I voted for Gerrard because I have rarely seen any player carrying a team the way he did it with Liverpool in his prime. Long-range goals, assists, dictating play and everything.

As a midfielder, Xabi is probably better though because of his passing skills and vision, yet Gerrard remains the more complete player because of his finishing skills.

Different players. Alonso is a superior playmaker to Gerrard, a better passer and controls gaes better, Gerrard can be an x factor. As CMs, alonso for me. gerrard was best when he was deployed just off the SS.
