Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II Empty Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II

Post by RedOranje Mon Jul 08, 2013 11:47 pm

Downing would almost certainly fall under the bold part of his quotes:

Rodgers wrote:“I still think another attacking, creative player, and depending on what goes out of the club - because naturally there might be one or two players who need to go out and play more - then we'll need to fill those areas that have been vacated,” he said.

“Certainly another attacking player will really benefit us, and probably another defender. We'll see how it develops over the course of the next few months.”

So that would seem to leave us with 3 signings to go this summer, unless we've given up on one or more following the failure to secure Mkhitaryan and Papadopoulos.

Probably true but I guess it also includes at least one loan deal.

I'm a little confused with Schalke's problem here. They bought Felipe Santana who left Dortmund (a silverware contender) to find game time. Howedes is an undisputed starter. Same with Matip who had a starting spot pinned last season. How are they going to fit Papa, one of the best young CB's in the world, into this?

I still think he'll be ours by the end of the window.

We'll see. Rodgers is talking about ONE defender (CB/LB?) as well as a CAM, and anything beyond that being related to outgoing moves. Given Skrtel seems to be staying and there is any no current indication of Coates leaving at this moment I'm not sure whether Ilori is the final defensive signing planned. Only time will tell, I guess.

To be honest, that could easily be Skrtel as well.

On a more positive note, rumours are we seem to be talks with West Ham as they'd like Stewart Downing. They played as hard (signing them for around 20-25m both... we spent 55m on them. :S ), but Downing is going so not all is bad. bounce

They'd agreed a fee (7m Euros), but they still haven't spoken to him yet. Hopefully he stalls on them, and we get him. I really wish we'd just offer 14m as a an opening bid for both of Eriksen and Alder and get those 2. That means we have a good 10+ saved from the Mkhitaryan signing and we can get someone else.

I like Papa more than Alder and think we need his style more. But I really would feel uncomfortable going into the season with the only defensive singing being Kolo. So I vote 'yes please' to Alder.

Alder would fit our style more, though.

But I agree. We do need more of a physical CB.

The Guardian reporting that we're holding talks with Suarez's agent, Pere Guardiola, who has travelled to Liverpool yesterday. Maybe there'll be some news this week or maybe they'll keep it all hush hush, but anyway, talks, they are apparently happening.

Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II Empty Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013 Pt.II

Post by RedOranje Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:28 am

Held talks.

James Pearce wrote:Liverpool have held constructive talks with Luis Suarez's agent as speculation over the striker's future rumbles on.

Pere Guardiola flew to Merseyside to meet Reds managing director Ian Ayre at the club's city centre offices yesterday before heading for Melwood to see manager Brendan Rodgers.

The ECHO understands that the dialogue was both “positive” and “amicable”.

Anfield officials have always enjoyed a good working relationship with the agent, who is the brother of new Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, and that remains the case.

There was no backtracking from the agent following Suarez's public declarations in South America that he would jump at the opportunity to quit English football this summer and sign for Real Madrid.

However, no transfer request was submitted by Guardiola – a sign that his Uruguayan client, who is on holiday following the Confederations Cup, is not currently prepared to try to force through a move.

During the discussions both Ayre and Rodgers reiterated the club's position that they want Suarez to stay at Anfield and aren't interested in selling the 26-year-old, who is under contract for a further three years.

Guardiola's trip to Merseyside came just hours after it emerged that Liverpool had rejected a £30million offer for Suarez from Arsenal.

However, the ECHO understands the timing was simply a coincidence with yesterday's talks having already been scheduled before the Gunners made their approach.

Guardiola gave no indication to Liverpool that a move to the Emirates would interest Suarez, who has always insisted that his treatment at the hands of the UK press was his pressing reason for wanting to part company with the Reds.

Sources in London suggest Arsenal are highly unlikely to increase their offer.

Having became frustrated in their attempts to wrap up a £23million deal with Real Madrid for Gonzalo Higuain, Arsene Wenger has been looking at alternative striking options with the Gunners having also contacted Manchester United recently over Wayne Rooney.

However, Arsenal's bid for Suarez was instantly dismissed and they have been left in no doubt that Liverpool aren't interested in selling their prized asset, especially to one of their domestic rivals.

The Reds, who value Suarez at around £45million to £50million, are keen to ensure that the speculation doesn't drag on until the end of the transfer window.

But with Real Madrid yet to firm up their interest and with no guarantees they would prepared to stump up that kind of fee, a resolution to the summer-long saga appears to be some way off.

Suarez is due back from his holidays on July 22 and is expected to be involved in the Melbourne and Bangkok legs of the club's pre-season tour.

The importance of retaining Suarez's services has increased after Liverpool missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, their top summer transfer target.

The attacking midfielder has agreed a four-year deal with Borussia Dortmund who will pay Shakhtar Donetsk around £21million.

Meanwhile, Reds midfielder Jay Spearing is considering interest from Blackburn Rovers.

The Championship outfit have agreed in principle a £1.75million deal for the 24-year-old but they have to sell a player – most likely full-back Martin Olsson – in order to finance the transfer.

As Blackburn look to free up sufficient cash, Spearing is waiting to discover if there are any other offers on the table as he would ideally want to stay in the Premier League.

Goal legacy's number one transfer target in Jovetic is being linked to City.

Steal Ljajic (last year contract) from Fiorentina and be done with it.

Ljajic, Eriksen, Alder and a CB in and we'll be immense next season.

Valencia defender Aly Cissokho

Didn't we discuss Cissokho a couple of years ago? I was in favour of signing him then, but I have no idea how he has done at Valencia.

Also, if we're able to get more than £5m for Downing I'll consider us lucky!

His interview if summarized means he has 2-3 offers to consider & LFC knows about all of them. & he feels a call will change everything or else he will be with LFC on 21st July for Australia tour!
