Why is it so obsurd that we sign Vergini as a sort of, lets see what happens while still looking for a more reliable option?

I dont think we are even considering it, but I think it gives us some added security.

You could argue we have numbers, but we have no idea what role Bartra will play, Puyol wont play even half the games and Mascherano is the worst defender I seen in the shirt since either Chgynskiy..or perhaps Dehu.

Well Barca said they have the money to spend, so I'm sure they can put 40 million as well as go up to 45 if needed, but the thing is do we really want to spend that much on a defender? Or at least on Luiz?

of course we have money to spend we've only sold this summer other then neymar, which his fund was saved from like almost two years ago.
we just have a dumb board who love taking their time.

we dont have money to buy a quality defender in like 3-4 years???? Then what we have money for....

And why are we so much concerned about the price justification of Luiz. We never bought any player in justified value, neither could we sell as well. Look at our past 5 years buy-sell tactics. which player was bought or sold at justified price. Now we desperately need a CB and Luiz is a proven CB. is it so important to justify his price

Why are we only going after star names recently? Why can't we just buy someone with less star-appeal like Koscielny or Sakho + that Argentine guy and call it a deal?

I couldn't care less for shiny names like Thiago Silva or David Luiz who would require over 40 M to get when we can find something of similar value at a lower price. And I still believe that we should get another CM or at least give dos Santos a chance in the Xavi role.

I subscribe to this. I also don't believe in Bartra, and neither did Tito. I thought he did fine all things considered, but he's never going to be anything more than good. Bringing up CBs from the cantera is a complicated business as they require a lot of experience to get better. Bartra is not getting that right now so he should be loaned out to another la liga side for a season and then assess his performance.

Puyol has gotten injured so many times I doubt he will ever be able to play 3 games in a row anymore.

Given that Vergini would cost 2m tops, there is no reason not to get him for depth.

I doubt Koscielny have a less star appeal....most of us listed him 2nd choice after Silva. but he does not seem to leave.

and for other recommendationss you made, please check Barca's recent transfer history and you will find a handful of defenders that fits your recommendation. some of them even never played for first team and completing the five year deal in loan saga. don understaand why you want to add few more to that series.

You can sign Koscielny from Arsenal for a reasonable price. You've bullied Arsenal too many times for it to be a problem and why would he not want to leave? At the start of the transfer season he said he'll look elsewhere if Arsenal don't convince that they can win a trophy next season. Looking at their signings (or signing?), they'll make 3rd tops in EPL with that squad when you see how the likes of City and Chelsea have strengthened.

Good point. This obsession with buying "stars" is not helping us.

The ideal transfer policy was the one from early Laporta.

We signed young but ready players from second level teams and great ambition, aka Eto'o, Marquez, Toure, Van Bronckhorst, and a long etc.

Reports are that Martino has zeroed down the center back purchase to three options - David Luiz, Daniel Agger and Jan Vertonghen in that order.

My feeling is that if we really wanted these players we should have moved a lot sooner. Chelsea has supposedly priced Luiz at E68.5m. Agger if we wanted we should have chased long ago because with Skrtel likely moving to Napoli this deal will become that much difficult to pull off. Spurs will anyway be very reluctant to sell Vertonghen and we will have Daniel Levy to deal with.

We seem to be in deep soup.

I think no top team (and Arsenal consider themselves one) would let a key player leave in August without any replacements lined up.
