Need a new laptop!
So I am planning on buying a new laptop and I know that some of you guys here know a lot about technology. I am no computer whiz so I need your suggestions! I have no preference at all and I am not looking at anything particular atm. Price is not really an issue, but preferably not more than 800 pounds. Any suggestions?
Edit: Open to buying Macs.

Re: Need a new laptop!
Depends on what you wanna use it for really.
As for the link you posted, that price for that specs is a great option IMO. I would however suggest finding a review for that model on notebookcheck.net in case you miss an important detail. Other than that, it looks solid

Go here. They are fantastic and you can pick whatever you want to specs... guaranteed the parts are 10x better than any brand laptop you can get for the price.
I considered using them after recommendation but decided to build my own PC.

Re: Need a new laptop!
So I read some reviews and they are pretty good. I upgraded the notebook from the link I posted, but then I was hit with a 3-4 week delivery period. So I went on the UK site and picked out and already configured one with minimal differences in spec from the upgraded one I initially had.Soul wrote:Depends on what you wanna use it for really.

Probably the best thing to do, but problem is I can't wait on delivery as I am going back to Brighton very soon to start Uni again. Gonna have to go in store and pick something up.sportsczy wrote:http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/

I have a few questions. The notebook I picked has a Intel® HM87 Express chipset. This is Haswell right?
Also a Hard disk drive partition up to 24 GB partition for system recovery is the same thing as a 24GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache right?
Thanks for the help guys.

System recovery is makes a backup of your OS incase anything fails and you can use it to restore it
Hard Drive Acceleration Cache helps speed up your Hard Drive by speeding up the read and write function

Re: Need a new laptop!
They take less than a week EP... you can talk to them and you can actually go pick it up too if you need it in a matter of days.
Give it a shot. Well worth it.

Re: Need a new laptop!
Yeh, so it came up to about 250 quid more than the Envy. And it says on average it takes 19 days to ship so add on about another 5 at least for delivery. I've made my mind up getting the Envy.

Re: Need a new laptop!
I've had a couple of really bad experiences with HP because they use low-end components... the power is there; but it breaks down quickly. The only thing that you know is the processor. But they don't tell you what kind of motherboard, RAM, etc they use.
Best brands out there that use quality components are Lenovo, Samsung and Apple. Dell used to be great too... but i don't know anymore.
Anyhow, be careful. That's why i only do custom computers for myself now. It's all in the quality of the components... not the brand.

Re: Need a new laptop!
HP Envy products are their top line one but i still don't trust them i currently have a HP but it sounds like a plane, and burns like crazy. Their laptop are notorious for getting hot quickly and shutting down
Right now only Samsung, Lenovo and Asus are the best Windows Laptop. (even the Mac Pro is a good windows machine if you install windows on it)

Re: Need a new laptop!
All the reviews I read from customers say this specific model doesn't over heat and runs very cool.
Not a fan of ASUS atm and Samsung components are not as impressive as the Envy ones.
Lenevo is a better choice but they are a lot more expensive.

I'm waiting for the new Asus UX301. I won't decide anything before it comes out. In the mean time, if you live in Europe, you should probably find out about BTO laptops.

Re: Need a new laptop!
Personally, I have had no problems with HP ever. And I've owned quite a few.
I actually just ordered a HP Envy myself this week. The dv6-7363cl
http://www.cnet.com/laptops/hp-envy-dv6-7363cl/4505-3121_7-35818626.html
Do you need or want touchscreen? Otherwise you could probably find the same specs for $150 or so less.

Re: Need a new laptop!
I need a new laptop as well. My last one died a month and half ago in summer heat. Early, Lenovo's mid to high end line worked out for me the best so far and trust me I had many of them. They're perfect for uni etc. The worst reps I heard from my friends were MSI and HP. Asus ones are cheap and all but are big+ last less battery wise.
Macs are also an option if you swing that way :lol:Samsung uses quality components but the cases are all plastic crap. For 800 pounds, you should be able to buy a laptop with proper metalic case or at least metal cover for the keyboard so it doesn't get dirty easily. Macs have it per default, higher up Lenovos as well. If you can find a Samsung like that you'll be happy, too, I guess
Also, there're shops who give discounts for students. I know for certain Lenovo has got it in Germany and UK. You can get up to 25% discount which is a big deal.

What will you be using it for? Just school? Gaming? Both?EarlyPrototype wrote:Actually didn't find the specs.dmize wrote:Personally, I have had no problems with HP ever. And I've owned quite a few.

Re: Need a new laptop!
Wow 25%. I'll check it out. Thing is I don't have a good reason to spend 4 figures or more on a laptop tbh.Babun wrote:I need a new laptop as well. Also Dmize I will mainly be using it for Uni and occasional gaming. 95% will be just streaming tbh. I guess the specs I am looking for are more than enough for what I will be doing, but I might as well get a top of the line laptop that will last me for years.

This Lenovo is supposed to be coming soon. Not sure how long I have to wait for details...I am expecting 1000+ though. However if I manage to get a 25% discount...
