M99 wrote:Alberto Gilardino has declared himself ready, willing able to represent Italy at this summer's World Cup, declaring: "Cesare Prandelli knows what I can do."

The 31-year-old Genoa striker netted twice in Sunday's Serie A draw with Udinese and is in no doubt that he could do a job for the Azzurri in Brazil.

"I feel very good," he told reporters after the game. "I want to continue in this way for the rest of the season.

"Cesare Prandelli knows me well. He knows what I could give to the national team.

"But I'm not saying anything. As long as I keep scoring goals for my squad, that's fine."

Tom will be pleased.

Hope he's doing some mental exercises because he'll sure need to stay mentally strong when he's Playing in the World Cup final watching Italy from home on his Television.

I was thinking ... Roma not so lucky . in 2004 2nd place after to have faced the best Milan of Ancelotti era (imo) ,in 2010 2nd place after to have faced the best Inter of  Mourinho treble season , now 2nd place after to have faced the best Juve of Conte . Capello,Ranieri and Garcia ,3 different coaches against the 3 bigs  but same history

Anyway the sense  to sack Di Francesco for Malesani ? Laughing

Ah if you didn't know Alberto Malesani is the coach with best international palmares ( Coppa Uefa)  in this Serie A after Rafael Benitez Laughing

But how can you say they're unlucky because of that ?

So were Liverpool 'unlucky' not to win the title in 08-09 because they had to battle a great United side ?

It doesnt make much sense imo.

unlucky is not right word probably. Anyway it was a stupid matter forget it : )

The 2013/14 Calcio Saga: Episode III - Page 2 V3pFpuC

Amazing Serie A of Parma so far.
It ' ll struggle against the Milanesi club for the Europe.
12th consecutive result for Parma , not even the Parma '90s had achieved this record, and today even Schelotto scored   Laughing

but to be fair it is not so surprised if you have  Antonio Cassano, a player who can make still the difference in this Serie A in brillant form as his coetaneous Gilardino, and if you have Donadoni as coach too.
Solid coach ,  he guaranteed consistent results until now also playing good football. Only Napoli can be considered the true stain of his career.
Personally I thought Berlusconi , sensible to former Milan players, would have considered as coach for rossoneri.

I is unlucky because it happened to them three different times against three different teams.

In two cases, Milan and Inter, those teams did not challenge for the scudetto in the years after.

Donandoni's reputation was somehow poisoned by the Euros. He is starting to show promise as a coach no though.

I don't think we're unlucky. Just unfortunate that when we actually have a team capable of challenging for the title, there's always someone else bigger and better. One could even say that's not even unfortunate, but just down to Roma's limitations as a club.

Hamsik is such a gem to watch. I really really want him at Liverpool.  Embarassed

Forza wrote:Inter has signed Vidic apparently. Is this a good deal for them?

He's been past it for the last 2 years really.

Could or could not pay off as the tempo of the Serie A is slower than the PL, but not too sure if it's the right deal for Inter. Vidic would be demanding quite fairly large wages I think.

Juve and Milan interested in Nani according to Tuttosport.

I can see Nani lighting up Serie A like Gervais.

Not.

Its down to their own shortcomings or rather their limitations as a club as Mclewis pointed out.You cant say they were unfortunate when they had the title in their grasp in 09-10 but bottled it in that all important game against Sampdoria.

Anyways, its a pretty useless debate we are arguing about,so i'll stop here.

Post by McLewis Mon Feb 17, 2014 3:22 pm

I think I see the point here though. Roma will likely become the first team in league history to win their opening 10 games and still not win the scudetto. A frankly unprecedented and ignominious record to break. Considering what most know about Roma though, you could consider this par for the course. I do think there is a bit of misfortune in that they face a slightly stronger Juve squad who went on to break that same record. How many times would we have seen 2 clubs win 10 games on the trot in the same league? I think that's what makes Roma so unfortunate this season. This side well and truly has very few limitations unlike past Roma sides and in seasons past, would've won those 2 scudetti we ultimately bottled.

As far as the limitations go, that's directly correlative to the management. Roma never really had the money and therefore the power that the northern clubs had and yet they have continually punched above their weight, finishing 2nd in the league more times than any other team. While that accounts for very little in the grand scale of things, 09-10 was particularly bitter for Roma fans since that was one of the very few seasons where we had our fate in our own hands. While most fans will point that Damato was absolutely awful in that Samp game, Roma's mentality just wasn't good enough as we shouldn't have been struggling to beat a side like that to begin with.

I think this is quite an interesting topic honestly.

What a Torino !

1-3 to Verona now, even El Kadhouri scored

Finally a Serie A played worthily by Granata.
On Sunday derby of Torino  , Torino doesn't scored A goal in derby since 2002 Laughing
Worst record ever.

I dont understand why Roma who isnt playing in Europe have many of their matches scheduled on Monday whereas we have our league game on Sunday after Thursday's EL game.If we go far in this competition,i'd ideally like to see our leagues games re-scheduled to Monday.

It would also mean exclusive telecast for me on TV..hehe

It was same thing I said last year for Inter, never played on Monday despite Europa League
I think it will be possibile only since Quarter-finals (I remember Lazio)
