*sighs* Do you really have to start b*tching around about whether CR7 or Messi is better / has the best stats etc? Please get a room and don't pollute even another FIFA Ballon d'Or thread with it!

Agreed, Messi - Ronaldo discussions take up too many threads as it is, nevermind the fact they go on and on for about 20 pages.
Personally, I'd give Ronaldo or Ribery the Balon d'or, yet I prefer Messi to them both
Dat unexpected twist.

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo Ballon d'Or 2013 Winner
Cristiano Ronaldo will win the ballon d'or this year for 3 reasons.
1- Messi injured.
2- People are tired of seeing Messi win all the individual awards [although all are deserved]
3- FIA/Baltter extending the voting period.
About Messi v Cristiano in 2013
Cristiano has been scoring a lot of goals since joining Real Madrid, and that's great. Yet, when Messi was criticized for not winning a major trophy in 2012 [although he had 2/3UCL, 3/3 Liga in previous 3 years and although he broke all sorts of record in that year and was clearly the best individually]. While, Cristiano Ronaldo who won 1/4 Liga 0/4 UCL in last 4 seasons, people are hyping him for:
1- great goal-scoring run in October and November
2- scoring more goals than an injured Messi.
3- scoring a hat-trick in a WC playoff game, that he shouldn't have played if he was good in WC 2014 qualifiers.
*no major trophies!
Again, I want Messi to win it because i'm biased, but I think Ribery deserve it the most [taking into consideration all circumstances, individual and team achievements].

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo Ballon d'Or 2013 Winner
About Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate [career]. CR became a great goal-scorer in recent years and that's the only thing making him compete with Messi. Although, again Messi has better goals/games ratio and better goals/shots rate.
Messi was at first compared in 2005-07 to the great Maradona for his unbelievable dribbling skills, few years later he improved his overall play and became a world class playmaker. Making him as good as Maradona in both dribbling and playmaking abilities. Messi is that good, even without his goals, he has the quality and same skills as the best player in history. Since 2009, Messi started to overtake Maradona in football qualities [all at the highest level], he added to that goal-scoring skills until he reached a level that he has broken all kinds of goal-scoring records in 2012. Yet, you're comparing him to Cristiano? really?
Another part of the story, is his achievements at 26: 4 ballond d'ors, 3 UCL, 6 Leagues!

Messi is not a better playmaker than d10s, or as good a playmaker. He doesn't have the range of passing, and he doesn't have the inexplicable passing technique to that extent, he doesn't facilitate attacks as well as he did, he doesn't create chances as well as he did. Messi fans really need to let that one go, if you want to keep believing in a fantasy though go for it.
It must be said though, messi is a freak to be so good at dribbling, passing and goalscoring all at once.
And CR fans, please, stop acting like cris is in the same bracket as messi, he isn't. Nor is he in the same bracket as a lot of other GOATS. And im sure, it wont be a long wait until we see more players better than him.

CR is surely up there with one of the best goal scorers of all time. His positioning and completeness in terms of scoring goals is nothing short of astonishing.

While I must admit that I am to young to have see Maradona in his prime and form an opinion of just how good he was. I have seen a couple of his games, and what I have gathered in those games is that while Maradona was a better long passer by a big margin, Messi is better at making throughballs by a pretty hefty margin aswell..

PS: Ronaldo's goal celebrations are at another level btw
No he isn't

Ronaldo better without it? Dude lay off the coke. Messi is better at Ronaldo at everything bar heading. Messi is a better footballer. Accept it and move on. Sheesh...

Always love to see people who have never watched Maradona in his prime. Messi better at through balls. You've got to love GL

98% of Messi's through balls are all diagonals that cut the defence with the ongoing player cutting in from the wing. Do you think Serie A allowed for that? Considering the offside rule as well, attacking and putting players through on goal was far far far harder. Coupled with how there was literally no space in between the lines. Maradonas passing was better and he could pass from far trickier situations and shifted the ball far quicker.
Dude, please just don't talk about him. As you said, you clearly did not watch him enough...
Farce.

First, did you not see where I admitted that I am not the best player to compare the two because of how little I have seen of Maradona?
And second, have you seen how the teams play against Barca? I am sorry, but if 99% of most teams puts 9 player just in or outside of the penalty area, it's very very hard to make a throughball. And the reason as to why most of Messi's throughballs are diagional, it's because of Barca's style. The only players that are ahead of him tends to be an overlapping fullback or Pedro and Alexis, who both play on the wings, i.e Messi, who plays in the middle, will make more diagional throughball.
I mean, when he plays for Argentina he tends to mix it up with his passes alot more. From throughballs to longballs..

Ronaldo has been leading Messi in goals, even before Messi was injured, so injury is not the reason. Not that goals should be the only indicator anyhow.

Cronaldo isn't nowhere near the goal scorer of Messi, 75% of his goals are directly assisted, Messi 50%. He needs double the chances, double the penalties, double the tap-ins to score less goals than Messi. And Messi does this all being marked at least twice as much. Messi can score from anywhere from the pitch, against anyone, and Cronaldo can't.

Yes he was leading overall in goals in 2013. Last season Messi had 23 goals for club in 2013, Ronaldo had 28. Not Ronaldo has 57 and Messi has 39 or something like that.

Ronaldo had 17 La Liga goals after the Nov 9 game. Messi's last appearance was on Nov 10 and he has 8 goals.
Ronaldo had 36 La Liga goals from Jan 1 through Nov 9. Messi has 28 La Liga goals from Jan 1 through Nov 10.

Messi was injured for almost 2 months at the end of last season

and Ronaldo could only muster up a 5 goal lead?

lol.
One thing i don't understand is when Ribery won Uefa player of the season for last season everyone was fine with it.
But now after a few goals in meaningless games from other candidates he shouldn't even be nominated?
Might as well rename it to Balon Boot as that is clearly the only criteria anymore.

Difference is that Ribery is playing for the most stacked team I have ever seen.. The whole midfield and defense would get into our starting line-up easily. And Ronaldo and Messi are by far more important to their respective teams than Ribery has been.jibers wrote:Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Zealous wrote:HH laying a verbal smackdown on stat whore Jiopsi. That's not what I'm trying to say though. Jibers is trying to discredit Ronaldo, by saying that his goals are worthless, and Ribery is stacking up trophies. But Ronaldo is an attacker, scoring goals is his job, and he has done his job better than anyone else this year in my opinion. I can't see how Trophies can't be so deciding, when are a team is as stacked as Bayern, where everyone played equally well last season. Ribery wasn't even the clear cut best player in the CL imo, Neuer and Lahm, could both make a valid case. Well Ribery winning the UEFA award sort of makes sense, he was an important player (not the obviously best player) on a team that won everything including UEFA's most important trophy, the Champion's League. Him winning that makes sense in it's own way. Keep in mind Iniesta won this award for doing fck all so I'm not sure what legitimacy this award has.
But UEFA player of the year =/= Balon D'Or and despite your hipster DNA no way does Ribery deserve every individual award in world football in 2013, not when Ibrahimovic can point to his 2013 and very easily argue that his performances were at a higher level, can't even say Ibra plays in a weak league, not when Ribery plays for the only horse in a race full of mules.
Also the "they only score goals! boo hoo" whinge that you and jibers wallow in has gotten boring. Anyone who watches Ronaldo, Ibra and Messi know that they bring more to the table than goals.
Ribery isn't even a better player than Suarez (who is also quite good in his own right) he should be grateful he won the UEFA award and just have his wife put that on his mantle piece.

I know man, I'm just a little edgy at the moment as there's a game coming up I'd not really want to see us lose.
But if you say we're 'stacked', can I remind you that our is team is just a fraction as expensive as yours, and that the player that won us the CL final is a Real Madrid reject?

Real Madrid rejects are among the greatest champions in football history.
