BarrileteCosmico wrote:In my opinion I would do it the combined way. Look at the chapter list and catch up on the ADWD that you have missed out on. While I read the books 4 years ago I wish I could've done it this way. Believe me you'll get tired of some of the characters that are overrepresented in both books.Dante wrote:I am reading A Feast For Crows these days. Few days ago Goodbrain suggested that i should just read them in order and i'am following his advice at the moment. What's your opinion ?
Should i read them in order or read this version you speak of ? I was especialy concerned about something Goodbrain said , that if i did this , i would soon know a lot about some characters and it would ruin the suspence.
Something last , i've progressed a bit in AFFC , must have read 10 chapters so far , could be 11 iirc. Is it worth it/possible to read this version instead now ?
I've asked around at the westeros forum, and while I won't post a link as there might be spoilers in the rest of the thread or links, the majority of the people that have read it both ways like the combined way more.
Some posts:Taken as seperate entities I found AFFC and ADWD to be tiresome and meandering, once combined in this fashion they moved along at a much crisper pace. I would recommend it.I used the Boiled Leather version. And for me is far far far better than the original GRRM's.I used the Boiled Leather version. And for me is far far far better than the original GRRM's.I can see how it might ruin the suspense, but from what people have said it actually works better dramatically to have Cercei spend an episode bitching about Tyirion only to have Tyrion show up at the next chapter, rather than the next book. And there are many instances like this. The timing might not be perfect, but thematically and dramatically I think it would work better.I used the Boiled Leather reading order on my last re-read. It improves the narrative enormously in my opinion. The world building of AFFC feels much less of a drag. That said, even read together, this "middle act" of ASOIAF suffers from the lack of a real climax
Thanks for bothering BC . Much appreciated . I gave it a try and it was well worth it , even though i didn't have any issues with reading only AFFC tbh.. although my original notion was to read them combined and i agree it does make a difference .
I am currently on ADWD chapter 4 . It has been refreshing so far .

Re: Game of Thrones - Part 2
Another thing to keep in mind is that GRRM never intended book 4 to be separated like that. It became too big and he thought he would finish up within a year, so he decided to publish as he did. When reading it in this fashion, you're reading it the way GRRM originally intended.

The original intent was that book 4+5 were actually 1 book, but it was too much for 1 book and so he divided it into 2 parts

To the book readers
Is the next book going to be the last? or do you guys think it will carry on for much longer?

Re: Game of Thrones - Part 2
There are 7 books planned in the series, with 5 of those being published, but many fans are skeptical that he will actually be able to finish in 7 and think there will be 8.

But RG it takes GRRM 3+ years to write each book, on average. He's obese and old. And all men must die. The sooner he wraps it up, the better.

She's well-versed and trained in tracking animals and other prey through the woods of the north... you don't think she could track a man on a horse through open plains?

Re: Game of Thrones - Part 2
Yeah as wel as being able to track, if you think about it John Snow wasn't really trying to escape any more. He'd dealt with the whole group minus her and the bloke with the beard (His name escapes me)
He was just making his way back, and she tracked him down. Tried to kill him

I think if she'd really wanted to kill him she certainly could have put an arrow in his temple and/or through a vital spot in his chest.

She is supposed to have quite a few other wildlings accompanying her - all of whom would also be looking for Jon.
Didn't particularly like the finale - though some parts were interesting (Shay
s rejection of Varys' offer and their entire conversation) or really well done (Arya killing the Frey man). I believe the last two seasons have ended with Dany accruing some sort of power - so that final moment was uncharacteristically telegraphed for GOT.
Overall, they had to get this season out of the way for the epic spectacle that will be nect season

Re: Game of Thrones - Part 2
She was clearly torn between killing him or not,
but the fact is she did put 3 arrows in him, 2 of which were in the upper body. Her aim is either god-like or she was trying to kill him. Even though she didn't want to.
Could easily have been a kill.
