FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 - Women’s shortlist
While the discussions get more and more heated about who should be on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or 2013 for the guys, FIFA sneakily announced the women's shortlist without much fuss:

Nilla Fischer (Sweden),
Lena Goessling (Germany),
Saki Kumagai (Japan),
Marta (Brazil),
Alex Morgan (USA),
Yuki Ogimi (Japan),
Lotta Schelin (Sweden),
Christine Sinclair (Canada),
Abby Wambach (USA).
Nadine Angerer (GK of the German NT and currently keeping the goal of Brisbane Roar in Australia) already won the UEFA's European Player of the Year 2013.
Contenders for the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football 2013:
Gilles Eyquem (France/France U-19 National Team),
Kenneth Heiner-Møller (Denmark/Denmark National Team),
Ralf Kellermann (Germany/VfL Wolfsburg),
Shelley Kerr (Scotland/Arsenal Ladies FC),
Patrice Lair (France/Olympique Lyonnais),
Silvia Neid (Germany/ Germany National Team),
Cindy Parlow Cone (USA/Portland Thorns FC),
Even Pellerud (Norway/Norway National Team),
Anna Signeul (Sweden/Scotland National Team),

Only because you don't know the players doesn't mean they aren't good. It just shows your lack of knowledge. I think you might want to watch Marta of Brazil once in a while (she won five Ballons d'Or in a row).

I have no idea what Kim Little has to do to get in the shortlist. Ever single year.

Is she as good as Messi or any other WC player? No? Then I really dont care about womans futbol. The quality difference is just too big for me. Marta, the greatest of all time. Alex Morgan, the hottest of all time.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 - Women’s shortlist
Do you expect Serena Williams to defeat Roger Federer or Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to outrun Usain Bolt? Women football is not as fast as men's football, but it has its own quality and appeal. The most refreshing thing is that the ladies don't playact like the male princesses and they don't die in agony from the slightest touch.Collblanc wrote:Is she as good as Messi or any other WC player? Yes, because womans futbol is overrated. Why give a ballon d'or to someone who just isnt as good as someone else? Takes the prestige out of a award

So you think that women shouldn't win Olympic Gold Medals either?Collblanc wrote:Yes, because womans futbol is overrated. Why give a ballon d'or to someone who just isnt as good as someone else? Takes the prestige out of a award
Oh, and by the way, Michael Owen also won a Ballon d'Or. Doesn't that diminish the award as well?

Collblanc, it would be wise for you not to post about topics you know nothing about. Your opinion on women's football is noted, but you are not adding anything to this conversation. It would behoove you to at least do some research before shooting your mouth off.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 - Women’s shortlist
I watched my first full game of women's football yesterday. Norway beat Albania 7-0 at home, in a group qualification match
It was fairly entertaining to watch. Of course, it wasn't as fast paced and flair-induced as men's football is, but I was positively impressed by the quality of some of the players. My only complaint is that I'm not familiar with any of the players on my own country's female football team, so I was struggling to relate to, or feel some sense of patriotism towards the team. Also, none of the women on the pitch stood out as particularly attractive.. for what it matters

Seriously, no love for Sydney Leroux. I know Wambach or Morgan should easily win it, but Leroux is the USWNT member on the best form right now.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 - Women’s shortlist
Well, and if you want to see some outstanding goalie work in women football, you really need to take a look at Nadine Angerer. Although many guys will prolly not consider her a looker, but then, among the male footballers you find quite a lot who won't make it in modeling either. ^^

No goals against in the whole World Cup 2007 campaign
