Pochettino - "Obviously I would love one day to be the Real Madrid manager but I have to go step by step. I need to keep learning. Real Madrid are a great club and I have just started my managerial career. I have been in this just seven or eight years. But In the future, why not? Of course I would like to be the Real Madrid manager. Real Madrid are the best team in the world."
confirmed then

Re: Pochettino new coach of Spurs
As long as Perez is the president it doesnt matter who the coach is. Either way Flo is choosing who plays and who doesnt and it basically makes it impossible for the coach to implement his tactics in a way he would want it.
He was forced to put on all there attacking superstars (CR, Bale, Benz & James) which made their midfield basically nonexistent. I'm sure Rafa himself, if he had freedom of choice, wouldve put on Casemiro alongside Modric/Kroos which wouldve surely worked way better altogether.

Re: Pochettino new coach of Spurs
It didnt against Sevilla. If Rafa had COMPLETE freedom. Lucas and Casemiro would be the first players on the team sheet and we would be ultra defensive. Barely mustering attacks. I think like Mou he is being asked to step out of his comfort zone and he cant handle it. The whole appointment baffled me tbh. You cant go from posession footy to sit back and counter. We dont have those (Xabi, ADM) players anymore. The ones we have are (Isco, Kroos, Modric) you dont ask them to run up and down, they wont be able to handle it. I remember Pep back when Mou started getting the better of him complained that the tempo was too fast for his players. Nothing bad with that but he was able to recognise their flaws and build the team and tactics around the style most of his players were best at.

He got sacked because he put Espanlol in the relegation zone. Premier League is his level.

Re: Pochettino new coach of Spurs
tbh when eventually he gets sacked at Spurs, I can see him coming to one of the BL clubs. Clubs like Leverkusen, Wolfburg or Mönchengldbach would love to have a coach like Poc.

I haven't rated him so far, but if he delivers a top-4 finish the title, I gotta say that well done.

The beauty of this is that if they finish outside the top 4, well that's spurs for you. If they do then Pochettino>>>>ES wrote:Can't wait to bump this once they finish outside of top 4
In any case even if they dont do it, I think there is a very noticeable difference in the spurs mentality that has completely changed the team and the perception of the team.

Re: Pochettino new coach of Spurs
An incredible gesture by an incredible man
Didn't think his stock could get any higher in North London.
I think the funny thing here too is that I believe Pochettino would be a perfect Arsene replacement when he's done. I wonder if Pochettino would ever make the switch. Obviously, he doesn't have the ties to Tottenham that those on the Tottenham side of North London do, being Argentine and all, but he is very loved at Tottenham and I think he cares about Tottenham as well.
It's curious to me to see whether that might prevent him from going to Arsenal, if they came calling. Which I would try and do if I were Arsenal.
Kind of similar to how I wonder if Pep would turn down a job at Chelsea. He obviously would Madrid, but Chelsea he has no real ties against, being Catalan. Just personal experience and bad blood.

Re: Pochettino new coach of Spurs
So his transfer record this season has been awful:
Wanyama: Great so far, only successful transfer
Janssen: Flop, in spite of plenty of minutes he has not been able to score from open play. Gets bonus points for effort, though.
Sissoko: Barely getting any minutes, panic purchase on last transfer week, totally overpriced
N'Koudou: Pretty much the same as above for a bit cheaper, should've convinced Chadli to stay and compete for minutes
Spurs have failed to build on their previous season and in fact have taken a step back with these guys, for instance by bringing on Sissoko they have stunted Dier's development as a good CM and now he plays where he is much weaker, at CB. They have also failed to cover their weaknesses, mainly a thin bench for the FB positions and a CF alternative.
