Re: Summer of 2014
Continuing the pursuit but also mention Rojo and Bertrand as alternatives, not chance of Rodriguez apparently.

La Liga outfit Sevilla demanding in excess of £20m for the defender
Liverpool are refusing to give up on their pursuit of Alberto Moreno – but are prepared to look at other targets if they are unable to agree a deal for the Sevilla left back.
The Reds tabled a £16m bid for the Spanish international last month, but have since been left frustrated as negotiations with his club have progressed slowly, with the La Liga outfit demanding in excess of £20m for the defender.
Liverpool have long suspected Sevilla are looking to spark an auction for the 21-year-old by flushing out interest from elsewhere, with Real Madrid and Tottenham both linked in recent weeks.
They have been left bemused by persistent reports emanating from Spain, which have suggested the deal was on the brink of completion
Nonetheless, they remain keen to thrash out a deal for Moreno, whom they view as the ideal addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad, with a big season of domestic and European football looming large.
They have, however, begun to draw up a list of others targets, in the event that deal fails to materialise.
With Guilherme Siqueira, a one-time target, having moved to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand is the likeliest alternative, though Marcos Rojo of Sporting Lisbon has impressed for Argentina at the World Cup, and could come into consideration.
Ricardo Rodriguez, the Switzerland left back, is unlikely to be targeted, though.
Liverpool believe it would cost around £30m to prise the 21-year-old away from VFL Wolfsburg, and are unprepared to pay that for a talented but unproven full back.

Re: Summer of 2014
How in the world is Moreno worth 20m but Rodriguez considered to be unproven and 30m being too expensive? O_O He was arguably the best fullback in the world this season, and is continuing that form for the Swiss. Unreal.
If Bale is worth 100m, Sanchez could be considered to be close to 70m, really. If Sanchez had a bit more tactical freedom, as he would with Rodgers, he would be even better than he's proven to be over the last few years with club and country.

We apparently rate Moreno at £15-16m, not £20m. That's half the price being quote for Rodriguez which explains why the club don't believe he'd be value for the money spent.
And Suarez is worth how much more (than the suggest 100m) as well? It's all relative.El Cujo wrote:McAgger wrote:Is Sanchez worth 70m?

Re: Summer of 2014
BR's recent interview
I just hope that the deals dont get dragged on till the end of the window. All the huss and fuss about early signings seem to be in smoke. Or probably WC is playing some part that the deals are not really materialising, but then how many players we are targetting who are playing in WC except Lallana, Shaqiri and probably Schanzzzz and anyone else, serious links?“What we do need to do to ensure we kick on. We need to ensure we continue with our thinking in terms of the types of players we’re going to bring in,” he said.
“We want to bring in players who are hungry. They must have the ambition to want to come in and succeed here.
“We need players who there can be no doubts about their quality.”
He added, “We’re in a position now where we’re going straight into the group stage of the Champions League and we’re going into the Premier League next season with an expectation and a belief that we can win the league.
“We need players that have those qualities. That belief, players who are willing to improve and who are hungry to improve themselves.
“If we can get a number of signings with that profile then we can go on and build on last season.”
He said, “This year the squad will change around. We will need to change the team regularly over the course of the season in order to keep the efficiency and the energy in the team.
“Those players who are coming in need to be capable starters. They have to be to the level that we require to perform. That is absolutely key for us this summer.”

Key point really. Liverpool are looking for quality rather than quantity this time and rightfully so.

You must be new here.
The only "quality" player we've been linked too is currently a back-up target for Adam Lallana for 25m+ pounds ffs...........
Our version of "quality" is showing one good year of promise and paying double the amount of value they're actually worth.

Re: Summer of 2014
More rumours about Suarez leaving this summer, as expected. However this one is kind of interesting...Barcelona have supposedly offered Sanchez + 55m for Suarez.
It really feels like Suarez leaving is inevitable, whether it be this summer or next, and I think you would be hard-pressed to find a deal better than this one. Cash alone is not going to be good enough for Liverpool because you still have to try and replace the WC talent that is leaving. I think that Sanchez is a WC talent and just entering his prime footballing years.
If that Sanchez + 55m deal is on the table for real I would probably take it. Obviously I would prefer that Suarez stay with us for life, but it just doesn't look like a reality and he's going to be facing even more problems from the English press now that he essentially sealed their WC exit.
Adding 55m to our kitty could be helpful too in finding a WC midfielder to shoulder Gerrard's load, and maybe get Liverpool to consider going after Ricardo Rodriguez instead of Moreno. I would also still love to see us snatch up James Rodriguez, but I doubt Monaco sells him.
I know Rodgers is keen on the diamond 4 - 4 - 2 or the 4 - 3 - 3, but I think with the right midfielder pick-up we could run a nice 4 - 2 - 3 - 1:
Is there another top class box to box guy out there that Liverpool has been linked with at all that could work a double pivot with Henderson?

Echo has denied any sort swap deal with Barca .We are talking with Barca for Sanchez though
Liverpool have been in contact with Barcelona in recent weeks to register their interest in Chile striker Alexis Sanchez, who is currently on duty at the World Cup.
However, during those discussions the Catalan outfit haven't given any indication that they are plotting a swoop for Suarez.

I hope Rodgers watched Blind mark Sanchez right out of the game today and steps up his interest in him. Would be so great to have and he'd thrive in our system (on top of which providing insulation for Gerrard).

I dunno, I thought Blind was a bit slow & late in the game against Chile. Committed a lot of fouls.

Re: Summer of 2014
why not he gtfo and shut his mouth...25mSevilla president Jose Castro will not stand in the 21-year-old's way if he wants to go, but he insists the La Liga club are under no pressure to sell and will not budge on their valuation.
The Spanish club are believed to be demanding £25million for Moreno, who has also been linked with Liverpool's Premier League rivals Tottenham.
"It's true that there is interest from a number of clubs, above all Liverpool, in him, but we haven't had proper conversations about selling him," Castro said.
"Signing any player from this club has a price and we will decide that price. If Alberto Moreno has to stay at the club he will stay but if a club pays the amount we think is big enough for him to leave, he will leave. But there is no pressure.
"We haven't reached an agreement, but talks haven't broken down. We'll wait and see what happens. If Liverpool are interested in the player and pay the right amount, he will be sold," added Castro, in an interview with Spanish newspaper ABC.

Good news about Alberto. We will get to see if he improves any further playing for them. He should at least increase his value so that we can sell him for higher fee, if that was the point of buying him.
That Schanchez thread is epic lol
Btw, this kid Depay looks a good player, seems like another player that could emerge as a top name in Erdvisie in 1-2 seasons.

Re: Summer of 2014
Depay is already a top player in the Eredivisie. If he's not gone by next summer international scouting isn't doing its job. He's only just turned 20 and he's already terrorizing that league. I would absolutely love to have him at Anfield, but I think there are already links from Manchester United, and I get the feeling they're going to be getting a bunch of the best Dutch talents while LVG is there.

It's this sort of attitude that's holding us down as a club but...
We put in a couple mil extra last season and get Eriksen for Alberto. How much more of a difference would that have made last season? We pretty much had no creativity / flow in the final third when Suarez (and Sturridge) were having off days. Fatigue was an issue, too. Alberto was like no impact off the bench, and wasn't even on the bench at crunch time of the season. Bar Coutinho and Gerrard (who's let's face it, is declining / his age/fitness is slowly becoming an issue) we have no creativity in midfield. Henderson has slowly grown in this regard, but he still lacks that natural spark to break open a defence like how Coutinho/Eriksen would of done so.
We've not been interested in Rakitic or Cesc Fabregas at all before their moves; two VERY GOOD players that would of actually transformed us into a world class/genuine* team. We had no interest at all. And for what reasons? We're prepared to splash 25m on Lallana ffs, and I mean no disrespect but he's half the player of the other two. And that's not an exageration. We were about to spend 20m on an unproven left back in Moreno. I'm genuinely confused and worried about how we're going about this. Yeah the World Cup is currently on, and the window isn't even open yet, but we've shown as a club we're ready to throw cash around / been scouting players and we're not really going for what we need which is pretty much quality. If we're afraid to pay higher wages for quality, well, I don't know what to say. You pay for what you get normally, unless you're Liverpool it seems.
Just looking at our rivals... Chelsea have already improved with 2 massive signings which pretty much makes them title favourites easily. United will improve with LVG. Arsenal has shown over the years that they'll always be a top 4 side and have just came off a trophy winning season so they'll probably have the hunger for more success. City will no doubt splash the cash soon and are champions. Top 4 next season is going to be very tight again next season. We need quality in to get rid of the risk of slipping back out of the top 4.
*we're still very much unproven, as good as we were last year. Players will come back from fatigue from the world cup, we have more games to play, games will be more physically demanding now we're in the CL and I'm not sure if the squad is mentally/physically enough to do this as we haven't been in the CL in a while. Yeah, we were in and out of the Europa, but we never really took that seriously...

I hope they sign James Rodriguez. I know I've been pushing him for a while, but IMO he's been the best player at the WC so far and I would even do a straight swap of Suarez for him if Monaco were into it.
