Steven Gerrard
The discussion in the general section and Fergie got me thinking today, Anyways regardless of what the others think, Gerrard is obviously one of the greatest players to don the Liverpool jersey.
This video has his moments from 04, 21 minutes of Steven Gerrard.

Re: Steven Gerrard
The English fans on GL seem to be so ignorant about Gerrard, they dont realise his contribution towrds the NT. Having such a figure in dressing room means so much, he is really a leader on the pitch. Roy's first right thing to do was to get him as Captain. His goal against Poland was the thing which he can do for them

Re: Steven Gerrard
I think what annoys me most about Gerrard is that people are very quick to go with the "typical English, just power, no skill" point of view. It's like people think all he could ever do was kick a ball really hard from 30 yards away. Not only do they ignore the fact that scoring all those brilliant goals from outside the box take a lot of technique anyway, they also seem to completely ignore some of the technically brilliant goals he's scored, some of the superb assists, the pinpoint crosses.
Look at this goal vs Marseille. Imagine if a Spaniard/Brazilian had scored this.
Skip to 1:08 on this video. That's an UNBELIEVABLE finish. Absolutely brilliant technique. Coming onto a ball at full speed, ball bounces in front of him, pops up to knee height, he has to open up his body and get over the ball at the same time to get the direction and the height, not to mention the speed of it. Casillas hardly saw it.
These two are unreal. The first is often overlooked for the second. The control on the second is amazing. Bear in mind this is the 90th minute, he's got cramp, it's just crazy how he gets that much power and that much control. The flight of the ball is perfect.
These are some of his passes just from last season.
Defensive work. I'd like to see Paul Scholes do some of this without breaking about 15 legs.
Who says he has no skill?
LEGEND.

Re: Steven Gerrard
Excellent post.
Aldridge he said: "Any manager or player who has ever come across Steven in the game will tell you he's world class.
"We all know what Sir Alex thinks of Liverpool - he's on record enough times telling us.
"But he is barking up the wrong tree when it comes to Steven Gerrard.
"If he needs to do Stevie down so he can sell his book, then let him."

Re: Steven Gerrard
correct me if I am wrong, wasnt he the one who appreciated Gerrard back in 2005 and probably actually tried to sign him. I have respect for the man, but he seems to be the biggest hypocrite in world football

Re: Steven Gerrard
He tried to sign Gerrard 2 or 3 times by reports, for around the same price as Chelsea (£30m)... but I'm sure he never actually rated Gerrard that highly.
Then again, some Liverpool fans were seriously discussing selling Gerrard for £10-15m just a season or so ago, so opinions can change I guess.

I'm not sure if anyone really called for him to be sold rather than asked for people's opinion on the matterRed Alert wrote:I'm certain only one person argued he should be sold...RedOranje wrote:

Re: Steven Gerrard
His quotes on Suarez are spot on.
I can't find them right now, but he said what makes Suarez a top player is that he'll be thinking of that header he missed towards the end of the game, rather than thinking of that free kick he scored.
If only the rest of the team had the FOOTBALL mind set of Luis Suarez.

Re: Steven Gerrard
Luis Suarez is a bloody great footballer and has one of the best work ethics I've seen in football. It's evident in his performances, his a top 5 player for all i care, regardless what anyone says.
I really hope he stays beyond this season.

Re: Steven Gerrard
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he will leave Anfield for another club in the summer if he is not offered a new contract.
Gerrard joined the Liverpool academy at the age of nine and has made almost 700 first-team appearances for the Reds but his current deal expires in the summer.
The 34-year-old has played in all of Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League games so far this season.
But Gerrard has confirmed he would not retire if he is not offered a contract extension in the summer and will sign elsewhere.
"I can only worry about this season because I'm only contracted until May," Gerrard told the Daily Mail.
"I certainly won't be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season."
Steven Gerrard
"As it stands at the moment, I'm here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it. I certainly won't be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season.
"We will have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else. That's Liverpool's decision. If they don't come then I will see what's out there."

Re: Steven Gerrard
Oh, I hadn't realize his current deal is up. I thought he had more years left. But I'm sure he'll be offered a new deal, I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Mm, if he wants a longer deal than 2 years, there might be a problem.

I think he's been fine. He's our deepest-lying CM and scoring goals is our problem, I don't know what some people are expecting of him.

I think his meeting my expectations, only because they really ain't that high.
If we had a proper CB pairing we wouldn't need a player like gerrard to play so deep. Once we fix that we can adjust to have a more attack minded trio then what Gerrard, heno and allen can be.
I wanna see
Hendo---------Allen
--------Cou
--Sterling
----------------Balo
-------Borini
