Loving how the Voting was re-opened.... probably Messi didnt have enough votes yet though.

Blatter masterplan with the tweets, fooling everybody.

Damn the messi fans are upset... sheesh.

Ronaldo should get it easily. Like in 2012.

FFS its an award for the best player in 2013, not an all time award. Messi hasn't been anywhere near Ronaldo in 2013. Doesn't matter who you think the better player is. This is about performance in the past year.

It would be for the past year, however the question is who's actually the better player if Ronaldo did win the Ballon d'Or?

When determining who is the better player, would all time status/ability count, or would it be what the player has done in the past year? Just a few things to consider.

False!

C.ronaldo's form in the last month and a half has somewhat clouded the truth. While C.Ronaldo has scored more goals this year, it's only in the last month and a half that C.Ronaldo has been undoubtly better than Messi. At the first half of this year Messi was better(secured the golden boot like by february, scored 21 games in a row in La Liga and had to come on injured against PSG to save our asses etc), as was he at the start of this season(until he got injured he was the topscorer in the league with 8 goal while C.ronaldo had only scored 3).

You can say that you think that he has been better this year, IMHO not the entire year, but to say that Messi hasn't been anywhere near C.Ronaldo is false.

You do know the last month or two count as part of the year, right?

Total goals in 2013

Ronaldo = 66

Messi + Ribery = 64

It's silly really to think Ronaldo deserves it based on two months form on a award that counts for the whole year.

where was Ronaldo when Atletico Madrid smashed Real Madrid in their own home in the final of Copa de Rey, AND La Liga this season.
Where was Ronaldo against any top team he faced (inbefore Gala is top team) the guy is carrying his team into a match against Sweden which was unneeded had they won their easy group stages.
Atleast Ribery has the excuse that they had Spain in their group stages, whereas Ronaldo couldn't surpass the mighty Israel, and Russia rofl
Carrying his 1 billion $ squad to third place in La Liga, it's laughable to think he deserves it over a player like Ribery all because Ribery doesn't score hat tricks against relegation fodders.
this post is probably useless because the generic Madrid fan who have disappeared all season long until now will respond with "haterz gonna hate"

And how big was the difference before Messi got his first big injury this season? I know that since Messi got his injury, C.ronaldo has scored 22(13 goals in the league, 5 in the CL and 4 against sweden), while Messi has only scored 3 goals(all 3 against Milan).

So basically the big difference between Messi's and C.ronaldo goaltally has been made this last 2 months, which means what I and Casciavit said is true.

Then you should have been here when a guy named super_floren was here. These guys that you are criticizing are nothing compared to him. All he did was create thread where he stated that Villar and Platini was out to get Real Madrid by helping Barca. He never got banned. So it's got nothing to do with his club.

And the last 10 months don't, I guess. You said he wasn't anywhere near him 2013, but that isn't true. Messi was better than CR last season and was better in the beginning of this season until he got injured.

Check the UPOTY votes, Ronaldo came third with 3 votes. Just goes to show before the start of the season journalists considered him as more of an outsider if anything.

That's cute and all, but what did Madrid win with all those goals? Yeah, that's right nothing. Goals are supposed to win you matches which are in return supposed to win you trophies, but Madrid aren't winning any trophies. Lets not forget the record difference between 1st and 2nd place last season. And aren't Madrid doing worse than Atletico nowadays Laughing

So he scored the most goals? He should be given the golden boot, not the golden ball.

Unless you think Ronaldo's last month or 2 >> Messi's entire year, then that's taking a bit of a stretch no?

It's exactly what happened with Bale except to an even more extreme sense. Player comes into form around the time of the award and just forget about the rest of the year. Bale turned it on for half the season and people don't remember anything before they came into form.

What is the argument about him not being a big-game player for this year? For a goal-scoring winger, he does his job extremely well and apart from a few poor performances this year, he has always contributed to his team. Examples of his big-matches in my opinion:

vs Atlético de Madrid - 2 matches, 1 goal (1 undeserved red card)
vs Manchester United - 2 matches, 2 goals
vs Borussia Dortmund - 2 matches, 1 goal
vs Barcelona - 4 matches, 2 goals, 2 assists
vs Juventus - 2 matches, 3 goals, 1 assist
vs Sweden - 2 matches, 4 goals
Total: 14 matches, 13 goals, 3 assists

Now obviously using just goals and assists as a determinant is a rather superficial form of argument, so what argument is there about him not performing well in big matches this year?

And by the way, could there be a comparison alongside Messi for this? :p

trisnaldo will probably win this year . i literally hate him . what was that celebration after scoring those goals in sweden . As if he dribbled 3 players and scored single handedly . He is the center of portugese counter attacking tactics . he is in acres of spaces and he is the best football roadrunner . what was as not highlighted as mush as aragoantnaldo finishing was those PRECISION PASSING from midfield that got him those balls . i think the last goal was superb from him . anyway the divenaldo has stayed healthy (messi is having multiplie injuries this season ) through this season ,so he deseves this award .

mind you messi is still the better player ABILITY WISE . there is no question here .

but cris has work hard to get to where he is and he is great professional and he had the better year so he should get it .

Same people who wanted Sneijder to win it in 2010, want Cristiano to win it this year! Which doesn't make sense!

Here's why:
- If its just about goals, the same people who want CR to win it this year shouldn't have any problem with Messi winning it in 2010. Messi scored 60 goals and assisted 19 in 2010 (calender year). But, what Messi has over Cristiano that in that year he won Liga title, won pichichi, european golden shoe and was the ucl top scorer!

Individually, he was the best and he added some major individual trophies. Yet, some fans until now consider it undeserved.

IMO its deserved but I would have preferred to see the world cup winner Xavi who had a consistent performance through out the whole year and played a major role for both Barcelona & Spain. Spain's system was build around Xavi and that was a major factor that helped Spain win the World Cup. Some considered Spain boring, but the way that Xavi controlled the games was the reason why they won the World Cup!
note: Xavi had the most passes (699) and created the most chances (30, 10 ahead of the 2nd Ozil 20, Messi had 16 with 2 less games).

Anyway, if it was up to me:

2009: Messi
2010: Xavi
2011: Messi
2012: Messi
2013: Ribery

[Individual+Team achievements should be considered, unless you have the best individual performance ever like Messi 2012 who only won minor team trophies].

*Ribery vs Sneijder.

1- Ribery performance was consistent through out the year, Bayern are unbeaten in their last 51 games with Ribery on the pitch. He played a major role and according to Bayern players them selves he was the best and most important player on the team. While Sneijder only played 2nd part of 2009/10 at high level. Also, System wssn't build around him. Inter's defensive qualities and Mourinho's tactics with players like Zanetti, Cambiasso, Cesar, Maicon, Lucio and Samuel made the difference. Plus, Milito was votted best player in UCL & Seria A and not Sneijder. I think his performance was overrated comapred to others.

2- Stats: Ribery 20 goals, 19 assists (ongoing) compared to Sneijder's 12 goals and 10 assists in 2010 for club and country.

3- Ribery has been playing at a high level since 2009, while Sneijder was never a consistent player and I can't really say that he deserves to be a ballon d'or winner.

4- IMO, Xavi in 2010 was ahead of Sneijder in terms of importance for club and country. In terms of trophies UCL+League = WC+League.

Although, Iniesta 2010 individually was great, but like Messi 2013 he was injured for few months.

Against Bayern, he was unfit and after playing that game his injury was back!

- This was Sneijder's first year in a new team and new league. Hell, it was his first season in three years where he was actually a regular guaranteed starter. I think that is important to explain his relative slow start to the season.
- He built up steam heading into the business end of the season, and delivered in almost all the title deciding games. Its true that it was Milito's goals that propelled the Nerrazuri to the titles, but Sneijder was just as important IMO.
- Milito was rightly given that monstrosity of a trophy for the European player of the year. As i said, it was finally his goals in all the important games that delivered their first ever Treble. However, Maradona trolled him big time by not making him the starter for the WC (Though Pipa did just fine i might add). There was no way El Principe was gonna win the Ballon D'Or without playing in the WC at all.
- Sneijder was arguably better than any Spaniard in the WC. He turned the Brazil quarter final around for his team after they were 0-1 down.
- Finally, Sneijder was denied a World Cup winning Assist by Robben and Iker. If Iker had not stretched his boot just far enough, or Robben was not such a choke artist, we could well be talking about the Oranje's first triumph, because remember, Spain had barely created any chance of note prior to that missed opportunity.

P.S : Milito was not even included in the top 32 list for the Ballon D'Or. But Miroslav "I only score for Germany" Klose and Asamoah "I only score penalties, but not the important ones" Gyan were. Just one more reason why this award is such a farce.
