Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
This is how i see it, if we had to miss out on Willian to spurs, resulting in the possible departure of bale I'd be pretty satisfied. Missing out on costa, mky and possibly willian looks very bleak for us, if we dont get top 4 this year, suarez is gone and we have no chance of attracting a big name player. We will be hoping for more purchases like DS and PC, and buying talent more than established players.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
Coutinho and Sturridge will want to leave in 2 years if this shite continuous. We have the best chance of making top 4 in years and we only need 2 signings to put us in pole position a CB and most importantly an attacker. 12 days left and we're circle jerking each other at Melwood afraid to buckle down and get players that we recognized as our primary targets.
Having said that I'm only really pissed that we've missed out Mkh and didn't follow through more with Papa. I didn't want Costa at all and Willian for 30m is a stretch.
The biggest thing that is pissing me off right now is that Spurs might sign Lamela and we're sitting and doing nothing.

Surely there is a Plan B!!!Liverpool were offered the opportunity to match Spurs' bid but declined to do so. (Tony Barrett of the Times)

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
It is always better not to regret later by overpaying too much...so if spurs could afford to pay 5m extra, so be it. if the rumoured price of 35m pound is true, which is even more in euros, the amount of risk would have been too much.Fahim89 wrote:Surely there is a Plan B!!!Liverpool were offered the opportunity to match Spurs' bid but declined to do so. Finally I am happy that Bale will depart

tbh, it would be almost miraculous to finish fourth this season but I have no problems at all if we finish 5th after a close fight. We will have a good solid foundation to build on to after that.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
Man hearing this hurts more. The scouts/Rodgers/committee recognized Willian as the main target left in the window for us and the board didn't come through with the money when presented the chance to match the Spurs offer.Fahim89 wrote:Surely there is a Plan B!!!Liverpool were offered the opportunity to match Spurs' bid but declined to do so. While I'm glad we didn't overpay for Willian because we buy value for money which it's hard to see him being at 35 million pounds, I'm also a little skeptical about about our approach when it'll come to signing someone that will definitely improve us but we cheap out (a la Arsenal Luis Gustavo).
LIke I said already twice before we are not getting top 4 if we go in to the season with the same squad that we have atm.

Then definitely lose Suarez, and be in the same position next summer. Not being to offer CL football to any of our main targets who will choose to go elsewhere. The consequences of p*ssying out on overpaying a little now will hurt us in the future just as much as it will hurt us in the present.HEIL MEIN REDS wrote:tbh, it would be almost miraculous to finish fourth this season but I have no problems at all if we finish 5th after a close fight. @McAgger: now all we can do is hope for something better & be optimistic thinking we have 30m still to spend
I have no idea whatsoever on who we can pursue with that though

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
How about Andriy Yarmolenko for real?
Left winger, under 25, plays for Dynamo Kiov, so it shouldn't be too difficult to buy him and we'd be a step up for him personally as well. Unless he doesn't want to leave his home country.
Scored 11 and assisted 7 in 27 games in the Ukrainian league last season, according to transfermarkt (who value him at £15m, btw).

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
Keep calm.. Spurs have bought a large number of players and they'd require time to gel in. Arsenal are in shambles. Just because we haven't spent much doesn't mean top 4 is out of reach. Heck, even Newcastle finished 5th couple of seasons back with Pardew.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
Calma mate, I am not saying that we will not finish fourth or I dont dream off. Overpaying is also not a problem for me if we are getting at players just in the next bracket of WC. All I am saying is, I dont want deals like Carroll or Downing, due to which we will suffer next 2-3 years.McAgger wrote:Then definitely lose Suarez, and be in the same position next summer. Buying overpaid players is not the only way to reach there. Nevermind, there will be always some players whom we can attract if we are in position like 5th. Signing someone is must priority according to me too, but if we fail to buy someone in this window and still finish 5th we can push further forward from there.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II
The ECHO understands Liverpool have also renewed their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Ilori.
Rodgers was keen to wrap up a deal back in June but talks between the clubs broke down.
The Reds had a bid of around £3million rejected with Sporting demanding more than double that amount.
However, Ilori’s refusal to pen a new contract in Portugal has given Liverpool hope that a compromise fee can now be agreed for the 20-year-old.
The Reds were represented at Sporting’s game against Arouca yesterday and further discussions were held with the young defender’s representatives.
