Bild: Hummels will sign for Barca

According to Bild, via AS, Barcelona are in advanced talks with Dortmund and Hummels will sign for barca for the next couple of seasons.

We need someone but preferrably not Hummels. Can't stand two slow centrebacks playing a high defensive line.
Sakho, Dede, Botia, Barta, Ogbonna, Kosc would be all better options imo.

Pique and Puyol have done alright playing in a highline imo and they're not known for being the quickest. However with Barca being poor defensively this season, they might just want someone who's quicker, good on the ball etc and fits the CB role.

Kompany, Lescott, Dzeko, Yaya and Javi Garcia all aerial threats, all would probably start in a game vs us...at least 4 of them.

We have to do zone just so we dont end up matching up one of those with someone like Alves and moving right into the middle of the box.

Hummels and Pique in the middle of the zone, Busquets in there too. Alves at the back and probably Alba at the front...still going to get creamed at the front or back by anyone of thosee 5 and at least once in 3 attemps vs Busquets or Pique.

Swap City with 8 out of 10 teams and its the same story.

I think sometimes Barca fans get too hung up on needing transfers to be perfect. I think knowing our management, we could do worse. Remember last summer when Vertonghen was basically begging us to sign him and we turned a cold shoulder? Most at the Barca section said they didn't want him, but I'm sure that if we actually did not many would've minded to keep him and some have even regretted not signing him when we had a chance.

Sure, but if the question you want Vertoghen or nothing...they would of said Vertoghen..the only reason I think any fans said no to Vertoghen was with the assumption we would get someone else.

The thing is I see it as more like this "You can sign either this player who is not a perfect fit but is a good player in his own right... or we can sign this midfielder from arsenal and play him at CB"

To me the choice is clear. I just have no faith in the mgmt.

Dear god, you all shocked me there for a second. I just read the original article in Bild, here's the pointers:

- NO, I repeat: NO advanced talks with Dortmund.
- Barca have internally declared Hummels a transfer target, this is true
- Dortmund have released a statement they're planning with Hummels in the squad "for the long term"
- Watzke said they'd rather qualify for the CL with Hummels, than sell and miss out on revenue the size of his transfer value
- No official contacts between Dortmund and Barca as of yet
- Even the trigger-happy Bild journalists think this is highly unlikely to happen

good...why have two similar palyers in the CB anyway.

yea it's not even close, thanks to dodgy translation work done by foreign journalists once more. with all the shit bild is posting each day, translations really have to be accurate otherwise u would tend to think that north korea is starting WW3 each minute.

other than that, i disagree with the common assumption (since most people don't watch hummels constantly) that he is some kind of playmaking CB only. his defending is flawless 90% of the time. he can read the game like no other defender in germany and his tackling is resolute. further, he isn't speedy gonzales but he's just above the average speed of a good CB i'd say.

the only bad thing about him are his enormous ego and occassional complacency which lead him to think that his attendance is enough to stop attacks. other than that he's got all the tools to be one of the very best CBs, which he is already close to, if not THE best. he would have to accept a subordinate role at barcelona and that should give him more of an incentive to work on his weaknesses.

Noone said he cant defend or isnt a good defender, simply he doesnt fit and he doesnt.

Two great defenders dont always fit together if all the other factors dont work.

And I dont think anyone has to watch Dortmund week in, week out to see he is not very quick.

They're very often the first source. But they're also wrong about half the time, which might be down to their tendency to make shit up.

Even though, the Bild article was then even mistranslated, so that's how you get the really bullshit news.

they have the most informed editors when it comes to sports. but in this case the translation is just wrong. they actually said that some director or management dude at barca has the task to get hummels at the end of the season and hummel's father said that his son always has an eye open for such clubs but he won't necessarily switch. hummels himself said a few days ago that he wants dortmund to receive a chunk of money for him if he is to leave.
