Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
honestly think Dembélé was coming back from offside for that goal
they didn't show a proper replay but I'm fairly certain

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
You have VAR in the game and they don't flag this offside?
No commentator even mentionign it?
What the hell

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
It's because it went off the defender. Good call.

It's not a pass from the defender. It's a deflection.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
Active Play
“Gaining an advantage by being in that position”
means:
Playing a ball that rebounds to him off a post or
crossbar, having previously been in an offside position.
Playing a ball, that rebounds to him off an opponent,
having previously been in an offside position.
https://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/5.%20law%2011_554.pdf
It's a blatant offside goal and it's shocking referees don't even call it with the help of VAR

The midfield France fielded today is the best combo they could use in the world cup

Other than Umtiti... that's not the back 4 for France. Sidibe-Varane-Umtiti-Mendy.
Lucas and Pavard are not very good going forward. It's a big difference.
Other than that... Giroud will start over Dembele.

Agreed, if you are going midfield 3 anyway. NZonzi instead of Tolisso is too defensive IMO.

Pogba really is just a waste of space in this current form. The guy is laughable, a clown. Needs to be benched to get him thinking.
Sad to see what has become of him. What the $$$$$$ have done to him.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
Physical players will look poor in games right before a WC... they can't be physical as they don't want to get injured. So they look like they're a step off.
Kante was meh today too.
The attacking players tend to look the best as they don't get tackled much lol.
Italy actually played France fairly physical... but not so much the other way around.
These games aren't that useful other than fitness.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
Pogba was booed when he came off. Deschamps asked about it and said 'better not to focus on it but I would've preferred it didn't happen.' Didn't look happy at all when asked about it.

That would be a neat excuse were it not for the fact Pogba has been looking equally shitty all season

He's been very good with NT all season, which is what DD cares about... and myself. I care little about how Mou uses him at Man U.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
Pogba is not bad at all, I'm sure he'll play well at the WC. Mourinho is a bad influence.
He can't have many defensive duties assigned though. Suits him well to play alongside a workhorse like Kante.

Germany lineup vs Austria:
1 Neuer - 3 Hector, 6 Khedira, 10 Özil, 16 Rüdiger, 18 Kimmich, 19 Sané, 20 Brandt, 21 Gündogan, 25 Petersen, 26 Süle
Neuer's first match since 8-9 months. Poor Ter Stegen

Apparently so. Although I imagine it's the hale that tipped the whole thing over.
Game will be starting either at 19.15h or not at all.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
for some strange reason, England NT games are the most boring games to watch
It's amazing how boring to watch they are
not sure why that is, it's not like they play significanty worse, or uglier, than other teams

I think it may have to do with the NT game atmosphere in Wembley

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
It's always a pre-season friendly atmosphere at Wembley. These games draw fans who are either first timers, young kids and people just there to see Wembley. Whereas the more vocal England support can't really afford to go.
The atmosphere at Elland Road for our game against Costa Rica next week will be a lot different.

Has the Wembley monopoly fallen then ?
That's fantastic news for the England NT

For pre-tournament warm-ups only, I think. Before Euro 2016 they played at the Stadium of Light and the Emptihad.
Regular qualifiers are always going to be played at Wembley.

Re: Pre World Cup Friendlies Thread
I think it's absolutely vital for the connection between English club fans and the NT that the NT tours the stadia of the country for qualifier games too.
