I think his meeting my expectations, only because they really ain't that high.
If we had a proper CB pairing we wouldn't need a player like gerrard to play so deep. Once we fix that we can adjust to have a more attack minded trio then what Gerrard, heno and allen can be.
I wanna see
Hendo---------Allen

This time last year, any Chelsea fan would have said the same of Frank Lampard

With all due respect, Lampard is nothing like Gerrard. He's shown by signing for City what kind of a person he is.

If we don't offer Gerrard a new contract, I wouldn't hold it against him if he signed for City (if they wanted him).

Why would City want Gerrard, no top team would TBH, his going oversea's to grab some cash in the MLS.

Re: Steven Gerrard
I can categorically say he won't play for another club in England. And I'm sure he'll retire with us.
From a footballing perspective, it would probably be best if we moved on as it's been long coming and him being in the starting XI is holding us up.

He went to New York and got loaned to City.
He was supposed to come play in Australia but the A league policy of "2 marquee signings" only restricted him in coming so.
So yeah, City thought they could use him rather him sitting out for a couple of months doing nothing. They do after all pay his wages. (Well the Sheikh, not City.)
He also done well at City, so it was a win-win or all.
Can't compare him to Gerrard though. Lampard may be a Chelsea legend, but he didn't come up via their academy.
Gerrard is Liverpool. I'll be surprised if he ever plays for another club professionally.

Doesn't matter if he got loaned to City. If his allegiances lay with Chelsea then he could have declined City but he was persuaded by whatever it was (ahem money).

I'm not blaming him for going to NY. HE SIGNED FOR CITY and that Chelsea fan is trying to compare Stevie's loyalty with that mofo.

Re: Steven Gerrard
HE NEVER SIGNED FOR CITY FFS
He was forced to go out there FROM NEW YORK to get fitness ready for MLS.
Like I said he was supposed to come to play in the A league first. After the A league said he wasn't allowed they forced him to go to City.
Anyway, getting over talking about Lampard in a Gerrard thread.......... so I'll let myself out.

You really think players are forced to do anything?
Lamaprd HAD to sign a contract with City even if on loan. He HAD to agree to go there.

I don't know the exact details around loan signings especially with feeder clubs and what not, however he signed for City because his new employers asked him too. Rather than sit on his arse he did what a model professional would do so I have no problem with that.

Cmon are you telling me Lampard couldn't have signed for ANY other club in Europe to stay fit?
He HAD to choose City?
Anyways it doesn't matter. The situation is completely different between Stevie and Lampard.

I don't know, you are assuming many things and all I know is that NY held the power. If they pay the wages then obviously they would want to benefit from this, coupled with the fact that City probably wanted him as well.
Either way I know Lamps is Chelsea through and through.
As is Stevie with Liverpool regardless of who else he plays for if he does play for a different team.

Re: Steven Gerrard
What was thatt again?
Frank Lampard WILL stay at City — on £190k-a-week deal that dwarfs Chelsea wage — for rest of the season:
Frank Lampard will spend the whole season at Manchester City, earning a whopping £190,000-a-week after signing an option to extend his loan deal with the Premier League champions until May

Re: Steven Gerrard
So, what do we think of Gerrard's role at the moment?
I was very happy with him last season, his composure on the ball and passing range were very well suited to our game when we were playing well, he could distribute it quickly and accurately to other players who would cause all kinds of problems to our opponents.
Now, like in the Palace game, he is having very little impact on the games where we cannot make the most of his distribution. His lack of mobility is making him a harmless passenger that our opponents can too easily ignore.
I'm not convinced Lucas is the answer, because he isn't mobile himself, but I'd like to see Henderson tried in Gerrard's role. Like I said in the transfer Hindsight thread, getting Song on loan from Barca would have been nice.
What do you guys reckon about Gerrard's role in the team?

Re: Steven Gerrard
I don't think Song is really the answer. He tends to get lost too much IMO.
If we were going to buy a midfielder from Southampton it should have been Schneiderlin. There are a ton of options out there for players that would better fit the role that Gerrard is currently playing. It is painfully obvious we need someone that can provide cover and defensive support to the back four first and foremost while being mobile and able to complete simple passes.
It's funny because I actually think that Allen would be fine there for now (or maybe Can) but someone who is of a high quality of player in that position would be ideal this winter to phase Stevie out.
Henderson to me should not be moved back any further. He is at his best when he can contribute to both phases of play and he gets right up near the opposition box a lot and contributes too much to our build up with runs, give and gos and neat little passes. We need someone that is willing to stay back most of the time and play very responsibly in front of our defence.
In the meantime we can convert Gerrard to a centreback and have him play with Sakho.

Re: Steven Gerrard
This I agree with you . I think Gerrard should only start at home games. I would like to see Emre and Henderson tried in that position. May be both as a double pivot. If we were going to buy a midfielder from Southampton it should have been Schneiderlin.
