Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard
One i was thinking about the other day and although i must although admit Gerrard has a much shot then Frank and is a more versatile player imo Lampard has better close control and is the better play maker, although of course im very boas in this case, so what do the rest of you think?

Lampard for his late runs in to the box, Gerrard for everything else.

I'd say Gerrard is the better player on his day, but Lampard is more consistent.

I cant put my finger on exactly why, not for a want of trying, but I prefer Lampard.

its nice to know im not the only one
for me i think Frank just has a greater presence on the game, like Xavi for example (no way im comparing the two), when those guys are on the field they just have a greater presence, like you just know they're there and they're involved in everything and i dont know they just have a greater presence, although like i said, im biased

I have always preferred Lampard, I think partly because of his consistency. Gerrard has more magical moments, but consistency beats that imo.

Gerrard for me. Man is dynamism personified. When Pool are digging deep for a winner or an equalizer, Gerrard's usually the one to strike gold first. I think he does that at key times due to his work rate & overall awareness of where the play is and where he needs to be to intersect and impact proceedings.
That's not a teachable trait. Lamps has it as well, but Gerrard appears to call upon it far more often and as it turns out, it just happens to be at far more crucial times.

Re: Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard
I haven't done stats for these two so this will be a rare opinion based solely on what I've seen of them with my eyes (not much, actually, I find Chelsea and Liverpool so boring to watch unless they're playing in the Champions League).
I would go for Lampard. I think they're equally good passers, and Gerrard is probably a better tackler, Lampard a better goalscorer, Gerrard quicker, but Lampard is just so much more intelligent. I think Lampard has better positioning, timing, movement and decision making, so I'm going to have to go for Lampard.
I think so anyway. I'll be back some day with stats to see if I was right or completely off the mark.

Perhaps its that, again im really not sure.
I agree with everyone who says Gerrard in terms of the positive things they say about him. He has incredible dynamism and one thing is for sure, when times are hard it wont be for a lack of trying he doesnt show up.
He is also used to be a far far greater athlete than Lampard, which goes in line with the dynamism.
However, I never liked Gerrard looseness with the ball. I think he sometimes plays hero ball and makes passes and movements too hastily. This is perhaps why Rafa never wanted him as centermid and made him a second striker almost.
I think in their primes, Gerrard was the more impressive player but I think Lampard was the more steady one.

Well when you've played the better part of your career with someone like Drogba, you don't really have to come up with match winning goals too oftenMcLewis wrote:Gerrard for me. Re: Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard
20 goals a season for 5 straight season
10 goals a season for over a decade now :now:
Highest scoring English midfielder EVER
2nd highest all-time in premier league assists behind only Giggs
3rd all time Chelsea scorer(only needs about 17 goals to become No.1)
Dat consistency

Lampard hasn't even played yet lol. Jumping the gun a bit aren't we?
He could be just as poor as Gerrard tomorrow for all we know.

Lampard is more prolific (goals/assists) and consistent than Gerrard.. But I would rather have Gerrard overall
I think Gerrard would play just as good or better on the teams Lampard has had.. Could you say the same about Lampard at Liverpool?

Its hard to say really, if you compare the style of play and the players in the teams Lampard and Gerrard played in when they were in their prime they're really nothing alike. Having said that Gerrards best seasons came when he played out wide and theres no way Frank could have ever played out wide, hes too slow, of course that didnt stop Ranieri from trying it
