Diego Costa - Page 16 Empty Re: Diego Costa

Post by Shed Mon Dec 08, 2014 5:28 am

Well when the article said he'd only scored twice since early October (the Arsenal match) I was a bit surprised, but on looking into it further I discovered he's played 5 Prem games since then, in which he's scored 2. Hardly a huge slump. His numbers from his unbelievable early-season form were always going to drop off.

yeah that's what I thought. If you've considered the time taken off for international break plus injury that's not too bad. IIRC he did come pretty close to scoring on a couple of occasions in the last few matches

Mourinho on Costa's performance:

"Diego wants to improve his condition, the confidence was not high and the condition is not the best but he wanted to use the game to chase that."

"He had lots of runs, lots of movement, always wanting the ball and to associate with the wingers and Cesc Fabregas. I saw him better than against Newcastle or Sunderland and this game was important for him."

Apparently Mikel has scored more Champions League goals this season than Diego Costa Proud

José Mourinho believes Diego Costa is unfairly being booked because referees have a 'certain image' of Chelsea striker:
Chelsea manager José Mourinho believes Costa is being unfairly treated by officials
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2873727/Jose-Mourinho-believes-Diego-Costa-unfairly-booked-referees-certain-image-Chelsea-striker.html

"You have to ask Mr Foy [if Costa's card was wattanted]"

"Mr Foy, tell the guys please. Diego Costa is crying because you gave him a yellow card! And these guys are asking me why."

"I remember two (of Costa’s yellows) that are understandable and fair. Against Newcastle and Liverpool. Other times he touches one guy and it is a yellow card. Everything he does is a yellow card."

"Why? I don’t know. I think when he was at Atletico he created a certain image and people don’t believe that he can change. People don’t understand that he is intelligent enough to understand and to change - because he (has) changed."

"In England, normally referees are very good. And more than the referees, the fans - they are very fair in that analysis. They don’t like the elbows, the spitting. And he learned. He had lessons on it. Not just me or my staff, also people like Fabregas, Azpilicueta - the ones that speak Spanish well with him and they have his ear. The guy is clean."

‘Nice guy’ Diego Costa determined to be Chelsea's leading man, says Ivanovic:
Chelsea star Branislav Ivanovic has lifted the lid on life alongside striker Diego Costa
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/547055/Diego-Costa-Branislav-Ivanovic-Chelsea-Talk

"[Costa] knows how to control himself very well."

"He never sleeps in the game, he's not quiet, he wants to be a star, and he wants to be the player around which everything happens in the game."

"It's good for the team when he's working and you can see he is always trying to win duels and look positive on the pitch. He is set up like this for the team, it's his style."

"He's a very nice and funny guy. He likes to make jokes and I think when he improves his English he'll have even more influence in the squad."

A striker that we've missed since Drogba took the malaria back in 2011. He was huge in 2012 CL, but he was clearly past his prime, it was just a performance similar to Zidane in WC 2006.

I still think Drogba is better but the difference is not that big, perhaps Drogba is more technically gifted and more genius and was able to score out of nowhere, but Costa is more hard working and willing to sacrifice himself. He's the perfect striker for Chelsea and Mou.

Apparently the appeal hearing is tomorrow and it'll all be decided either way in time for the City game.

Hopefully it won't affect our match against City and we'll win with Remy/Didier.

Now we'll either listen Mou's conspiracy theories until the end of the season or he'll miss every press conference we have in England (he did something similar at Real).

Other than City, he misses Villa away and Everton at home. So not exactly an ideal time to be without him for.

Manuel Pellegrini hopes Chelsea striker Diego Costa becomes a changed man following stamp ban:
The Man City boss and his side will benefit from the striker's absence tomorrow, but says: “He does not need to do that kind of thing because he is a top player"
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manuel-pellegrini-hopes-chelsea-striker-5072111

"Maybe he is not an easy character, but I hope with this punishment that it will be a good thing for him for him to change a little bit in the future."
