Cannavaro announces retirementJuly 9, 2011
Email Print By ESPNsoccernet staff
World Cup-winning former Italy star Fabio Cannavaro has announced his retirement.
Cannavaro, 37, has been advised by doctors that his knee injury means he will no longer be able to continue his career.
"I'm very sad," he said. "Football is everything for me in my life."
Cannavaro, who was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2006 after captaining Italy to World Cup glory, had spent the last season with Al Ahli after leaving Juventus but missed their final games of the season. He will stay on at the Dubai-based club as a technical adviser.

I was just about to say...
I'm a huge Milan fan
But it will be a very sad when Del Piero, favourite Italian player of all time, retires
Same goes with Totti, Buffon, Nesta, Inzaghi.

Headbutt stuff.
As much as I like Zidane, that is still the most legendary-hilarious thing I have ever seen a player do. Boss-points for Matrix.

Re: A legend retires
LOL, he scored a goal/was responsible for a pen and he got headbutted. What's there to justify?iNFINITY9910 wrote:InterMalia wrote:What? He won a wc trophy next to Matrix, mate.iNFINITY9910 wrote:Great player.. wrong team mates... Materazzi I mean.... hats off to him Cannavaro though!

The fact that he provoked the best player on the pitch needs justification? Get real!

That was never a pen. Malouda went down easy.
