Two New Trailers for GRAVITY: "Drifting" and "I’ve Got You"

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 15 8z2x6w

Following the Gravity trailer "Detached", Warner Bros. has released the last two of the three new trailers, "Drfiting" and "I’ve Got You".  Although director Alfonso Cuaron’s has shown the power of the long take in the previous segments, "I’ve Got You" shows that the cuts can be just as powerful.  All three segments highlight the terror of being adrift in space, and do so in a way we’ve rarely seen before (the only other moment that comes to mind is when HAL tries to cut Poole loose in 2001: A Space Odyssey).  The question is if the sound effects that are in this trailer will be used in the final cut.  As Cuaron reminded the audience in Hall H at Comic-Con, there’s no sound in space. The film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.  Gravity opens in 3D on October 4th.

Synopsis: Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

2nd Trailer for ROMEO AND JULIET Starring Hailee Steinfeld

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 15 Romeo-and-Juliet-0726-Dragonlord

Relativity Media has released a new trailer for director Carlo Carlei’s Shakespeare adaptation Romeo & Juliet. Adapted by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, this version doesn’t seem to be taking too many liberties with the source material, as the original setting, characters, and dialogue are all maintained and there are no drag queens to be found. The last big screen adaptation is arguably Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet which introduced Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the lovers.

This trailer appears to be aimed squarely at young ‘uns who might be unfamiliar with the material, as the particulars of the story are laid out plainly. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Douglas Booth, Paul Giamatti, Ed Westwick, Damian Lewis, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Natascha McElhone, Christian Cooke, Lesley Manville, and Stellan Skarsgard. Romeo & Juliet opens on October 11th.

First Two Clips from Neill Blomkamp's Sci-fi Action ELYSIUM

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 15 Elysium-Heist-Clip-Dragonlord

Sony Pictures has released the first two clips from director Neill Blomkamp’s new sci-fi film Elysium. For those unfamiliar, the story takes place in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Matt Damon plays a desperate man who must reach Elysium in order to find a cure that will save his life. In the first clip, we see Damon’s character hashing out the particulars of his parole with a robot, because the only thing that could make government-run offices like the DMV worse is if they were run solely by automated systems.

The second clip gives us a glimpse into the gritty, energetic action that the director is well known for. Damon squares off against a robot owned by William Fichtner, who orders Damon "killed." However, the geared-up Damon has got some interesting firepower at his side and dispenses with the 'bot after a quick malfunction correction. It's chock full of Blomkamp's signature style. The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Wagner Moura and Diego Luna. Elysium opens on August 9th.

Watch Three New Clips from Jeff Wadlow's KICK-ASS 2

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 15 Kick-Ass-2-Sparring-Dragonlord

Universal has released three new clips from Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2. The first clip features Aaron Johnson asking Chloe Moretz's Hit-Girl to partner up and to train him. The third clip highlights Hit-Girl hopping on her Ducati bike and pounds on the gas to try to get home before her guardian Marcus does. The fourth clip features Clark Duke's alter-ego Battle-Guy running through his origin story to Justice Forever, but Donald Faison and Jim Carrey get a punchline or two in as well.

Kick-Ass 2 finds Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace Moretz’s Hit Girl inspiring a new wave of masked superheroes that join in their fight against evil. On the flipside, Christopher Mintz-Plasse has now become a supervillain named The Mother F---er and is assembling his own masked evil league. Also starring Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jim Carrey, John Leguizamo, Lindy Booth, Morris Chestnut, Robert Emms and Olga Kurkulina, Kick-Ass 2 opens August 16th.

First Trailer for Ben Stiller’s THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 15 34fcox2

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Ben Stiller‘s next directorial effort, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. In the remake of the 1947 film, Stiller stars as the eponymous LIFE Magazine proofreader who, incapable of standing up for himself in the real world, retreats to a fantasy where he becomes his poised, confident opposite. The film also stars Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opens December 25th.

Trailers these days tend to follow a fairly predictable path, complete with dubstep and “BWAAAM” moments that aim to highlight a particularly exciting and/or expensive sequence. This trailer for Walter Mitty, however, is brilliantly refreshing, as it attempts to capture the mood and tone of the film with a simple (and haunting) Of Monsters and Men song and minimal dialogue. It really looks like Stiller has crafted something special here, and this is exactly the kind of film the audience is eager to see following a summer filled with studio blockbusters.

Some of the best cinematography I've seen in a film in a long while.

Actually gets me thinking, what is everyone's favorite movie in terms of cinematography?

For me Road to Perdition is the perfect movie in terms of cinematography.

Again good to knwo what others like and find time to watch some more, and discover some movies I otherwise wouldnt know about Smile

Saw the Great Gatsby. It was all beautiful, good filming and performances , but the story and plot quite disappointing. Mt thoughts are like the critic opinions. I like Leo as usual, but that lead actress and the one as her husband was also great.

Killing Season. This movie is horrible lol. The most cliched film ever and John Travolta's 'Serbian' accent is hilarious. Sounds Russian lol.

Movie had the premise to be a quality film, it just lacked the execution to deliver.

:bow: I liked everything about this movie. The acting by Matthew MacConaughey and the two child actors were perfect. MM deserves more praise than he used to be getting. I never noticed his talent until now. As for the young actor who played Ellis, I can see him going far. He has got PHENOMINAL talent. I loved the plot, the soundtrack. The movie was directed by the same guy who directed 'Take Shelter' which i loved and I am going to watch his first movie which is just as good.
8/10

Glengarry Glenn Ross:
An entirely dialogue driven movie which shows us two days in the life of four workers in a real-estate company. The casting is 10/10 with Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris aaaaaand Alec Balfwin. Each of them gives their best performance and it is not surprising that this movie is in a number of 'top-movies' lists.

Have anybody seen 'The Wolverine'?

What do you think? In my opinion 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' was far better, yet the last movie was quite entertaining at the beggining, but turned out to be another predictable action-adventure fantasy movie.

I heard from a friend that 'Pacific Rim' is a must see. What's your opinion?

PacRim's been discussed in the previous couple of pages, so have a look back for information there.

I like The Wolverine more than it's predecessor but that's at least partially because Origins was pretty shambolic, in my opinion. The newer movie was more true to the actual story and the direction and writing were much tighter and well constructed. I did feel that it was still lacking a bit though. While it was a solid entertaining movie, it's not one that was particularly memorable.

I watched Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven few hours ago, and I gotta say its one of the best western movies out there. Great performances from Eastwood and Gene Hackman.

Mud
Wow man! This movie might be the best I've watched so far from this year.
It is a very lovely story of love and all its shit. Matthew McCounaghy is great. He has really grown over the years. A good established (and maybe now could be said blockbuster movie) actor. As someone said earlier, the two boys' performances were also very good. A must watch. It's directed by Jeff Nichols (from Take Shelter, which is one of the most underrated/underhyped movies in recent years). So yeah this Nichols guy has got something on him.
My rating: 7.7/10

Mystic River
I thought Unforgiven was Clint Eastwood's best movie. But this! Man this movie is just great!!!

The suspense and mystery in it is like unbelievable. And the acting is top notch. Sean Penn stole the movie in this one. If you haven't watched it yet, I say you should make plans to see it ASAP. Have to say it's in my top 20 of favourite movies of all time.

Unforgiven is one of my favourite Clint Eastwood films where he both stars & directs, haven't seen Mystic River yet.

Mud sounds interesting, but I have to say that McCounaghy's rep was so badly damaged by all those crappy romcom's he did, I'm not sure I can bring myself to see it!Razz

Watched a few foreign films recently...

A Hijacking
This is a Danish film from 2012. The story is about a Danish company's ship that is hijacked with 7 crew members on board. The hijackers are Somalian pirates. Almost the whole of the film is about the company's board and the pirates trying to negotiate an amount for the safe return of the members on board. So if you rather prefer action-packed films, this one is not for you. It is quite a good thriller though, with brilliant built-up tension right up until the end.
My rating: 6.9/10

The Lives of Others
This is a German film from 2006. It is about a group who investigate the unknown suspect(s) who wrote a controversial book. This film is also very intense. And it is all about conspiracy.
My rating: 7/10

Incendies
This is a French film from 2010. It is about twins who go in search of their older brother that they didn't know of. They look up their mother's past as a start to the search. And as they look deeper and go further into her past the story just gets darker and more intense. If the other two above-mentioned films are intense, then this one is beyond that. It has a scary twist at the end.
My rating: 7.4/10

~~~~~~~
I'm bored of reading subtitles now. I'll be watching Trance, The Conjuring, Man of Steel and The Great Gatsby in the coming days, and give my feedback.
del Toro fan interview:
1. If you were a Jaeger pilot, which Jaeger would you choose and who would you want as your co-pilot? - Question By Gabriëlle
Del Toro: CHERNO ALPHA and I would want my wife or Ron Perlman as co-pilot.  They both know all my weaknesses and flaws.
2. Did you keep anything as a souvenir from the shoot or if you didn’t, what would you want to keep? - Question By Libertinem
Del Toro: I kept several things:  concept models, concept paintings, drawings, props- like Mako’s red shoe, one of Hannibal’s shoes, the “spine” connective hardware, a Russian helmet etc
3. What, for you, was the best or most memorable off-screen moment while you were working on the film? - Question By Star
Del Toro: The WHOLE shoot was like that. This is the film I have enjoyed the most. I was full of joy and working hard!
4. So many reviews and commentaries have pointed out how Pacific Rim sparks a Saturday morning cartoon-flavored glee. Do any of you have favorite childhood shows, stories, or movies that this experience reminded you of? - Question By ThisNewDevilry
Del Toro: Of course! That was the WHOLE point of the film-  to be a time machine for those that want to go back to that time- I did- and to go back to my Tetsujin-28-Go days or my Ultra days (Ultraman or Ultraseven) or Space Giants or many many others!  I am grateful for the adults that jumped in and were able to go back in time with it but I am even happier about the kids that saw it.  This film and the Hellboy films are meant for new generations of monster / mecha fans and not meant to be nostalgia exercises.
5. What do you think it is about Pacific Rim that made it gain such a dedicated fanbase in such a short amount of time, instead of simply fading away like so many other blockbusters do after their initial release? - Question By nerdy-newton
Del Toro: The repeat viewing factor has been insane. I have never- and I mean, never- received so many emails and notes and phone calls from people just saying how much they loved it and how they had seen it up to 6 times the first weekend. Outside of the USA is the same thing- people that connect with it go over and over again.
6. Is there anything that just didn’t make it into the movie that you really wish had been there? Any little bit of backstory or piece of dialogue or visual or anything like that?
Del Toro: I removed about 45 minutes of story / plot. I wanted to keep the film under 2 hours if possible. As it is, it sits at roughly 2:02 plus credits. But everything we removed was because I wanted it gone or because it slowed down the film. Some scenes will make it as deleted scenes in the disc but not many.
7. Was there one scene that, when you watch the movie, makes you especially happy? A scene that you were thrilled to see make it to the big screen?
Del Toro: The entire first reel, the entire battle for Hong Kong and Mako’s drift back to her childhood.
8. I don’t know if you want to play favorites, but I am sure the fandom would like to know! Do you have a favorite Jaeger, and a favorite Kaiju?
Del Toro: Cherno and Leatherback- both are clumsy and heavy and adorable.
9. Pacific Rim is an incredible homage to the Kaiju movies that have come before it. Was there one scene in particular that was a tribute to those films?
Del Toro: Obliquely, the opening scene evokes my memory of seeing War of the Gargantuans. BUt I try to honor Tsuburaya, Honda, Narita, Nakajima, Go Nagai- without quoting them. Just evoking the spirit of fun and faith they had in their craft.
10. This is not a question so much as it is a thank you, from all of the fans of Pacific Rim, for giving us something new and original to immerse ourselves in. It means so much to this younger generation of movie-goers to have something not only original, but characters and a world that we can see ourselves in. Thank you again!
Del Toro: It was entirely my pleasure. In a world of complex, neurotic hatred I wanted to create something sincere and simple with a technically complex film.  I wanted to tell a tale of heroism and hope and trust that kids could see and dream of.  Adventure films were always inspirational for me growing up.  I love Pacific Rim with all my heart and I thank you all for loving it back.
