I guess that you are saying that because C.Ronaldo has scored 66 goals, or something like that, this year. So then what about Messi scoring 91 goals last season? Isn't that "carrying" the team even more by that definition? So how can you say that "never has a player carried a top team like Ronaldo has this year"?

I don't know what you think(or any other bayern fan), but I belive that if Bayern would have a player who would score 70% of their goals, they would lose one of their greatest strenght and that is that the goals can come from anywhere..

Roanldo guarentees a goal head start, can you imagine how discliplined and solid this bayern would be if they knew they only needed a half chance to score?

Ozil and Di Maria have been huge let downs in the champions league in the past three years.

Xabi Alonso is great but teams actively shut him down (not his fault though)

As for Benzema, he's going to be the player with the largest number of champions league goals without actually winning it at this rate. Goes missing for long stretches way too often and it's worth mentioning that his best CL knockout games for Madrid came as a sub.

haha, it's just hard to agree with you after the Madrid v Cyber wars in the Goal.com Lithium era.

Then you can basically say the same thing about Messi. Xavi has been pretty bad for the past 2 season, in the league and in the CL, where as Iniesta last season was brilliant in the league but was nowhere to be seen at the CL. Messi was basically the only player who performed at the CL for us last season and even the season before, but not to the same extent.

The only way that C.Ronaldo has been "carrying" Real Madrid is by scoring the goals. But his teammates, especially Özil and Di Maria, have been laying the goals on a platter for him.

IMO, more than a let down, özil and Di Maria have been inconsistent. Something that C.Ronaldo himself has had a problem with. But the difference between C.Ronaldo and the other two, is that C.Ronaldo scores a goal even in a bad game, Di Maria and Özil don't. A perfect example of that would be the 2nd leg against Man Utd and against Dortmund in the first leg. He was pretty invisible in both games and yet he scored a goal.

IMO, they have been incosisntent in the CL. Something that C.Ronaldo himself has had a problem with. This is what it boils down to, what does performance mean? If scoring multiple tons of goals equals performance then Zidane would never have won the balon dor. This is why this award should be done right after any international tournament to avoid this BS

This isn't a golden shoe award, the best player helps his club win trophies.

As I mentioned, I think Ronaldo had a great season and I think it's a toss up (for me) between Ribery and Roanldo. Messi should finish third on the basis Messi, and Barca, both under performed by there super high standards. I would still put Ribery ahead of Ronaldo though just cause he didnt win a single thing while Ribery helped Bayern win a treble (possible also a fourth title with Club World Cup)

Why is Cronaldo again talked in this thread? Messi was individually better, statistically better, carried team more, won 2 team trophies, 3 individual trophies, compared to Cronaldo's 0, and got Argentina to World Cup as a winner of the hardest group. And he did this playing about half the time half fit.

Cronaldo just doesn't deserve it before Messi, there just isn't real argument for him.

Exactly these are the arguments for Cronaldo, and the hype generated from the freaking playoffs. And then they decide to change the rules after the race.

No he did not! He scored the majority of the goals, but Özil, Di Maria, Alonso and Benzema were vital as well, seeing as they were laying the goals ON A PLATTER for him.

Also, when Muller scored 86 goals in a year, Beckenbauer won the ballon d'or.
