Re: UEFA Nations league
A bunch also plays says this tournament is redundant and a money grab by UEFA squeezed right after an already exhausting club season so I can imagine them saving themselves and not caring as much about it
This is essentially a rebranded cluster of friendly games and it's very unnecessary.

first of all, Spain has a decent team currently... i've been saying it
but secondly, yea it's a mickey mouse cup
and thirdly, Rodri is a midfield kingpin, he deserves better around him

Re: UEFA Nations league
It is a second tier competition, no doubt, but still best of Europe! To me, it is impressive as it is a group of no names and a few aging players with a new untested coach with slightly different tactics! Most important is our new backup CF has scored 3 goals in 3 games, this time scoring on his only shot at goal!
Note, one of complaints of this tournament didn’t matter to most countries was France yet we didn’t hear any of that nonsense a year ago when they won this “mickey mouse” tournament!

Re: UEFA Nations league
I like the concept of the tournament. I think it's definitely more exciting than friendlies. And gives teams an extra tournament with good prizes up for grabs. I

Re: UEFA Nations league
Congrat to Spain.
Some thoughts:
Normally, players get some vacation during the winter break so playing a couple of extra games in June is not a big deal. But this year, you asked players to literally go straight from August until June without a break. Just glad nobody got injured.
I don't think anyone was really focused on the Nation's League because of the World Cup timing. It messed everything up. Players were trying not to get injured and save energy in Nation's League pool games as opposed to really going hard (for France at least). Not that it did much good given the crazy number of injuries going in the world cup (again for France). Anyhow, FIFA is completely at fault here. Hopefully, first and last time there is a WC during the winter.
Re France winning this tournament getting more hype - It was mainly due to the fact that the world cup was coming and teams were trying to sharpen up before that. Also, it was the big return of Benzema to France NT during that tournament so it got more attention than usual. Without these two circumstances, it would have gotten the same attention as this one IMO.
I still think the games are very fun to watch. You don't have the crazy pressure of a world cup or euro. So the teams go all out a bit more. Makes for better football. I'd suggest that the Nation's League games are the best quality NT ones currently.

Re: UEFA Nations league
The nations cup is a replacement for boring non competitive friendlies! And that alone is a huge improvement in terms of competition. Nations teams play their games at set established timeframes throughout the year, roughly 5 or 6 times with usually a tournament in the summer every 2nd year. All the the nations cup did differently than when it was just friendlies was the final tournament of 4 teams! It wasn’t uefa that screwed this up, it was fifa with the winter WC.
Bottom line to me is it doesn’t matter if it is fifa or uefa or individual leagues. They all want more games, more revenue and there is little regard for players. There are just too many games. As a result, teams, both clubs and NTs almost need to have enough depth for two teams to be competitive!

Re: UEFA Nations league
At least Pedri is rested but Yamal starts. Pretty sure they're gonna cook this gem into the ground. Does he really need to play in an irrelevant Nations League friendly tournament after tests showed he has discomfort

I refuse to watch Serbia until they replace Stojkovic.
Anyway, San Marino's first victory ever
130 losses and 10 draws, beat Liechtenstein 1-0.

Add Güler to the injury list. That’s Alaba, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Bellingham, Ceballos, Militao plus Güler! There a chance of MAY be ready for next club date for Tchouameni, Bellingham and Camavinga.

Re: UEFA Nations league
New coach mostly new squad and just a new cycle overall.
Spalletti was massively disappointing in the Euros but he also does start off slowly and it was his first NT stint past clubs. With him a lot knew he would need more time and just last night somewhat was a display of that.
Tonali returning finally was huge and will be pivotal for the Italian manager that is for certain.

Not entirely related but what I found interesting recently someone from the Isle of Man vehemently disagreed when some other person remarked that they have an English accent. Upon further investigation I found that people from that island identify as separate peoples called 'Manx', which I wasn't aware of actually or I might've heard it once upon a time but it escaped my memory. I suppose some of them identify as British and some don't

Lamine Yamal now has more G/A (11) for country than Vinicius Jr (10). He also has more assists for country than Saka and Rashford combined (7). @statmuse

He was MOTM in the last clasico, granted we lost 3-2 but that's Xavi tax
Its not really hype anymore if its backed up by stats but he's still 17 lol
Lamine Yamal has delivered 17 assists for club and country in 2024, as many as Kevin de Bruyne. pic.twitter.com/NdoUeqtkjS
