Wolf of Wall Street opening this year or not?
http://m.cinemablend.com/new/Martin-Scorsese-Wolf-Wall-Street-Might-Open-Year-All-39749.html
So if a movie is longer than 3 hours and/or has a rating of NC-17 by the MPAA it is ineligible for an Oscar?

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Watched the Dredd remake finally on Netflix.
Not bad at all tbh. Karl Urban was fantastically dead pan as Dredd. I wasn't too impressed by Lena Headey as Ma-Ma though...could've done better.
Solid 8/10.

I think the Rock movie will be much better, but I wish at least one of the Hercules was with kevin sorbo.Blue Barrett wrote:That is really weird. Another episode of Olympus Has Fallen + White House Down?
By the way, I feel like Dwayne Johnson is more like Kratos than Hercules.
Spartacus is back, he never died, you can see him at 2:16. Only missing Gannicus and Crixus.

I also watched it recently and I loved it, I didn't think it would be that great.McLewis wrote:Watched the Dredd remake finally on Netflix.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
On "Gravity", it sounds like an interesting concept but I really don't rate Clooney or Bullock. Visuals really don't do it for me if the acting is not up to scratch, so I think I'll wait a while before jumping into this one.
I recently watched a few films, two of which people here have put on their top 10 2000-13 lists...
The Perfect Storm - A film that is what I imagine Gravity will be like - except in space obviously. Anyway, the plot is simple: a boat of fishermen who are eager for a big catch after some recent lean outings go and do just that. Note: this background takes a long, long time to be established. Their ice machine breaks down, meaning that they can't keep the fish fresh for long enough to stay where they are without the fish spoiling. They have a choice about whether to wait for the storm to pass before heading home or to head home through the storm. Predictably, they try their luck against the 1 in a million super-storm. This film becomes a story of a crew, encouraged by their captain, Clooney, enduring challenge after challenge amidst impossible odds and with next to no chance of rescue. Special effects are very good, but the characterisation isn't done well and the story is rather predictable. The only thing keeping you watching is wanting to find out whether the characters survive or not.
No Country for Old Men - Somehow this film remains gripping to the very end whilst revealing very little about the plot and characters, but then once you get to the conclusion, it is quite underwhelming and unsatisfactory, I found. The Tommy Lee Jones character was somewhat confusing too. You expect him to have more action sequences and he is a bit isolated from the rest of this non-linear story. Nevertheless, a good film. As you can tell though, I don't buy into the hype. Javier Bardem is excellent as the bizarre, psychopath hitman Chigurh.
The Departed - A surprisingly balanced film in the sense that the plot isn't overwhelmed by the performances of the all-star cast. I particularly liked that Scorsese wasn't afraid to give the characters realistically cold personalities to match their motivations. What I mean is that the desperation of the characters is really exemplified by their actions. This film isn't as much concerned with giving the audience a happy ending as it is with portraying the brutality and cruel deception that is inherent in the subject matter. A great film.
Chinatown - A masterpiece of neo-noir film. The music is tremendous for a start - if only Baz Luhrmann had learnt a thing or two from watching this about how to do a score for a 1920s film. Nicholson is brilliant in this film about a private eye whose investigation spirals out of his control. What's really great about the direction in this film is that you only learn new information as Nicholson's character does. That really keeps you intrigued in the various characters and the mystery itself. Costumes are also excellent. John Huston and Faye Dunaway are also very good as the main suspects. This is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates the genre.

I can't wait to watch Gravity. Love both Bullock and Clooney and haven't had time in past 4/5 months to go to the theater and with the review the movie has been getting. It looks like a sure bet.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
I watched The Illusionist the other day. Didn't enjoy it that much. Was a bit too slow/lack of action for me at some times. I'd give it a rating of 6.4/10.Raptorgunner wrote:I just watched it, what a great movie. American Gangster
Loved this!!! 3 hours long, but keeps you interested all the way through. Denzel Washington is so tremendous!!! This will definitely make my list of favourite movies since 2000. Somewhere ahead of The Departed.
My rating: 8.3/10

Watching Gravity again for the 2nd time, got me to realize that the writing isn't really that great it's all about the visuals in this and Bullock's acting
