Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Has this little shitehead forgotten that he sold RvP to United already? Or Nasri to City? Toure, Adebayor, etc? Or aren't United and City rivals to Arsenal?
I must be missing something.

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Tbf Wenger has previous for this.
When we signed Yanga-Mbiwa, Sissoko, Debuchy, Gouffran and Haidara last January.
He said it was unfair to the teams we had to play and the competition in general.

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Wenger has sold the most players to DIRECT rivals over the past 5 years. And that's not counting shipping Henry & Song off to Barcelona(CL rivals).

Yes, because the Nasri/RVP/Adebayor situations are EXACTLY the same as the Mata situation

Selling to a direct rival. Errr.....what's so different? Its not like Mata is going to sign for United for 4 months. He's STILL going to play against Chelsea next season. You don't have to blindly defend Wenger.Lex wrote:Yes, because the Nasri/RVP/Adebayor situations are EXACTLY the same as the Mata situation

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
He means it's unfair because Man Utd/Chelsea have already played twice, so Man Utd buying Mata means he can help them take points off Chelsea's other rivals.

What a little bitch.
This is the same guy who tried to buy Suarez from LIVERPOOL in the summer.
Pls stfu Wenger.
Be upset with the schedule makers if you doubt your own team so much.

Hmm, Wenger always has criticized the January transfer window . I haven't watched the clip , but I'd think he's talking about the timing of the transfer more than anything else .

What does that have to do with what he said in this interview?
The fact that he's mentioning a rival........?
Also, the schedule? Really?
Did anybody get upset when Chelsea bought Torres and had the nerve to complain about the schedule?

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
In your original comment, you talked about our past transfers as if Wenger willingly went through with them. In each case, the players forced the move, either by not signing an extension, or publicly stating they would like a move. If he could, he would have kept hold of those playersBlue Barrett wrote:Selling to a direct rival. In this case, Mourinho practically bent Mata over himself and offered his rusty sheriff's badge to Moyes and United, free tub of Vaseline and all

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
He said that the January window in general can be a bit unfair, with some clubs having already played against a certain club twice and others haven't.
In theory he's got a point, I mean, imagine if Chelsea had sold not just Mata to United but also, say, David Luiz and Lampard or even just loaned them. Chelsea won't play United again, but the other top teams will. In practice it's such a minor issue, though, that it's not a problem. (Although it would suddenly feel pretty big if Mata should score against Arsenal and they would lose to that goal and then lose the title to Chelsea on goal-difference, how about that for a Hollywood movie)

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Talking about the schedule is quite frankly very senseless.
It would be a reasonable point if United had put in a bid sometime last week(before the match) but Chelsea waited till after the match to accept it or something weird like that.
United did not express interest TO Chelsea until after the match so that's a very stupid point. Why try to put that on Chelsea?
Besides, if a PSG or so had been interested as well, I'm sure Chelsea would rather have sold to them than United. Waiting till the summer would have severely lowered his transfer fee because he would have been on the bench the whole season. Why not sell anyway? Only one buyer interested and with serious money.
So many loopholes with that point.

He ISN'T complaining about selling to a rival. He is complaining about how Chelsea will not have to face Mata unlike City or Arsenal. He has said the same thing about the January transfer window every year on the exact same thing. How in the world is this similar to the Suarez saga?

Actually, Fergie used to complain about the schedule annually. So did Benitez. There's even a rap about it on Youtubeizzy wrote:RealGunner wrote:izzy wrote:What a little bitch.

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
What I got from that video, or at least the first 30 seconds he said that Chelsea sold Mata off when they don't have to play United again making it more difficult for Arsenal (who I believe will face them at home) and City (who face them away). This will hurt them more as they will need results against United and Chelsea, as well as each other, were as Chelsea just need results against Arsenal/City thats if they don't drop any points.

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Mourinho had said several times this season that he'd like Mata to stay. Yesterday Mata told Mourinho at Cobham(according to credible sources) that he would like to leave. So now what? How's it so different? Player wanted to leave. Club cashed in. Sold to a direct rival.Lex wrote:In your original comment, you talked about our past transfers as if Wenger willingly went through with them. Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Each of the examples the OP brought up were all summer transfers, and aren't applicable to this discussion since Wenger is talking exclusively about the January window.
The point he's making is that the January window can be unfair as it's in the middle of the season, so you end up in a situation where some teams have played each other twice while the rest have to play strengthened sides. Like with the Mata transfer, Chelsea have played United twice so won't face them with Mata, while the rest of the league, specifically City and Arsenal, will have to.
He's not saying that buying/selling to another rival is unfair, as some in here are suggesting.

Yes he is complaining about them selling to a rival, or he wouldn't have brought up the fact that they were selling him to United and that would mean other rivals would have to face United with Mata and it may help Chelsea.
It's only similar in the rival comment, he then had the audacity to try and use the schedule to try and justify his pathetic point?
He could of said for going on 15+ years, it doesn't change the fact that, that is one of the most pathetic excuses I've ever heard.
Who the fck cares?
Again, I didn't hear anyone make such an issue about such a menial topic when Chelsea bought Torres in January a couple years back?
What a joke.

Re: Wenger: Mata deal unfair
Arsene has a point. He has always been vocal about the January transfer window. Look it at this way
A relegation team can face United and get a 0-0 draw when United haven't bought Mata. Next week another relegation team can face United and lose 1-0 with a Mata winner. Where ever you stand with the fair/unfair stance. It is something to consider.
