Goalkeepers = horrendous. I think they've made the keepers bad to make up for how poor shooting is. Overall, the game is balanced in that regard but far from being a simulation.

Switching system = slow and needs more work. Why can't they do it like FIFA i.e. by switching with Right Analogue Stick alone and none of that arrow bullshit?

There obviously a ton of other nuisances but those I can live with them...for now - because the rest of the game is such a great experience.

It takes an age for the cursor to switch, and you don't have much control over where the cursor goes. So when I wanted to switch to a defender and back off and cover runs, I couldn't; by the time I finally got the cursor where I wanted it, the opposition were away on goal.

I also found that the opposition could get players behind your midfield, but your midfield just wouldn't react, so you have to manually get your midfield back to cover and get some sort of shape. Slide tackling is also useless.

It's all proving to be one hurdle too far for me.

(On another note, I'm very glad I decided to rent this game and not buy it outright)

Great write-up. Sums of most of my annoyances with PES 2014. Looking at the bright side, Konami can solve some of these issues by patching the game.

It's better than both Fifa 13 and Pes 2013. The movement and the way they pass it's much more real than the last year's versions. I'm still waiting for Fifa 14, but it's going to be hard to beat this.

From what I read, the winning 11 one sounds better. The PESworld is done by a fellow Newcastle fan of yours, but he seems to have done this first version very EPL centered. Done kit work and emblems for it but little more.

The winning11 got German league and various other stuff.

Both are start up files so obviously you dont expect everything done but right now..

I already have the winning eleven one.... its nowhere near complete kit wise at the moment.

They have done everything PL wise up till Man Utd.... but after that they haven't been touched yet. ( although they did say a update to it would be released this evening with rest of PL teams completely done)

Faces haven't been edited either.... all the transfers and emblems are done across the board but the kits are not complete outside the PL teams i mentioned.

Bundesliga teams, emblems and players are there but kits are not done yet.

Anyway will see what this PES World file does when its actually live because its still being uploaded apparently...

Ok its basically what you said.... PL teams are a lot better done than on Winning Eleven file.

Everything from emblems, kits, formations etc etc is a lot better done, even some of the faces are done better.

But Bundesliga isn't as done yet.... they have done Dortmund's kit but apart from players that are already in the game due to being starts for national team a lot of the players are left with fake names and a lot of Bundesliga teams haven't been done yet.

For example the only players there for Dortmund... are Langerak, Hummels, Sokratis, Piszcek, Schmelzer, Gundogan, Sahin, Mkhitaryan, Kuba, Reus and Lewandowski.

Oh well it will do me for now.

Fix three things and this game will be able to compete with FIFA:

Fix the switching system, it's sluggish, slow and frustrating to say the least.
Remove players on rails. It is very annoying having to super cancel most of those stupid moves.
Improve AI awareness. Players not reacting to loose balls because the code determines which two players are to compete for the ball (a lot of time it locks to an irrelevant player with the rest of players acting passive)

On a less important note but also vital:
Bring stadium creator tool/editor. Maybe those modders can do something.
Fix up shooting and goalkeepers.
vs COM isn't really varied, I feel all teams play the same way vs me, often resulting in similar goals. The strength of PES was that sense of randomness and every goal you score feeling new. Multiplayer it is a different animal though, as every player plays different.

I just had 22 shots on target against him and drew 1-1 :facepalm:

Also COM is varied when you play on higher difficulties, at least i find that to be the case.

I think they need to rethink the dribbling long term.

Doing trick moves shouldnt involve so many different buttons/combinations.

I dont feel like I have enough control over what im doing. Yes, you could argue I need to practice it more but just looking at all the different combinations for each skill is off putting.

I am sure they wont want it to become an unrealistic trick show, I dont want that either, but that should be on you.

Other games which comes to mind, like the NBA games, its a better balance. The players who shouldnt be able to pull of moves simply cant and the ones who can you can put moves together with relative ease because of the simplicity of the controls.

Danyjr, can you elaborate on "Remove players on rails"?

Dani i think there's two sides to that.... dribbling is good when you actually master it i have pulled off some great stuff and i'd argue that practice makes perfect ( i still say i'm not very good at it either)

But its too complex for the average user really, the controls itself need to be simple but allow for the depth to make the gameplay entertaining to the vets.

I'm really enjoying at the moment since getting all the right kits for PL so i can do the league but there are some issues.

My biggest gripe at the moment is how slow the players react to a loose ball and also how slow the GK moves when you press triangle to bring him out its almost not worth it.

Yeah I think thats a fair explanation of it.

I fully admit I need to put in more practice hours to pull of moves. But it does bother me that I am unable to to pull of a move choice at relative will.

In the NBA game (sorry to harp on that game again but its a good comparison I think) you start off learning the basics because they are pretty simple, but once you put in practice you get to pull stuff off not only at will, but you can put moves together.

Right now, im struggling just doing moves, let alone doing them at will...forget about different moves together.

Nah i get ya, i played quite a lot of 2K over the summer.

And quite frankly Football games could learn a lot from its general mechanics and presentation.

Well I keep shooting straight at them and they manage to let goals in.

Really? I personally love the dribbling and don't find it difficult to perform at all (pulling it off is another matter though - timing is very important especially if you're used to FIFA). Are you using Right Analogue Stick to dribble?

The only thing about dribbling that pisses me off is that even low ass players can do rainbow flicks and such, which is very unrealistic.

I mean when players run on a specific automated path and you can't do anything to move them outside that 'rail'. For example I get this a lot especially when I got a fullback chasing down an opposition winger into open space. Your fullback just chases the opposition's path (no matter which direction you pull the stick) as opposed to making a more angled run towards inside to prevent the player from crossing. It just doesn't give you that freedom to choose wherever you want to go. Konami even admit to it, hence their inclusion of super cancel (RB+RT on default I think).

While we are at it I don't find player response of a just-selected player pleasing. Now I'm all for the inclusion of inertia, but when the AI is moving my players in questionable directions and I select the player to direct him towards the 'right' direction, it's takes a long time for all of that to happen (due to poor switching and inertia). I think they code should let newly selected players to bypass inertia for a second. I know it sounds weird but it really would help getting rid of some of the nuisances I have to deal with.

Honestly i'm not having problems with goalkeepers at the moment but i suppose i could the more i play ( apart from how slow they are at coming out anyway)

Its shooting i'm having issues with at the moment, i just feel that my shots lack control and half the time don't really go where i want.

That could change with more practice i suppose and maybe i should try the advanced shooting and see if it helps.
