo & Jorginho being the other two. All three worked superbly to feed Luca Toni who was somehow nearly the Serie A top scorer. Iturbe plays a more advanced role than the other two (out on the wing). He can score, but he's also industrious and won't laze about up front when the team needs to plug holes at the back and soak up pressure.

Bah Gawd Markovic - Iturbe became Pool - Chelsea
I love those territorial Goal Legacy gang wars
Anyways, I've not seen that much of both, so I think this would be a solid discussion in 6 months time when both have some serious game time for clubs GL actually spectate a lot.

Would you say watching either of them for 5 games is enough? Surely a pretty informative opinion can be put together having seen someone for 5 games or so.

Re: Markovic vs Iturbe
People sometimes have shit seasons in otherwise good careers, 5 games is unfair imo
half a season and we could safely say one is better than the other at this stage in their careers if there's a big difference.

Re: Markovic vs Iturbe
Markovic is a mediocre player, his first touch is very poor. His shot is horrible.
Iturbe is similar to Messi, great ball control and good shot.
