Manchester United 2013/2014 Uefa Champions League Thread
I'm anxious to see the draw of the group stages .
Will we struggle again to win the group?

Our target for this season's CL should be:
Advance from the group in 1st place.
Atleast reach the last 8.
I don't expect anything other than that.
My opinion may change depending on whether we bring in some quality players.

I agree with Red.
Moyes's experience in Europe is not high.
If we go past the final 8 then well done to him. If we don't then we be patient and not start a Moyes out campaign.
Really depends on the teams we face though.

We'll get Marseille, Zenit and Steaua Bucharest. We like to play against Romanian sides . Otelul Galati two seasons ago, CFR Cluj last season and now I predict Steaua Bucharest .
We'll win the group with 13 points (a defeat and one draw) .

So?
I think it will be like this: Man United, Schalke/Marseille, Basel and Steaua Bucharest.

With Moyes' luck in fixtures so far, first 5 premier league games and Liverpool in the league cup, I wouldn't be so surprised to see a hard group.

No Basel pls
I think we'll get a harder group than usual, but not Group of Death level. A team like Atletico Madrid would be fun to watch in the same group as us.

Group A: Man Utd, Shakhtar, Leverkusen and Sociedad
We should win it, but a tricky group.

Of all the teams we could draw in that pot we drew Shakhtar f'n Donetsk
It's a deceptively difficult group, especially those away fixtures.

Agreed. Shakhtar lost Mkhytarian, Willian, Fernandinho and Rat, yet they bought other good players and they are a strong team.
Leverkusen are in-form, they can be a tricky side.
Real Sociedad...I am afraid of them. They are playing very good football, watched them against Lyon and they seem to be 'the Malaga' of last seasons.

Re: Manchester United 2013/2014 Uefa Champions League Thread
no they can, they just don't have to be in the registered squad to play....they don't count toward the max number of players in the squad
for example....larnell cole, probably won't see a second of CL football but why put Januzaj name when he can play without being in the named squad, so u just register as many players over 20 as u can so ur assured of depth and as big a squad as possible

Re: Manchester United 2013/2014 Uefa Champions League Thread
I am going to download the Sociedad vs Shakhtar game. I want to watch our rivals in the UCL group stages.
Shakhtar won with 2-0 but I heard that Sociedad played very well.
I am happy with our performance, considering the fact that we have a new manager after 27 years...
3 points are 3 points!

Very good game. Some quick points.
Evra played his usual performance difference is Fellaini had to cover him which left us exposed on teh counter numerous times. Fellaini was awesome, made some interceptions and at times bullied the opposition. Our defence needs to get rid of this game farts if not we might end up in europa league again. Rvp was good, Rooney was amazing. He's back which means we will win the tilte and push for the cl.

Re: Manchester United 2013/2014 Uefa Champions League Thread
Yes, Fellaini covered Evra's back very well a few times. But Evra is one of our best players in attack and not only. Beside the fact that he is our best player when it comes about crossing, he defends well and his positioning in defense is quite impressive considering his age; the only thing that pulls him down is the speed of his movements and his stamina.
I hope Fellaini will get involved more in the attacking phase in the next matches. We need Fellaini in the midfield against City, then...maybe we could use Clevs at home vs Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.
